Movie based Games
Most of the movie based games are not that good and is not really good
example are:
Lord of the Rings (the rpg) = doesn't follow the whole story of the movie and gets even worst
I dont know about the eragon game but i have a strong feelings its not that nice too

I it is not bad to make games from movies, but most of the time there are not so good. Ther'ye usually short and easy, but I admit some are rather fun.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with making games based on movies but the problem is, most of the people don't even try! To me, the better ones are Spiderman (Hate the camera system though) and LotR (diehard Tolkien fan) but alot of them rely on the movie, as in they expect people to buy the game based on the popularity of the movie which is just wrong! There are great movies and with some effort, can be made into great games.

I'm going to agree with Frialglow here, I think that a movie based game can be good, but the people that work on them rarely do a good job. Fix up the graphics increase the length and difficulty a little and it'd make huge improvements.
It's not that it's a bad idea to make games based on movies, just look at Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay and Knights of the Old Republic, they're pretty fantastic games. I think the thing about movie games is that they have so little effort put into them, they're rushed into production to meet the movie release and it doesn't allow developers any time to work with it.
Goldeneye is a good example of a true movie game as well, it's just a great game that kind of ignored the movie progression and such, it really turned out swell to ignore the movie aspect mostly.

I think anyone should be able to make video games from anything. It doesn't have to be a movie. It's just that a lot of those licensed game companies aren't really good at making those games.
*But I hope the new Transformers game turns out good =\

Tomb Raider I was really excellent. Eye-candy for Lara Croft fans.
DOA: Dead or Alive was pretty good too.
Really hipped to see the Tekken movie 2009, along (hopefully) with the Soul Calibur Movie. Also expecting Tomb Raider i and the new Mortal Kombat one.

I find that turning movies into games may go both ways. it might give depth and a deeper plot or it might destroy the plot and the feel altogether
As long as the movie was good, and the creators and directors of the game actually TRY, then I see nothing wrong with it. I encourage them XD
Well, is hard to say that the movie-based videogames are good or bad, because some of them are very great and other are very bored. For example the Spiderman video games are really great!! one can do a lot of things in the game, but games likek Batman Begins are bored because int the game one do the things that the computer need to do, is less free to act like you like ( I dont know if a explain myself well).
The movie-based videogames sometimes are very predictibles, because they are based in the movie, so the end of the game is the same end of the movie, so they dont have a original end for the player. If you see the movie, then you know how the game end.

I personaly dont think that its bad making a game based on a movie but almost 70% of the games based on movies turn out to be good-for-notting :(
