When you decide to sit down and watch a new anime what are you looking for? Do you look for action or comedy, drama or romance, or do you just look for hot chicks/guys in the anime? I am really interested in finding out.
Personally i look for a fusion between action, comedy and drama. Specific examples would be like my favorite Eureka 7 as well as things like Naruto and Bleach.

I love watching anything with interesting story and not too too serious and too many blood shed
i guess it's really depends on my mood at that time...

What I look for depends on the genre. Im an Action/Comedy man, and so when im watching a show in that Genre, I look and rate how well the action scenes are, and how funny the comedy is, and the style/quality of art. If they're all good, then I see what kinda story they have, then on to romance, drama, mystery, ect. and I will then either continue watching or drop it.
Hehe, also...every once in awhile... the hot girls..XD! They attract fans! I dont wanna watch a show full of ugly people! Not even if the story is amazing and what not for example I hate Miyazaki... Mr.no fan service whatsoever in any of his works. even though they win awards and crap.

Hmm, before I watch an anime I definitely check out the production cast. I only watch animes done by people that have a proven history of delivering great stories, be it drama, action, or comedy. Art is also a huge factor as there are many average and poorly drawn animes out there. People generally tend to like Naruto and Bleach, but I think the art on the shows are pretty sub-par. Finally I look for an excellent music composer. Though art and story are major factors, music can set the tone for much of a series. I mean look at Cowboy Bebop! The music from that anime is legendary.

Before i watch an anime, i usually check the summary and the art of the anime. Nowadays, i just check for the art, if it looks good, then i watch, then i care about the rest of the stuff later.
Mostly its action, drama, comedy maybe once in a while romance but other wise mostly those other ones because other wise to me its boring

When watching an anime,I always want to find out its theme.and I think to an anime or a manga, the theme is the most improtant, with knowing the theme of it,I can understand what the anime want to tell me much easer. Usually with a good theme the anime won’t be a bad one, like FMA,One Piece,Welcome to NHK and so on. This is one type of good anime.
Another type of good anime is the one with a hidden theme but a easily seen good story, like Trinity Blood,The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya,ARIA,Elfen Lied and so on.
So what I will look for in anime are mainly its theme and whether the story is good.

Normally I will watch every anime I can get.
After I have seen it I can decide whether I like it or not.
My preferred genres are comedy and action, but there are times when i need to watch something bloody ^^;
Anyhow... before I start watching, I check how good the drawings are (and if there are some good looking chicks in it)

I look for action, suspense, drama and of course good animation (good character design, good mecha design (if it is that kind of anime)) or something like that, cause if the story doesn´t go with the animation, you´re lost.

I try to look for an anime with a good story, good animation and interesting characters.
Animation quality and story are usually what I look for in a good anime. If they don't have either of those, the anime is usually not even memorable.

The animation and story are really important, but it doesn't mean much without good character development. You have have to care about the characters to make it an excellent anime.
First of all, i look for a good graphic quality, with our new technologies, i believe that we can at least obtain something really pleasant for the eyes and japanese seems to have come over this challenge since a while, because most new animes have awesome graphics mostly in important scense, also in an anime i look for a kind of complex story that reveal its mystery little by little, simple examples are samurai champloo or Fullmetal alchemist, also ghost in the shell, after these 2 points, comedy is the most welcome, animes and tv shows are the only things that can make me laugh, and since i did start to watch bleach, i can say that such animes ( GTO, naruto, and lot more) that mix fun with action leaves me speechless, as for drama anime i love them most, like gundam seed where it reflects really how life is in a sci-fi world, many characthers do die, i do not mean that i like people dying for any reason, but it shows you that things do not always go the way you wish like in real life, and i love when anime do underline facts even if it is with imaginary world and characters, as for romance, well if it does have a catching story maybe i would let me go for it, but too much repetition in scenes gets on my nerves like love hina or dragon ball Z which is an action anime, so for a balance anime to me, it should be able to make you feel the story with both making the max use of the pictures and the sounds
Depends on what anime it is as long as the storyline's nice, beautiful artwork, and the soundtrack of it as well. As for the genres, anything, as long as it meets what I want.
I look for actions with really nice art and animation or comedy. Romance or romance with comedy. Drama with complex or unique story.
