Maybe you could try placing him inside a square.
Also, try making his color look a little closer to the other tans and browns.
Like keep it on a squareish basis. :P
and remove those circle thingies as well..

You need more design elements in the bg, not just some random brushes. the scan looks like it could be cleaned more and i don't like that he's hiding in the corner like that. we need to see more of him.

I would have to agree the image would work better if you used a few more design eliments. a 3D render would be a nice effect or maybe an interface look for the scan and BG

Background and scan quality is also very fuzzy, usually, you don't want a character to fade out like that either.
The border around some sides are not vvery pleasing..
try a different, more appealing yellow than that..one...
