Is anime a lonely hobby?
3 months 1 day ago
My school has a pretty big anime club so I don't exactly feel lonely. But in the sense of how we view anime and manga, then its lonely. I'm more of a person who watches and reads anime as a hobby rather they do it as a sort of passion. My tastes in anime and manga are also different from others (or so it seems) because I've been watching anime and manga for many many years whereas most people who are into it at my school has been into it for only a few years. So yeah, it does get lonely at times :\

I would 't say that I'm lonely because of anime but I have found many people that I never thought would be into something like this before until I got to college. I have even found some professors on campus that are into anime. And naturally I still have my friends who I've known for years who still share this hobby. I do think it kind of sucks sometimes because I meet some people who I think just think that anime is just me acting like a little kid because Im watching cartoons. But anymore I just say screw it and do what ever the hell I want so it doesn't really bother me anymore.

I can't really say that I've felt alone from watching anime. I didn't care if anyone liked it or not. I remember in middle school when dragonball z became popular. It's like no one would be quiet about it. I had a select few friends that I enjoyed talking about it with. Then high school came along, and I kind of fell out of it because nothing caught my interest really.
Now in college, I'm going to an art school, and it's popular with a ton of people in my major. Whether it be regular, hentai, whatever, there were people that liked it. My girlfriend and I just finished watching Wolf's Rain together. She had never been anime enthusiast but gave it a try which is nice.
Back to my original point. I honestly didn't mind if I was the only one or not who liked it. It's something that kept ME entertained. To each their own really.

In a way it is, especially depending on a social status or in what job you work. I mean, still in Western society, Anime or animation in general has the image of Cartoons for kids. It would be embarassing for a business man to admit he likes Japanese Anime during a meeting or in a job interview for a high position... I have that feeling...
It's only lonely if you hang around people who pretend not to like it. Maybe I can only speak for myself, but just about all of my friends like Anime to at least some degree. Plus, I got all the happy internet people who like it :D
Hmm maybe a little yes, because in my country aren't anime and also manga much popular yet. I watch above all alone, but sometimes with aniki:) I'm happy that I at least can find fans on internet.
Well, actualy it seem to me that I'm lucky, because several years ago we created a group of 30 anime-fans able to meet every week, watch anime together, organise festivals and so on, and so on... Now this group expanded up to 500 fans. Yes, of course, they divided themselves into sub-groups and I personally know the same 30-40 people, but the thing I really love is our anime-cinema club every saturday from 1pm till 4 pm. Maybe I`m just about postgraduation and during 4 years of my presence in local anime-club I made really good friends, but I do no think that being anime fan is the same as being lonely.

I don't think anyone should feel embarrassed if they do admit that. An employer should only judge you based on your qualifications, not your personal interests. Besides, that shouldn't even be something that comes up in an interview (unless ya know, if it's actually for something anime/manga related =P)

For me, anime is a lonely hobby. Because none of my friends watch anime. But,I can understand what they are thinking, because the first time my relative lend me her anime DVD, the first things come into my mind is “cartoon=childishly” …
Of course, this statement is Wrong after I watching it. Anime is interesting. I feel very lonely when I cannot share my opinion about the anime that I like, such as Code Geass, Hitman Reborn etc with anybody...because they don't know those things at all... Anyway, I think the most important things is you like anime, that all about.Anime is a lonely hobby. But no anime is more lonely.:)

Anime can be a lonely hobby if you don't know anyone around you who watches it. But if you do, it can be a blast talking about the latest episodes or cool moments in anime you've seen.

I feel the same way! I have almost no friends who like anime. That's why over the past couple of years I've kind of drifted away from it all. But I do like to draw/watch anime from time to time. It's fun and takes my mind off of things.
Well sometimes I feel lonely with this hobby... even though I have lots of friends who like anime in my campus... this lonely is about the social relation to the other group outside anime... I mean, I'm kinda having difficulties talking to other person who doesn't really like anime since there's no topic to discuss beside anime... T-T
so maybe just asking around "how are you.?" and "how's your study?" and something like that...
right now... I'm trying to make a better relation with the other people by participating on some campus events and talk more to the "usual people" (I mean, people who are don't really like anime..). I hope I can have more friends ^^ because I realized this life isn't just all about anime... ^^
