Has anyone bought the new zune yet? I plan to get it near X mas. 250 bucks right now is kind of steep, but it has everthing ipod has and much more like radio.

Apparently Microsoft didn't allow people to review the product before release and the ads don't tell you a thing about it. There's some serious speculation as to the quality and reliability of the product due to this secrecy. If they wanted to challenge iPod why did they let this slide under the radar?

Probably to keep from angering all the OTHER mp3 players on the market MS directly dealt with. I mean everyone from Sandisk to Creative sort of "partnered" with MS for windows compatibility and the ability to play windows media - which is licensed by MS, which is pushed by windows media player, which is the default media player on all windows PCs.

Microsoft has a long history of screwing over anyone that partners with them, so I'm thinking they wanted to limit the backlash from other manufacturers until the last moment. The last thing they need is more negative press in face of competition like the iPod.

Zune has alot of problems in it.i wanted one but the reviews were bad so i changed my mind....the zen is actually better......if you're actually looking for player...not just brand ..

Stick with iRiver if you're avoiding iPod this year ;P The Zune is big on socialising music but it only works if everyone else has a Zune... the software leaves something to be desired as well.

Reviews seem to say Zune is bad. It also kinda looks ugly because of the bigger screen. I think I'd rather get a ipod video for the same price even though i don't really like Apple either.

The Zune is a great idea on the part of Microsoft, they usually do their best to be a thorn in the in side of the market share leader, an example would be the Xbox 360. One of the things that sets the Zune apart from the iPod is that it has a FM receiver built in. I have always maintained the opinion that if your buying a mp3 player your usually not buying it to listen to the radio. I have never liked the radio, 10 minutes of music followed up with 30 of commercials. The radio also doesn't play exactly what I want to hear, when I want to hear it. Keep in mind that this is just my opinion, but I would really never base my decision for buying a mp3 player on whether or not it had the FM receiver built in. For me I greatly enjoy the total control I have over my music, how I listen to it and music in general.

...is a crappy iPod wannabe knockoff. Seriously.

We have one in our store on display and honestly, it looks allright, and it's cool that it plays stuff off the radio too, but other than that, I don't like it. Not to mention if you already have everything uploaded onto your computer in iTunes, you have to re-upload it all under whatever crappy format Microsoft needs it to be for the zune.

I am certain it's going to flop...It's nothing impressive, it's heavy, it's tacky, it's expensive, and it's trying to edge it's way into a market which is already dominated by apple.

The Zune is a powerful MediaPlayer, but has hacks and needs patches. THey didn't utilize wi-fi well, and they really need to slim it down. If you really want a subsitute for those crap iPods, then get a Zen. They are pretty slim, have a huge screen, replacable battery, and a huge battery life. They have better color quality than iPods, and also more media player formats. Go CREATIVE!
