Yes it is, at least for me...
I only have a very good friend who made me enter to the anime world, we are not otakus but look to the anime in a different way. Of course there are groups of anime fans in my country, he is involved with them but I'm very little, I have friends there but I'm not in constant contact with them.
In school I almost don't talk anything about anime, and if I do people don't understand at all or thing it is weird and watching anime helps nothing...

Not to me. I have other interests beside anime, and manga, both of which I‘m not super into. There’s only a few people who like anime in my circle of friends. Like, one. Maybe two, and we don’t talk about it often. I sure wouldn’t mind meeting some more people who are into it provided they don’t conform to the otaku stereotype.
I have a friend who is anime obsessed like me
so it's not lonely for me I can always share something with her XD
and anime/manga is quite popular here and have other friends who likes to read mangas

I always felt it was lonely hobby. No one I know really likes anime besides like 2 people. Well I hardly have any friends either. Don't really remember the last time I've talked to anyone about anime. I guess it is a perfect match. I'm lonely, anime is a lonely interest, it just works out.
It is for me.
I'm out of High School, but don't attend a University. I don't meet anyone who shares my interest in anime. Occasionally someone at work will be into it, but they certainly aren't into it as much as I am.

Well it can get pretty lonely when you don't have anyone to talk to about it and no one around you understands what your talking about anyway if you even try to. Fortunately I have a few friends that know a little something about anime and its always nice to meet someone who knows how to have an anime discussion with you :P

Depend on what situation. I like animes but I only have 1 friend likes anime. I only can share animes with 1 person.I don't feel happy if i can share with 1 person. ......If i have many friends like animes, anime won't be an alone hobby.

Aside from having other fans you can talk to online, does being an anime fan sometimes feel a little lonely? Anime seems to be a very unpopular hobby among many people who aren't fans, and I was wondering how you guys felt about that.
I guess being a fan, it can get pretty lonely. I don't have friends that are fans, so it's impossible for me to talk them about the latest anime I'm watching (because to them, all anime is weird).
Do you not consider fellow fans friends? Is friendship limited only to people you have met in person, been out with, work with or went to school with?
I don't think anime is a lonely hobby. I have plenty of friends that share my anime interests - some are hard-core otaku type fans, others just regular watchers of anime. I can easily say that I was friends with some of them before I met them. Some of these friends were also converts... they were introduced to the concept of anime and took up on it.
I'm sure you'll come across some nice friends that will share your anime interests too.

Well, I felt like you, but somehow whem I did came to some cons, I felt real hepiness. XD There was TONS of anime loving people.
And also in school, I have my best friend that's same addict as me (but somehow she's not into BL as I am XD). And I have 3 more anime addict friends. It's because we all started watching anime at same time. ^^

I have many friends who are into anime
There are also stereotypes about anime among those who have no clue though I luckily don't meet those in my area

lol that's a bit of a paradox, there is no such thing as a hobby that everyone is into. It only feels lonely cause you either watch anime by yourself or you like to look up anime alot and feel like your the only one that does that. Believe me im sure alot more people are into anime in your highschool than you think, you just don't have to be shy about it. I remember back as a freshman in highschool someone had this folder with the clear plastics on the front so you can put whatever crap you want on it as display and someone had a Gundam Wing picture on it, lol I got curious and it turned out she liked anime alot more as well.
There are people in highschool that are usually to embarrassed to admit they like anime because they don't wanna look like an "Otaku" best way to bring em out is to start an anime club or a Japanese something club and trust me they will come to you...
I am situated in Bloemfontein, one of the more conservative towns in South Africa, and it is hellishly difficult to get hold of anime. I was one of those horrible people who thought that anime is the Dragonball Z 'cartoons' my younger siblings were watching... until a friend introduced me to Evangelion. Eish! The drug kicked in and I need more and more - except there rarely is more available! Most of the people around me think anime is a bit 'Eastern' (not a good thing for the traditional Afrikaner community). Those who are more tolerant to people exploring don't understand why anyone would get so worked up about not being able to get hold of the next episodes/seasons - because if you wait long enough, you will eventually get hold of Grey's Anatomy/Desperate Housewifes/whatever series it is you're following. Not so the case with anime! One has to rely on rather dubious means to obtain and share. And, because the anime community is so small, it is not guaranteed you'll find another person hyping about the same series as you. It is indeed verrrry, verrry lonely here down south!

....lol demon tigger
Gun Smith Cat ...get it?
