Keeping Fit
1 year 4 months ago
I've been a part of the AP community for a little while now, and i'm beginning to notice that many people here are either in high school or university. During such hectic times, i'm finding it hard to fit exercise into my weekly routine, and i'm wondering if you guys and gals have the same problem?
I'm trying to do a bit of weight lifting and jogging when i can, but it takes A LOT of effort to pull myself away from the computer, (not the textbooks :P?) pull on my shoes, and hit the road or the treadmill.
Then again, i'm finding that if i don't exercise, i'll feel really tired and i'll end up sleeping most days before much (or any!) work is completed. Ah, the drama that accompanies the
SPRINGTIME OF YOUTH!!! Kekekeke...
Yeah, i know, i'm a nut.

Keeping fit?
eat fruits :P
eat fruits :P
Yea, a common prob for us high school & university student.
Do your exercise in front of computer like push-up, sit-up, weight lifting (buy the tools).
Still can't do it, give yourself 5 minutes to do meditation to calm your mind (that's if you know how to meditate properly) then go to exercise
Oh, and i agree with swissberry, fruits'll keep your body healthy

Despite being a university student, I always find time to fit excercising into my schedule. There is a building on campus specifically for excercises, weight lifting, and whatnot, and I usually go there at 3-4 PM till 5 PM. Regardless of what needs to be done, I need to squeeze in at least 1 hour for that. I don't excercise everyday though, only on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after class. I don't like exercising before class because that's just suicidal.
What I usually do is run 2 miles, bicycling, and some tummy crunches. Sure, it's a given that I'll feel tired after but I definitely feel more refresh after a while. I also swim every Monday. It's becoming a habit for me to exercise.
If you could exercise for at least 2 weeks, you will get used to it. The first two weeks of dedication is the hardest, but it sure pays off! You'll feel way more healthy.
Of course, eating right is an obvious one. Exercise and eat healthy, not eat 5 hamburgers and then exercise to try and work the calories off. It never works that way.

I'd suggest you take martial arts.
I also find it hard to exercise on a daily routine, but when I remember I usually make myself exercise for about 15 minutes now and then doing curls, pull ups, and stretches; which really isn't enough.. apparently.
Doing some sort of martial arts really helps because it forces the hell out of you to put all your effort into it (Make sure the martial arts teacher is Asian, they're usually extra hard on students XD). Although it takes up a bit of time, it's a guarantee that you'll get fit and have more than enough exercise.
I'm currently doing Kumdo(Just like Kendo) 5 days a week for an hour or two each day. Putting on 15 Lbs of armor and getting smacked with sticks while having to dash around hitting specific targets while screaming as loud as possible will at least get you going... and pumped up to do more exercise, if you're not dead afterwards.

Well, this is another thread about one of my favorite topics. Well I exercise at least 4 times a week, for at least 1 1/2 hours or two. The fact is, I have to study eight subjects for my faculty and still manage to exercise in these given time periods... but of course if there are exams I gotta reduce my training schedule...
the best way to be fit and lose weight is... guess what... to do cardiovascular exercises. It is much more effective than training too much weights, because weight training can only help you to gain extra muscle, but not for gaining cardiovascular endurance. Fitness to me is all about cardiovascular endurance and how much you can handle beyond your limit.

I starve myself to stay skinny!
Well, if you want to keep fit ... Do something that you really love! Im going to Thai boxing for the time and i absolutely love it!
So if your going to sport... Do something that you really like, if you dont... It's pretty useless in my point.. I mean, who the heck really likes to run in the forest for 1 hour anyways? xD ;) :P
It's all about prioritys mate, if you find something you really like. Then you probably will prioritize that! =)
Hugs and kisses

Oh, i see.
Well, healthy eating is an obvious 'must', but i daresay i'm quite bad when it comes to avoiding unhealthy food. I'm still as skinny as a post though.
I'm not so much worried about putting on weight, as i am about turning into a zombie.
Taking up martial arts is a good idea, but lots of the clubs in my area are really commercial, and don't really aim to achieve any sort of well-being amongst the members - rather, they focus on boosting profits.
Kumdo sounds like fun though, and a good work-out.
I wanted to try boxing, but my family said that i'd lose brain cells... and apparently i dont have that many to lose anyway.
'Guess i'll try writing up a daily schedule which allows time for exercise, rest and work.
Thanks for the responses guys!
Oh, and about the comment about priorites... I kind of prioritize watching anime, eating, and sleeping over exercise.
'Nice warm shower and dinner VERSUS cold sweaty work-out session while watching trashy tv'
I usually pick the first one!

I have plenty of time outside of uni to do exercise but I don't. Mainly because I get m exercise from walking everywhere - to the bus stop. Plus around the uni. I also try ( 'try' is the key word here XD) to eat healthy. Eating healthy and excercising regularly is the key for getting less stress come assignments and exam time. I think starting up a routine would be the way to go, and has hard as it may be, give up some time with the anime to do a bit of excercise.
Or reward yourself! maybe say "if I do half an hour of exercise - then I'll watch half an hour of anime!" It never works for me, but it might for you lol

Its really easy if you promise yourself to do it first thing in the morning (I knwo waking up early sucks). But if you make it later on in the day, its incredibly likely that you will put it off. But I guess if you are able to keep it regular that is all that matters. Once you start screwing around and missing a day or to, it is important to fix it IMMEDIATELY. If you are lenient you are almost guaranteed to give up within 6 months or so. So, whatever you do, keep it regular no matter what (even if your sick).

Almost any physical activity will keep you fit. The important thing is that you enjoy that activity. Otherwise, you'll soon get bored of it and will eventually stop. Combine that with a great diet and you're all set.
But personally, I practice martial arts and recreationally bike. My diet on the other hand can use some work, its a little on the unhealthy side.

Apology

a really bad way to diet... this will lead you to gastric and stomach ulcer
diet coke won't do better... it's not good for health... it's still count as junk foodas for me i had a mug of cereal for breakfast (sometimes will have whole meal bread), i eat only fruits for lunch, and dinner... the same way others does =) meat/fish & veg, and sometimes soup XD

Get a buddy to do exerise with you. And plan a schedule. After you have a schedule AND a buddy to do it along with you, you won't be that lazy anymore.
This is going to sounds pretty nerdy, but i don't really find time to exercise cuz i just don't enjoy it. i do however spend a few hours a week playing DDR..its fun and after a while you can show off at the arcades XD
