AnimeNewsNetwork
In the 21st century, a family of vampires settled down on the grounds of Japan and lived a modest life whilst sucking on the blood of humans discreetly. However, the eldest daughter of the family, Karin Maaka, has an embarassing secret which cannot be revealed to anyone. Even though she is a vampire, she does not lack blood like her family members. Instead, she overproduces blood to the extent that she transfuses the excess into her victims, hence increasing their blood levels. Despite her troubling body characteristic, she attends school like any other high school student, that is until a new transfer student, Kenta Usui, enters her life.

Characters:
Hmmm... How can I say this... KARIN IS SO CUTE!. I just love how her fangs are visible everytime she speaks. She is just so full of energy. Her sister, Anju, just has this calm, mysterious demeanor behind her. And the doll that she carries around named "Boogie-kun" is just humurous. As for the main male lead, Kenta Usui, he scares me a bit. Just his face has this constant 24/7 glare and that can be a turnoff to some people. As far as the other characters are concerened, there is a brief introduction of Karin's friend, Maki Tokitou, and Karin's parents. I'm sure there will be more characters as the anime progresses. Only time will tell.

Story:
Based on the manga by Yuna Kagesaki. The story tells of a family of vampires that moved in Japan. The eldest daughter, Karin Maaka, is no ordinary vampire. Instead of taking blood from her victims, she gives them blood. In other words, she overproduces it. Somehow, the main character Kenta Usui is causing Karin some trouble. Watch the 1st episode to find out. The setting takes place in present-day Japan. Everything seems to be "normal" for now. I will have more info on the story as the series goes.

Animation:
I take one look at Karin and one thing comes to my mind; a brighter and somewhat clearer version of Tsukuyomi -MOON PHASE-. Nothing seems to be out of proportion for the most part, and the characters are nicely touched. What impressed me the most thus far about this show is the opening scene. What a nice way to open up a new anime. Watch it and find out for yourself. ;)

Music:
Doh. This is what I hate about watching the first episode of most anime. They didn't show the OP for Karin! Not that I am complaining about what they showed you as the opening scene mind you. I just wished I got to see the OP instead. As far as the music is concerned, you will hear styles ranging from very light, comedic tones, to gothic orchestral pieces. The ED, "Mou hitotsu no birthday" by Fm.θ was rather cheerful and had a very upbeat tone to it. I have yet to hear the OP, so I'll tell you about it once I hear it. In terms of the music department? I am expecting quite a nice selection for this anime.

Verdict:
After watching the first episode, this anime has me already looking forward to the next one. I am interested to see how things will go for Karin. Whether this will be a spin-off of Tsukuyomi -MOON PHASE-, or be in a completely different league of its own, only time will tell. For the first episode experience, it has nothing similar to Moon Phase. I hope it stays that way. Karin's cuteness is just so different from Hazuki's. My final take on this? If you like comedy with a touch of supernatural, this is definitely worth a look. You will get a bite out of this one. ;)

8.5/10

First impressions were quite mediocre, at least compared to manga (I have read 1. volume or so) which I liked quite a bit. So, this was kind of a disappointment for me. Karin was cute yes, but not as cute as in manga. And somehow I got annoyed by those "rolling square"-type cutting between scenes. And Kenta's eyes (why weird, why not frightening?). Anju was great, tho. If I had to compare this (as anime) to Neko Mimi Mode...choice wouldn't be a tough one. Nevertheless, I was little amused (and because of it I am writing this even though I should be in bed already (I will definitely be in zombie-mode tomorrow)) so...I certainly will watch more.

PS. I just checked, and Kenta's eyes were quite similar in manga. But why in earth I didn't get irritated...

Too bad the group that was doing the manga scanlations is stopping due to licensing.

I'll probably watch it soon, though. As soon as I find out which version of the anime to keep...

Both a.f.k. and We Suck are quick on their fansubbing. They released at almost the same time, 2 days after the first episode of Karin was released. I have seen a.f.k.'s fansubbing from Full Moon, but this is the first time I have seen We Suck in action. Having seen both versions, We Suck's quality is much higher than a.f.k.'s. In terms of translations, they are pretty much the same, but there are some still some slight differences between them. Since they both released at the same day, it all comes down to who's ever translation you like best, and the video quality of their releases.

Yeah, but it has a bright side: licensing means that I might be able to buy them someday (books > scans, naturally). If I can afford (my bank account is already dying...online shops are evil).

And about groups: I've seen some Aishiteruze Baby from a.f.k and it was (imo) ok. And I have a faint feeling that I have seen Battle Programmer Shirase from We Suck (can't be sure, and can't check it because I'm not at home atm (even though I have VNC server up and running at home: can't be without my precious collections ;)).

Watch episode 1 and enjoy it. I checked out the website to find that this anime have 24 episode, usually these kind of anime only have 12-13 episode. The sad part is I know that it will be half a year until this anime is finish, meaning I have to wait for it every week.

The main girl: Karin = Cute
The main guy = why did they draw his eyes exactly the same as Hideki in Chobits. They are not that good to look at... :P

I didn't think that Karin was that impressive. I mean, overall, it didn't seem like there would be much of a plot, the animation style wasn't great, and the first episode didn't make me feel like I really wanted to watch the next episode. The whole vampire idea seems quite overused to me. Just in general, there was nothing different about this new series that sets it apart from others.. It looks to me like it will be some kind of comedy/romance story between Karin and Usui. It's getting old :Z

Noo! Not A-E! They're supposed to sub my Yakitate!! Japan episodes.. I thought they dropped every other project so that they could devote all their time to Yakitate!!.. Bleh.. this means that they'll release the episodes even slower =_=

No, it doesn't. They very obviously didn't drop projects for YakiJapan and the release of Karin probably won't mess with Japan's release "schedule", either.

I guess I don't like this anime. I thought it will be a serious and comedy but this one seens not to be serious at all. It is okay for fun.

I have never read the manga before, so I just gave this series a try because it was a new series. The story in episode 1 seems a bit odd, and funny... However, it just doesn't have an attraction (at least for me) to keep me to continue watching it. It must be the way the series is trying to mix dark/serious themes with comedy... (or maybe the unvampire idea)
