Why do people just have to tell evryone that they hate dubs?
I talk a lot about dubbed anime on this forum. Why? because i like it. Im sure im not the only one that agrees to that, hell look how much the anime industry has grown in America in the past few years. I'm part of that anime growth in america, 70percent of the animes i watch are dubbed simply becase thats whats on tv (anime network, adult swim, TAN on demand, and encore) the other 30 percent are from all the fansubs i colelct witch are obviously not Dubbed.
What exactly am i getting at? There are things i like to talk about concerning dubbed anime. In my opinion, i think they are well thought out discussions concerning the topic and it starts off great in the first (and sometimes second) page of posts. But then it starts to degrade to "why do you watch that crap" or "i like non-dubbed better" or my favorite "dubbed anime sux!"
I MEAN jeez im sorry but it just makes the post sound stupid and ergo infects the whole post into becoming a stupid post thats not worth reading. What i would hope to do (which might seem impossible) is to have more constructive posts on this board than stupid Neanderthal/console war-type banter that justs destroys brain cells.
Thank you.
What is your opinion on this take? I hope your on my side :)
EDIT: PLEASE people this is not an I HATE DUBS post please understand that. i dont need your opinion on WHY YOU HATE DUBS. i need your opinion on why you keep telling me that when i dont ask for THAT SPECIFIC OPINION. i know you guys are trying to make some paper but at least leave some constructive critisim. I emphasize on the CONSTRUCTIVE part. letting me know you hate dubs is like having a soccer player explaining why he hates baseball to a football player...its (for the most part) pointless.

I hate dubs because the translation always effects the story and most of the times the voices are crappy.
don't like the English language very much so i am better of Japanese
and a question for you have you ever seen an American show dubbed like south park in Japanese?

I personally prefer subs because you can see the anime in its original form, with the voices they originally were intended to have.
And I grew up in a time when dubs were brutally cut
(leaving out many Japanese cultural references or suggestive scenes, etc..)
- like Sailor Moon :S
Some animes are still cut.
I think that this happens less often; however, we can only pray that 4Kids anime doesn't get a hold of good titles.
So dubs can be done well, and perhaps it is a matter of which you started watching first.
If you seen the subbed version first usually you are disappointed with the voice acting in dubbed (and vice versa if you have seen the dubbed first)
- It might be because people are attached to the characters and the voice they hear first, and consider it as that character's true voice!
Which isn't true all the time though...
**remembers Serena's screechy voice (and yodeling)**
It seems that voice acting in the past was also not taken so seriously :P
Additionally, watching a show in Japanese helps you to learn the language.
Cause you do pick up on new words, which i love!!
It is fun to talk Japanese with your anime friends XD

Dubs most of the time what they said is not exactly what in japanese means. It also change the meaning of what they want to say. The fact that those things happened is because the people that translate that must fit the movements of the mouth and therefore the meaning may change in most of the scenes.

Japanese voice actors are just... Better.
They have voice acting schools and all and it shows. English voice actors just don't seem to take their job seriously.
There are a few exceptions. I mean, I think code geass could do with some Good english voice actors for the britannian roles (but that's wishful thinking since it doesnt seem possible these days to find good VA's. The 80's cartoon days are over)

I think that the japanese voices fit the character, because they were chosen to fit the character from thousands uppon thousands of people. in english, we don't have that kind of number so we take what we get, and it's a shame, they could be really good, but just arn't. (that's what i think anyway)
I like dubs, I haven't hated a single one I seen, but then again I haven't seen much anime series.
I dont have anything agains dubs the problem is that most are so crappy its hard to find one that really captures the escence of the serie, the only dub I really have liked is the Spanish dub of Cowboy Bebop that one is really good, unfortunedly most of them are not well made take for example samurai champloo; I once saw one of the episodes aired on adult swim and it was an engils dub but I found the series kind of uninteresting for some reson, some time after I downloaded the series un Japanese audio with subtitiles and for my surprise the series was really good, there is just too much that dub takes of from the original version and thats not just for anime, movies too.
I have too not watched many anime series but regarding what I have seen so far I prefer subs.I won't say that dubbing is always bad and for that reason I'll give you an example:
Fullmetal Alchemist.I think that the subbed version was much better than the American dubbed one although they had one hell of a cast if I remember correctly.
Golden Boy on the other hand was way better in the dubbed version cause the voice actor just had what his role needed.

Will in my opening i really do hate dubs because sometime the voices are horrible.
and the real spirit of the anime disappear :(

Hmm..i dont post "i hate dubbs!!" but i do agree that dub anime is not my fav. i like em in their natural state, like with japanese voices and such. this is because in translations, the actors sometimes express the words differently or they simply cant do it like the japanese actors..no offence to any actors of course, all work is brilliant.
I find that people who 'hate dubs' or 'hate subs' are rather close-minded. Sure it's a matter of personal preference but to simply reject one completely without any consideration is simply being stubborn. Both subs and dubs work but they usually depend on the scenario. Of course there are many instances of when dubbing is done poorly but at the same time, there are times when they're done very well. Take Full Metal Alchemist for instance, I found the dubbed version to be just as good as the subbed version. In some cases, dubbing works a lot better than subbing. I've seen both the subbed and dubbed versions of Hellsing. You know, this series works a hell of a lot better in English. It's somewhat illogical to see a series that takes place entirely in England, centered around English characters to be in Japanese. I found the English-accented voices to be much more believable and therefore made for a much better experience overall. For those in Japanese settings, subs work just as well. It's very foolish to hate either subs or dubs in general...

my point EXACTLY! im sorry to say but i dont care if you like dub or subs. i like dubs because i do other crap besides stare at the tv (like study and photoshop). im not looking for reasons im looking for WHY DO YOU WANT people TO CARE WHAT YOUR OPINION OF THE SUBJECT IS IF ITS NOT THE SUBJECT OF DEBATE. (in this thread i guess it is but other threads like im gathering information on what kind of good dubs i find it EXTREMELY annoying when people just post "i hate dubs blah blah blah" I DONT CARE! say something constructive plz.
Dont you see?? this is just turning to a i hate dubs post which is EXACTLY WHAT THIS IS NOT TO BE INTEDED FOR...but then again the avg age of an anime watcher is still in grade school...
I am confused on what you want this thread to go.
First, you can't stop the people to post their opinion on a topic, any topic here, because everyone is entitled with that. If it is their opinion that they "hate" dubs then it is theirs. You can't expect everyone to agree with you because every person is different. You cannot stop people to voice out what their thoughts are. What is the use of a forum if their won't be interaction?
YES, interaction because a good discussion doesn't only tells the one side of a topic but also the other.
Your opinion on how good an anime dub is, is your OWN opinion remember that, and the opinions from everyone else is their OWN.
In reality, people are different so you can't expect everybody to agree with you.
Second, don't you think that talking like that makes you sound, a "non-dubbed anime hater"?
Third, you can't stop a person to express their side if you are in a forum. Do you really know what a discussion is? And what a forum is all about?
I hope this answers your question.
