swordsmanship

I'm part of the Kendo club at my University but one of my friends does some Wushu and has some experience with the duel flat blades. I like Kendo, or Kumdo in Korean, not only because of the whole sword thing but also the discipline which every martial art, or weapon training requires. It's also a great work out and plus you get to meet some really cool people.
LoL, I've at the point that I can buy my armor but I've also been looking for a real Katana for when I become a 2nd Dan but I found a full size replication of Tensa Zangetsu, the overall sword is almost 6ft ^^;
I've also wanted to get into the Tai Chi sword style, not sure why really but eh...

I've alwaiz wanted to try it..it sounds fun..except i'll prolly do myself some serious injury >.<
I would like to learn... since that i want to go to those natur size fights here we call them GN for grandeur nature but thats in french so i don't know how to call that in english... but we make our costumes and a wepon with what ever but it can't be to hard so we don't hurt the person.. i din't go yet.. i'm still working on my costume and all.. but people say it's very fun.. so if i could learn how to fight with a sord it would help me win my fights^^
I want to try using the katana. It seems like fun ^_______^
And what do you recommend me to practice? I would want to start training, but I'm somewhat picky about the discipline to choose. My goal is learning how to defend myself, or even better, how to attack, with a sword (no, I'm not planning on killing someone). I would want something similar to ancient times training, for example, Middle Ages. Is there something like that nowadays? >_< And if there isn't, what's the best discipline, the most attack focused? I mean, I want a more...errr...how to say it, "rude" discipline.
try using somthing that is like a sword but not sharp you wont and up hearting yourself to badly with a stick or bokkenItSuMoi've alwaiz wanted to try it..it sounds fun..except i'll prolly do myself some serious injury >.<
I thought about it, but then I thought I would save myself the time and buy a gun :(
I own several (functional) swords and spar quite often with wood/ bamboo/ pvc and foam swords. You'd think a sword made of foam and PVC would be way too light, but you'd be wrong. The only swords I own that are heavier than the PVC ones are the real ones because the thick layer(s) of foam adds a surprising amount of weight. I've not had any real instruction, but I spar with a few who have. Lol, I've probably broken about thirty bokken (bokkens? I just realized that I don't know the plural for bokken).
I do a lot of practicing with a sword in each hand, a shorter sword in the right. I don't know that using two at once is really better than just using one because it takes a lot more effort to swing them effectivly, but I enjoy it a lot, so I use two when I can.
I do really want to learn Aikido, but I don't think there's a place in my area that teaches it :(
I think I know what you're talking about and something like that is the reason I started making those PVC weapons. There are strict rules on the way weapons have to be made for the wargame I used to play. They're bulky, but you don't need any kind of armor when you spar with them, so they're really handy. You can hit someone in the face as hard as you can with one of those things and while you'll probably knock them on their back, you won't hurt them (The ground might though).

...not yet...but I do want to learn though...
Had a few kenjutsu lessons, but was unwilling to pay the excessive asking price. Would pay that for laido...
Learning how to use a sword is one of my biggest wishes, but there is no one to teach me
but I don't give up, I'm still searching :)

yes i think that's exactly what i was talking about^^
Man Ironlynx your so lucky to have pll to spar with my closest sparing partner lives a few hundred miles from me I have tride to find more people to spar with but I live in a very small town I use a peace of PVC hanging on a rope to practice but you jest cant beet sparing with a real person.

My fiance and I fight with those, and believe me, at first I was like eh, foam swords, no big deal...but once you've been fighting for hours and you're bruised and BLEEDING...or if you take an accidental head hit, you're damn grateful that they're only foam swords.
My fiance also fences foil, and his brother fights saber and eppe [is that how you spell it? It looks so weird] He's been teaching me how to fight as well because I'm fascinated by it and eventually I'd like to be good enough so that we can pick up swords and just go out and spar with them
Now that is quality time well spent.
Oh, i use swords! I do Martial Arts (Kung Fu). I started learning when i was five years old. I use the longsword and sometimes the broadsword! Yep, eventhough im a female, i can wield a sword!
