My First Attempt

Not to long ago, i stumbled upon this site. After browsing through the wallpapers, ive decided to try my own at making some wallpaper. I saw this Phantasy Star Online Epp3 picture (the elf girl) somewhere, and thought it would be cool in a wallpaper. Well after about 2 days of on and off work, ive finished it. I want to know, is it too "busy", not origional enough, etc. Criticism and comments would be appreciated.

You set a very good mood, the only thing you're lacking is the knowledge of photoshop; otherwise, I don't really have a lot of criticism for your wall. Nicely done.

Yea im still learning how to fully use the software, even though ive had it for about 2 years. My only real complaint about it is that the background has too many different shapes (aka its too busy).
According to what I'm seeing, I think you're trying to make a grungy but techno wall? I dunno, correct me if I'm wrong, but there are a few tutorials that can help you. You can check the ones provided in animepaper or you can try the one I use: http://www.good-tutorials.com. Hope that helps =P

Allright, i have another question. should i submit this wallpaper i made, or not? Does it really matter if I do and it is rejected (is that how it works?)?
Personally, I can't judge whether your wall will be rejected or not. Best that you wait for more comments and criticism besides the ones from me.
I think you have a good idea. It just that you need to look more closely at the colour scheme of your wall. Overall, the first thing I noticed was that your wall has to much purple and colours that kind of clash. Try playing around with the background colour a bit. Another problem, is the amount of space you used (look at the image and look how much room there is...a bit much don't you think?) Try rearranging the image into different positions.
Anyway it looks okay so far...just take your time and experiment with colour and space. Good luck !(thumbs up!)

Well i messed with it a bit and it turned out like this (any better people): http://www.myfilestash.com/userfiles/Sotch/wallapper%20pso%20epp%203%20version%203%20copy.jpg
thats all i do with it for now, ill start a new wallpaper later on this week most likely (ill still gladly accept comments and criticism).

It's not at all bad. Character extraction could do with some tweaks and I think you're tried to hide it a bit with the glow. Unfortunately the glow doesn't really work with the wall in this case. I'd also loose the drop shadow.
The bg looks a bit sort of 'random ps brushes'. Grunges are kinda one of those things that people either like or don't, but I would say it feels like it needs to be more consistent stylistically in terms of the prushes. Also, try to learn how to create your own custom brushes. This one may work better if you try to add some elements of grunge over the top of the character.
In terms of the colour, your main problem is that the scan appears to be a bit of a horroble collection of contrasting colours :/. I think to an extent any of the colours you pick out of it will therefore not really work, but I would suggest going for either a soft, light green shade as it appears that the original light source on the scan was this colous, or match the brown of her skin and than plunge it down into a darker shade.
Submitting to the gallery is something you should only really do if you're confident that your wall is 'finished' and if, when browsing around, it's comperable in quality to walls of similar style.
also, you need to maek yourself a sig and be sure to put it on all your work.

Basically, it's kind of random. the background i mean.
while grunge is random, theres typically a theme to it. when i personally do grunge (which lately has been pretty foten for some reason) i actually do thebackground realistic first. i create the scene or concept i want to portray, be it destruction, sadness, helplessness, or whatever, and THEN i add teh textures, keeping a close eye on where i place my brushwork and how it effects the whole wall overall.
just doing brushes here and there to fill up space, makes it look really random and unthoughtout. also, be careful what brushes you choose. i'm personally not a fan of hard edged brushes. they make the wallpaper look noisy and pixely.
your wall isn't bad at all, but it needs work. you seem to already grasp a lot of the concepts, but need some work in others.
i wouldn't trash this wall, because it's heading in the right direction. if you don't mind actually, i'd like to try out some things on your jpeg and maybe show you what i mean?

sure, go right ahead. It will be cool to see what other people can do with my work.
