Anyone watch Avatar?

Does anyone here follow Nickelodeon's Avatar? Do you think it's an "anime" or some kind of anime ripoff?
I didn't watch it at all the first season, thinking it was just an anime imitation and I shouldn't bother. But I started following it and it's actually not that bad for a non-Japanese animated series - they did their homework well at Nickelodeon. Of course it's aimed at a fairly young audience and developed within the constraints of the North American broadcast regulations, so fans of ecchi, yaoi, etc won't get any kicks from it. I love the way they're developing Zuko's character, but then I always like the sympathetic villian type, no matter what the series... If you like quest series aimed at younger audiences you should check it out, it's not bad!

(I really like the fire prince fighting style and his uncle has great humour)
Tell a bit about the story!!

"Avatar: The Last Airbender" is a kid's show on Nickelodeon, currently in its second season. The basic premise is there are four elements; Earth, Air, Water, and Fire. Each nation (element) bends (controls) the element in its own way, but one person, the Avatar, can bend all of them. It is the Avatar who keeps peace in the world, but the previous avatar, Aang, disappeared 100 years earlier, causing the Fire Nation to wage war on the others. He's found, frozen in an iceberg, by Katara and Sokka from the Southern Water Tribe, and they're on a quest to help him learn all four elements to take on the fire nation.
Phew, that was longer than I meant it to be! But yeah, I definitely watch and love Avatar. I'm a little behind on it, but I love it all the same. It just got picked up for a third season, and I'm stoked. Everyone should watch it -- it's really enrapturing ^_^

I've only seen a few episodes and even though it's for younger audiences I like it. I like the way they control the elements and the cities that are built based upon their element. I wish I could watch more, but I always miss the show times.

I enjoy the show. It has to be one of the few that actually has a story which flows chronologically over the span of the season.
While it might appear to rip off the anime style, I think it was more of mix between the two.

I like it,it's certainly impressive..considering that it's not an anime.:3
I actually really like it. But they keep showing reruns so, its been a a while since I've watched it. I might start having to downloading it once I'm all caught up with the Naruto series

Lol, I remebered when I first saw it, the king of...i think its like omiush? or something, but he was "earth Bending" and i turned to my brother and said "Holy crap! its Garras grandad!" and i love how all the "bending" are achaly fighting stances. They have great voice actors(Zuko's voice actor is Rufeo from Hook why back when for those who remeber it) , and they have great chearter devolpment. it hard for me to watch them as they come out, so I buy them as they come out (and the cover art on the dvds art great). I dont know if it anime but its much too good to be classafide as a amarican cartoon, so i gess it falls to the role of anime ^_^
Avatar seems really cool I like it, but I don't watch it that much. I don't think it's a rip-off, but I know it's one of those American animes where they put their own kind of humor, and situations. If it was real anime there would have more intimate moments like accidental stuff llike: OPS I CAUGHT YOU NAKED. and stuff like that. And stuff happens repeatedly likesame thing every time just different people and stuff. But I kinda was talking about Martin Mystery and Totally Spies. I don't watch Avatar enough to say that it does those things. But if it does I guess that I can tell fake from real anime even it the opening's Japanese.^.^
I've watched Avatar a few times before. It's pretty good, the characters are so cute and funny. My sis likes to watch it on nickelodeon.
I like it. The fight scenes are pretty cool. I also like prince zuko's character.

I watched the entire first season but keep forgetting to watch on Fridays. So I have to download season 2 episodes online. I agree that it is a sort of anime ripoff. It wasn't made by Japanese people, but the animation and general feel reeks of anime. It's what a call a psuedo-anime series. A sort of fake, wanna-be anime. Teen Titans is another good example of this. That show portrays many cliche anime expressions and such, like the popping/twitching vein and use of Jrock.

Sometimes I fail to understand why people are so against the sharing and promoting of a different style. So it borrows a lot of the animation qualities/expressions from Japanese animation however it definitely has a Chinese flair and background with American production qualities and dialogue/voice actors. While borrowing a lot from simplistic Japanese animation/drawing techniques it is still very unique.
After the art style Avatar loses all similiarities to 'Anime'. The story is original with western ideals and morals with a tinge of Chinese background/family interactions. Characters are global; you probably have met people like them in your everyday life who do not watch/worship Anime. Music is a combination of eastern and western influences. It was rather short-sighted to assume that this was taking entirely from Japan when you forgot all of the other Asian countries this might've borrowed from.
So... I don't know where you're drawing your conclusions and how it generally 'reeks of anime'. If anything it's reminiscent of a wholesome story with morals while keeping people entertained with comedy, action and constant character development.

I watch it now and then. Altough it is , as said here before, not a real anime it still is pretty cool and funny. the fact that it is different from normal anime styles make it a bit more accessible for a bigger audience. it might even make some children turn to "the real deal" as they get older.. In my opinon it is just a nice show that might have a bit more to it then it seems..the techniques with the elements and the fighting styles are really nice to watch as they incoperate some wushu moves in it, wich makes them look realistic and ofcourse flashy and gangsta..lol..^^
