Is anime a lonely hobby?

No more than watching TV or movies. You can watch TV and movies with friends the same as you can watch anime. If you don't have any friends that like anime, it's really really easy to 'convert' them. Find out what they like, and make them watch an anime. If they like action, show them some of the best action animes, like Hellsing or Trigun. If they like sci-fi, have them watch Cowboy Bebop. Whatever they're into, there's most likely an genre for them.
I believe that anyone slightly open-minded and caring for a good story (anyone who reads novels, likes RPG's, or loves movies) can learn to love anime.

If you spend a lot of your free time (or even when you are suppose to be busy) watching Anime, I'd say that's quite lonely, but as long as you enjoy it. But that goes for TV as well. I have a friend who all she does is download whichever Anime she can and then she watches it all day. It's quite sad. She quit Uni and now just stays at home.

I don't think so
if we can fell about our feeling, we can enjoy it
like another hobby >.<

I guess I'd say it's "both"...
Let's take myself as example here,
For the lonely part, I always watch animes alone in my room with my laptop. Never had anyone to watch with me. I still watch even though I'm eating. So it's quite lonely if I look at it as I was alone sitting and watching, even eating i was still eating all alone by myself. I don't really have people in real life to talk about animes. I can only make talk and discuss on the net and forums. More importantly, animes tend to end with touching moments. I felt something touching and moving me but I had no one to share that feeling with anyone or to express someone it was beautiful and tearful.
For the opposite part, animes are fun, they make me smile and laugh although I'd have been stressed from college and assignments. On the internet, I see lots of anime fans and we can't forget about fun dubs and subs as well. Nowadays, anime community is growing so I know I'm not alone. My friends from college wouldn't probably talk so much about animes but I can always give my time to discuss about them online.

I have a few friends that enjoy watching anime, we have a club in my high school that watches anime the whole time, and even at the college i'm attending. one of my friends got me into anime and he's extremely addicted, which rubbed off onto me. i don't feel lonely. my parents may hate it but i don't really care what they think.

I don't think it's a lonely activity at all. Many of my dorm friends like to sit around and watch anime together and we find it quite enjoyable, even if some aren't so accustomed to the subjects presented in the shows.
Once upon a time I preferred to watch shows while it they were broadcasting (rather than on dvd) because it made me feel more lively and it gave a feeling that I was not alone. Now, I actually like to watch anime alone because it makes me feel like I am the only person in the world, but I do not feel lonely at all.

Yeah, I always get the sense that there's this weird kind of taboo surrounding stuff like anime, at least where I live, or it could just be my imagination. (Probably not.) Anyway, hardly any of my friends are anime nerds and most don't even know how much of an anime nerd I am in the first place. So it's what you might call a 'lonely hobby' but I never feel particularly sad about it. >_>
No is not, WHO SAID SO? anime is something that we who love anime and watch them, i gotta says is not lonely at all? why because i have friends that love anime and yes we share all those hobbies like that at my school
so NO is not lonely one bit

Somewhat but in college, there is bound to be someone else interested in Anime.
If anime is a lonely hobby then what about TV , cycling ,jogging ,etc? The point is that whether you want to interact with others during your hobby. For example you can watch TV alone or with your families and friends(laughter and fun) and similar for cycling, jogging.Though it is true that people tend to watch anime alone doesn't mean that it is lonely activity. The fact that we are all here on this forum typing is the best prove that anime can also draw people together!
