I was reading the the "Dying Dream" thread. Omni-chan mentioned about human combustion and it got me curious. what's behind that anyway? though the explanation of some real-life accounts are feasible, it is still statistically improbable. never knew of real-life personal account though as of yet. you might have yours so i wanna hear them...

I do not think that human combustion is not real because there really is nothing in the human body that can make a human explode or brust into flames without help. this type of things can only happean with some outside force like a interal bomb or something.

Well, as per the recorded accounts, most people who "exploded or bursted into flames on their own" are usually the fat people. after all, fat is oil. and oil is a fuel agent. just cannot determine how it was combusted...

Yes fat is a oil but oil burns more like a candle and not explode like say gasoline.

Makes sense. though confining any type of fuel in high pressure areas make them explode in some ways. and the human body is very ideal since our inards are compressed in water. though that may seem contradicting because about 80+% of the body is water.

Yes, are organs are compressed with water but, are organs move, therefore the compounds that may make the explodsion, they may be disturbed so that the process that makes the explodesion will not happen.

Well, it's never been proven to actually exist, but there have been several cases where spontaneous human combustion is the alleged cause of death. There seem to be two hypotheses on how it actually happens: the wick effect, the melting and combustion of body fat, and the static flash fire effect, the buildup of great amounts of static electricity which cause clothing to combust.

Sounds like something out of the X-Files series more then anything else... there are a lot of substances that can burn like crazy, but you need to apply suficient energy to get the process started... thats a little difficult to do with the human body. We are made mostly of water after all..
The only possible way I can imagine to have an explosive combustion effect would be... being very very obease and filled like a ballon with methane then eating some flint stones and dancing the cha cha with all your strength ^_^

Let us not forget we have air, which is generally combustible gas, as well as oil and fat, these are all possibilities. Oh by the way, electric body signals are possible causes, since those are energy sources as well, the spark can be lit. But I myself do not believe it at all. Since I never seen one that come with concrete proof. There is always the fact that they are smoking of got lit externally. Just so happens that there was flammable material on them or in them that caused the overall combustion.
I am not too sure, but until further proven, this cannot be accepted as a general and possible happening.

... or like cell phones can ignite your fuel at the pump ... (the cause was found to be static electricity ... mostly by women going back into the car to fetch something in their purse then touching the pump making a spark that would ignite the gas fumes ... anyway).
I really doubt any of your natural body electrical signals can light anything or cause a spark. I agree that in most cases I've just read (from wikipidia and a quick search on google) there always seems to be an external source.

LOL I just watched a TERRIBLE 80's 'horror' flick about Spontaneus Human Combustion. In fact, it was called Spontaneus Human Combustion. There was only one case of truly spontanteus human combustion in the whole thing, though. The rest of the time the main character goes around willing people to be set on fire.
Yeah, so don't rent it. It's terrible. As for 'actual' Spontanteus Human Combustion? Nah, I don't think so. I can buy ghosts, bigfoot, and aliens, but not spontaneus human combustion.
