What do you think of the ending?
This thread is going to be full of spoilers obviously
I was wondering what other people thought of the ending of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Personally I have mixed feelings. The fight against the anti-spirals with Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (the mech, not the series) was awesome and the scale of the whole fight was just great. Up to this point everything still went as I expected of this series; but not that much later it happened... They let Nia die.
I thought Nia's death didn't fit the series at all. Simon is not a person that would just let Nia die like that. Through the whole series the Dai-Gurren brigade faced challenges that seemed impossible to overcome, but they still took them on and were victorious every single time. But in the end Simon just lets Nia die without even trying to save her...

I knew Nia's death was coming, but what got me was Simon suddenly wandering off on his own. It didn't seem quite right somehow.
All in all, though I loved the series and I'm SO buying it when it's released domestically. I hope ADV doesn't screw it up too badly.

I guess I had mixed feelings about the ending too. It was okay. I expected Nia's death simply because it's a Gainax production and they just love to kill off their characters whenever they get a chance. But still, Nia looks so beautiful there at the end...
Also, I thought it was funny how Simon and Rossiu's voices were so deep in the epilogue.

I also expected Nia to die.But i guess the melodrama of her disappearing when she has just got married to Simon was slightly off. There was probably a more appropriate way to put it.Simon's disappearance was pretty predictable after Nia's death but i had expected some kind of epic quest to unite all the newly discovered people and what happened(to evade spoiling more) sort of disappointed me...But overall it is a decent anime...

It was fun while it lasted. The ending was decent enough,at least it wasn't massacred like Claymore.
The ending sucked, and everything got too much... enhanced.
I prefer episodes 1-12 of the first season.
Season 2 was just honestly ridiculous.

I didn't expect Nia to die, because I don't understand all the specific little details that would cause her to die.
I think Gainax could've thought of something better for Simon. I never thought he'd become just a wandering bum teaching kids how to crack open nuts.
Viral doesn't look good with short hair.

Much deeper anime when you go into the later episodes. You would think that it is all about some crazy fast paced action but it gets quite more interesting when the story progresses.
Nia died
! no!! i thought shes gonna die but didn't expect she really die like that, sad and the ending was decent. not much to say about the ending juz that their past adventure were great!

Well, I really like the end of Tenge Toppa Gurren Lagann, the final fight against the anti-spiral with the ultra really gigantic gurren lagann was awesome! I like the view of the battle form the planet, where the two machines look really colossal.
The eath of nia was a really tragic , but obviuos thing, because nia was a product of the Anti-Spiral. if they die, Nia too. But I was really sad because nia was one of myu favorite character in the series.
The end of Youko as teacher Like it a lot!. and I give thanks to Gainax for not show her face when she is old. she is so beautiful, and I dont like to see her in other older image. The end of Simon was good, he is the typical hero that dont want fame or fortune, and also want to be the real him. I also think that the death of Nia affect him too much, and for that he become a man of his own.
Really great final to a great anime!

Truly, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann was the most epic mech ever seeing how it is probably the largest since it can fight on top of a galaxy. Nia's death was only half-expected since I didn't really understand that little clue during the battle when she slightly disappeared but I think it was then that they both knew that they had little time left together. Overall, it was a masterpiece of an anime. I enjoyed the ending perfectly. Simon was no political ruler, so like the great Cincinnatus, he retired after his job was done and the world was in good hands. It would have been nice if he had a farm and family to go back to but since he didn't, wanderer fits him just fine.
The ending of this anime was kinda confusing for me. I thought that Nia was a clone and not an entity made by the anti spirals so what caused her to just dissipate like that? That aside her death in general was just kinda out of nowhere but I guess the ending did what it was supposed to do which was to give closure. In the end it was still an awesome anime to watch. Time well spent.

The ending was problematic for me.
I knew Nia had to "die" (it was more a disapperation than a death) once the victory was won, but it was really painful that she had to live long enough to marry Simon before she did go.
And I was really very sad to see Simon go out on his own - after all, he was the most powerful warrior of his time: it was his accomplishments (after getting socked in the jaw by Kamina) that made victory possible. But to hide himself away like some sort of criminal was just too much.
All of which is to say that I didn't much care for the tragedy of it all - even though I know that wars won and triumphs over oppression always express themselves in terms of personal tragedy. I wanted happy happy and ever after, not the realism of the let down of accomplishment.
All of which is to say that the ending was brilliant - the creators were realistic and authentic. I shall always remember Kamina, Simon and Nia more as real persons than as mere characters.

The ending was INCREDIBLE! Gainax really made a killer ending. Episode 27 had the single best animation quality and special effects I've seen in the whole series so far. I thought Ep. 15 couldn't be beaten, but 27 totally ousted it. Try watching some parts frame-by-frame, and you'll see the amount of detail the animators put into this episode.
As for the actual ending itself, I thought they wrapped everything nicely. I mean, we all knew Nia was going to die, or that this would be a "semi" bad ending. I mean, c'mon, we're talking about GAINAX here, folks.

The ending was pretty good, that is until Nia died. I think that Simon should have stayed part of the government rather than leaving and becoming a hobo. He saved the entire Universe, yet he didn't get much credit.
