Breathe
actually I'm pleased with the way everything turned out except her face and hair, which I just want to stab and kill off
abused some layer modes
enjoy~

Maybe you could've gaussian blurred it by 3 and set the layer mode to overlay.
But yeah pretty neat.
:p
It's so bright and gorgeous... lookie that hair... and yes, the tiltedness is cool... uwah...
MachdudeIts not proffesionally good. But for the rest of us, you deserve a cookie. A big cookie. A friggin awesome cookie because I can bet that about 99% of the people in this forum can't do this for sht.
Grr!! Did you really need that first sentence? Do you think that a person who can make this will not know her own level? I think your standards are a bit biased. For example, even Ogure Ito has some mistakes in his art if I were to critique according to my preferences.
And 99% in the Artist Alley Forum? Why was there a need to bring us down? Besides, most of the people in the Artist Alley are beginners or intermediate, so to say that is... so... mean...
Lol luna.. I didn't tell you because I figured you'd browse through the artists' alley anyway XD Glad you think it's pretty though :D Personally.. I want to kill her hair but meh.. to each their own XD
And machdude, I appreciate the fact that you enjoy this piece, but like luna said, no need to put others down for it and plus, I think there are a LOT of other artists here on AP who could do a much better job than this, since I'm really not that good. But thanks, I'm glad you liked it enough to comment :)
goddamnit.. I hate these smileys <__<

Ogure Ito? Bad example >_>
I agree with you however it isn't perfect and yes Artist I see that you see that as well. But I would like to throw in a small critique question here. In what way does the title have anything to do with the picture? I know its pretty subjective but the picture sends out a "relax" message more than a "breath" message. You even had here close her eyes and seem more meditative. Its really subjective so it isn't really that big. I'm kinda after the picture title relation here so its best to hear what the artist had in mind for it to get it answered. Oh, perhaps someone out there might say "relax" incurrs "breathing" my immediate response to that is - Those are two different things and represent each other differently. You can say they go together but you cannot say its the same thing. Kinda tactless myself right now aren't I but my curiosity got the better of me. I post this because the act of breathing here does not seem to be in focus because its not the apparent thing going on by means of the message the picture conveys. A very subjective point but it is something considered in competitions.

I'd say its not perfect but to put something as specific as not "professionally good"? I'd say thats a wee bit off there. I know I can be tactless at times but that kinda hits the mark right there. I'm pretty sure by all the comments I read here most people got what you said Machdude but be more careful... There are those that would flame ye for that. Besides, I have seen "proffessional" work that isn't in any way as good as this therefore that is indeed a biased statement there.

Hahah.. the act of breathing.. so scientific aren't we X] Actually when I started it, this was just a random scrap that I never intended to finish, and thought would end up piled on my hd somewhere like 99% of my drawings. Soo.. the title was pretty random because I was listening to the song Far Away by Nickelback at the time and I caught the line "stop breathing if I don't see you anymore", so I just stole the word "breathe" from there because it sounded fitting and I couldn't stop thinking of it. But in a way, titling it "Breathe"... often when someone draws specific attention to that word, I think of someone taking deep breaths, with their eyes closed and letting their mind wander to someplace far off, maybe to some paradise we could never see on Earth.
I'm not sure if any of you got this, but behind her.. the white area is upside-down clouds.. so if you look at the picture upside-down, they should look like regular cumulus clouds. It's kind of like.. how do I explain.. she's wading in warm water, closing her eyes, taking a deep breath, and all of a sudden she's dreaming of wandering through the heavens, hence the clouds... but they're upside down because I wanted to make it seem like they could also have been a reflection on the water.. so it's like.. almost coinciding realities I guess. I didn't want to title it something like "dream" because I feel the word is overused, and if I did use it, it would have to be for something of substantially better quality than something I made on a whim. Then again, it's not something that I gave THAT much thought to.. so.. yeah.
And uh.. I don't think I intend to enter any competitions soon.. I had planned to enter some random online ones on dA before but nothing ever came out of it because I just got lazy in the end. The only one I've ever finished was the W.A.R. competition at minitokyo because I told them I was committed to it so I would have felt bad if I let them down by not actually doing anything :X
Anyway, thanks so much for your comment and curiosity.. it was a really interesting question to answer :) though I probably bored you out of your mind with my response :D

You've given your drawing a personal flair and touch that says 'This is what I can do'. Never mind that 'not professionally good' comment. All I can say is that 'imperfection is also good'. Just look at Initial D! The art is horrible, yet it went mainstream and people love it! (not to say your art is horrible, oh no, it's quite the opposite!)
I'm curious what progs you used to make the effects. I really loving the watery blue background! But the best thing about this drawing is the hair and the skin colouring! Soft and lush yet not too much! ^_^
Keep up the good work!
Shadow: I made this picture using openCanvas 4.06E Plus... you can dl a trial version of this program from www.portalgraphics.net
and the effects... if you mean the glowing water effects.. I just drew the glowing stuff on an addition layer and then I blurred and duplicated the layer :D Anyway, thanks a lot, glad you like it :)

i think that the coloring is very nice.. very soothing and the look of water is very nice.. i find that hard to duplicate.. the only thing that kinda bugs me is the arm on the right side.. it seems.. odd? like the bottom half is kinda too thin or something.. and since the hand is hiding in the fold of the dress it seems a little like you're hiding it b/c you can't draw a hand rather then it being on purpose.. lol.. also the eyelashes are looking a bit more "furry" then .. lashy to me.. lol..
but still.. very beautiful and i love it.. and surely better then my digital paintings! lol
p.s. just thought i'd throw out that you felt that possibly using the title "dream" is so overused.. but you can also say the very same thing about feathers :P especially b/c feathers like that wouldn't be seen while you're in the ocean.. and with that thought, you may brainstorm on a more integrated idea that can invoke the same thing that floating feathers do, but more unique. :)
