Um, for me, it was creepy like some of you say. It somewhat reminded me of
Oh, and I just watched the first season. I am wondering of whether to watch the second one of just leave the story there, haha. The creepiest part was the part of where Rika stabs her own head in order to not go through the tortures / to go on 'stage' which Shion has prepared. Hm, overall, it's just an ok anime, to me. No offense in this, because, to me, the choices the charas make in order to solve things (that is killing people) are sometimes too pointless and it also shows that they didn't really give it much thought or they take killing likely.
My fav chara in this is Rika. Somehow, she's the chara I find not crazy. Though Mion isn't crazy too, haha. Um, even though Rika has a double personality, both of them aren't crazy, but they're done nicely with their serious touch, especially her double's seiyuu. I really love it when she talks, haha, it's just cool.
For my least favourite chara is Satoko (Is it? Or, Sayoko?), yeah, I don't like her very much. The main thing was, she was the one who actually wanted to show her nii nii that she's all grown up, right? And then she calls off the social worker, but later cries about this whole thing. Wasn't she the one who chose that? And now, why is she crying over it? Yeah, that's the part I don't like about her.
Um, other than that, I actually thought the first arc was quite interesting and suspenseful, though there were some freaky parts where I am not that used to watching those type in animes,
for example, Keiichi (or some of you say, Kei1), pushing the door while Rena's hand was still there, and um....some more things, but I can't really remember them now.
Oh, and I seem to have noticed one sentence which each arc has it. "Usoda!", right? And, maybe "gomen"? But I don't think all arcs have that. Boy, I wouldn't want to get the game. I think it's too freaky, because the pictures will just stay there until you read the dialogues underneath, heh. :p

At times this anime cracked me up because of some of the exaggerated expresions the characters would make. It confused me in the beginning but as the story went on I could see what was going on. This was truly an amazing show to watch and I enoyed EVERY minute of it. :)
The second season on the other hand better explains the first season (assuming you didn't understand one bit of it).

I've watched the whole series a few years ago. It was very confusing in some of the episodes and the characters were somewhat twisted when after the beginning of it has finished. I feel sympathetic towards most of them in the story. You'll know what I mean if you've seen most of the episodes.
This series really threw me for a loop. In the beginning I had no idea just how much of an impression Higurashi was going to make for me. At most I was expecting a slightly scary, somewhat predictable horror anime, sloshed down with cutesy, doe-eyed school girls, but instead, oh, boy... instead I set my eyes on a truly shocking, brilliantly presented, and (at times) down right traumatizing series, laden with plot twists and mystery.

I like this series alot I finished the 1st season and it was amazing and I love the gore sometimes.
The 2nd season will clear almost everything if you are left confused from the 1st season and I prefer the 2nd season more than the 1st. A 3rd season will come out sometime in 2008 which I can't wait to watch.

Great story!
after watching that, I learned a Japanese word: unmei (fate). The idea of Ryukishi07 is so impressive!!
And about the 3rd season, I wonder what that season is about, almost the mystery is revealed already

The anime is nice, thought it scares me at some parts. Anyway, can't wait for season 2.
I saw both seasons and I love the way everything is prepared in the first season and solved in the second, I think that makes it an awesome show.
I dont endorse the violence shown in season one, though. Remember the fingernail scene :) Gave me the creeps ~

Didn't read the whole topic, too long. I really loved Higurashi, it's my favorite anime. I love how each episode just makes you want to watch the next one. I know when I saw the series, I couldn't wait to see what happened next. It also makes you keep guessing what was going on and what the explanation behind the whole bizarre events were till the last arc of the second season.

My favourite anime.
And funny thing is, all my friends I've shown it to really loved it too, guess we all have similar taste then...
Even tough there were some disturbing parts like satoko getting stabbed, I think its partly the reason this anime is so good. The diversity between "the good times" and "the bad times" is just perfect... The fact that they chose the early '80s for the timeline was ingenious too.
Can't wait for "Higurashi No Naku Koroni Rei"!:D

I finished the first series and though I loved the story about the curse, the way it ended disappointed me. They killed each other because there was not trust between them?? Oh come on...
Also, the priceless facial expressions made me laugh all the time, which kinda ruined the tense atmosphere XD
A friend told me that I should watch the second series before deciding whether I like it or not, so that's what I'm going to do.

I thought the first season was awesome. It was just really scary and freaked me out a lot. Watching lolis kill each other is really freaky. But the things that pushed the kids to their limits are...in actuality, very real things. Like the abuse that Satoko suffers.
