The topic is fairly simple, just tell us what genre you prefer watching and why. It could be a combination of genres (e.g. mecha + yuri = Kannazuki no Miko).

Below is the list of possible genres in an anime. Please tell me if I missed something or made a mistake:

Shounen - usually anime geared to the male audience
Shoujo - usually anime geared to the female audience
Shounen Ai - anime centered on Male to Male relationships
Shoujo Ai - anime centered on Female to Female relationships
Mahou Shoujo - anime with Magic girl theme
Loli - anime that features under aged looking girls
Horror - Uh, anime with horror
Mystery - a brain-teaser anime
Hentai - Need I say more?
Drama - Soap opera anime
Action - more on fighting and gunfights
Comedy - anime that tickles your funny bone
Mech - anime that features Real Robots or Super Robots
Fantasy - magic, monsters, parallel worlds, etc.
Slice of Life - more on character driven plots
Sci-Fi - Battlecruisers, Bozanians, etc.

Me? I prefer more on Slice of Life with the combination of Drama and Shoujo Ai. I also like Mecha mixed with Drama and Mystery.

Why? Because watching real personalities go throughout their lives is kind of a good reflection of me and the society around. I love Shoujo-Ai because, to tell you the truth, I love watching women kiss each other (a hidden fetish perhaps).

I love mecha because it envisions you of the possibilty that man can achieve building these giants. I also love watching Mystery anime because it challenges your reasoning and analization skills. *think Hirgurashi*

So what's yours?

I think the stories about adventure or fight or humor fit me best,like One piece,Gintama,Full Metal Panic,Naruto,Bleach,D-grey Man,Dragon Ball and so on. I have watched lots of anime,and it is hard to say which I love best,only if an anime that the fight is wonderful and the story is not bad,the most important is that the characters are not ugly,then I will choose it.For example,Gintama,I don’t know how much of you have ever watched it,I think it is a very facetious anime,the characters from are not beautiful but not ugly either,and some of its stories are quite good. I recommend you to watch it,and I think if you are also a facetious person,you will probably love it.

MECH is on the top of my list man~i love mecha..^_^ and it's best if it's combined with drama...comedy,horror and action are in my list too..fantasy is in too but i don't like all fantasy anime..i'm more picky when it comes to fantasy genre..

My type of anime are Shounen, I saw a couple of Shoujo but i thought they were very boring :P
Also i like Fantasy, Mystery, Comedy and a bit of Action always helps :D If an anime has these aspects then i'll love it!

I prefer the action combined with mystery genre XD and more brutal if can.

I dono really why i love it but must of the anime i watched (not from the tv) are shoujo, and it better if its a comady too cuz i cant watch to much depressing anime (or how i call it heavy)..
And i dont maind to watch shoujo ai or shounen ai if i get to, but until now i watched only once shoujo ai..

My favorite types of anime are slice of life animes. Whenever I see an anime, plot and character development are the only factors that define a good anime for me. Also, slice of life animes tend to cheer me up greatly because they usually find enjoyment in the little things; and also, since it's not too flashy like action or comedies, one can actually learn something from these animes...

My favourite genres are action, martial arts, comedy, romance and drama. It's not that easy to put animes into certain genres, Anidb for example changed their genre system recently, although I already found it to be pretty precise.

I like a mixture of things often times Mech however it is not needed i love anime with comedy drama and action but of course it must have a descent storyline and the genres need a balance like it can't always be fighting in every episode

I like all genres... but i prefer comedy, action and mech :)

I like comdey, drama, fantasy... and yeah... but i like different kinds of anime it doesn't really depend on the genre for me^^

I love most of the anime..if it has a interesting storyline...i thought i use to hate Mech but after watching Gundam Seed then i guess i change my mind..
now i'm really into Code Geass..Lulu is so so so cool

ones that i don't really like are Horror with lots and lots of blood...i can't stand it...
horror anime that i'm watching at the moment is Ghost Hunt..it's a bit scary for me..but it's quite interesting

some romance comedy are good too...currently watching Nodame Cantabile..so funny and the music are really nice

it depends on my mood actually..if i need a break then prob watching comedy..ie one piece

Hentai! :P, i prefer watching romance, adventure, and mech. I like watching Slice of life too from time to time, something liek Aria.

Most definitely comedy. I love comedy anime.

Mecha anime come in a close second. If its a comedy based mecha series, all the better.

Action is probably ranked third. I liked Flame of Recca, I enjoy the non-crap fillers of Naruto and Bleach and Inuyasha is a fairly good 'older' anime. And One Piece...

So, all of those probably fit more into the Shounen area of anime/manga than anything, which I don't dispute.
