I'm sure someone has probably posted this but........the Ruroni Kenshin Manga.....has ended 28 volumes strong. oh well
Its a great series I liked the ending and all I have them all im proud that I have this series complete
I like everythin about this series..too bad I wasn't able to complete it. I watched the anime version of it though
I have the entire series as well, there are two omakes though. one omake about yahiko is in this month's issue of shonen jump. the other in ruroni kenshin guidebook # 2. read them if you want to. also the anime movie Samurai X: reflections finishes up the series, even though it's really depressing.

YUP. it ended in volume 28 which is far better than the OAV since it is more detailed from the start. plus, the ending is more specific of every character and did not focus only in kenshin and kaoru. it's always like that, manga are better than the anime

Its a shame the anime ended because of the filers. Kenshin was one of my favourite mangas, but I never liked the main character, saito is the man.

Yes, volumes 18 to 28 should have been filmed instead IMO,... what were the creators thinking? I mean the fights, that were displayed in the Enishi-arc would have looked spectacular, if all of it was ever being filmed.
The Shiro Amakusa filler arc in the anime was pretty good imo, too bad the last arc in the manga wasn't in the anime. i think the anime ended with the feng sui arc which imo, was pretty bad because there was no main bad guy of some sort.

IMO the manga is superb and I agree that 's a pity not having filmed the Enishi arc properly... Also the manga made me understand completely what was going on and how all the arcs connected to each other giving a flowing result and justifying the final outcome.
I really enjoyed the manga to it's fullest. I even wrote a short review on it. I'll go ahead and post it here.
I can see where the hype is from. After all, I read all of the manga in a week. It's like crack; you get hooked, my grades sort of suffered (from A to A-, literally, not like that makes a difference...). It's a great manga. And from what I hear of the anime, the anime kicks ass, too. Everyone by now should've heard of Kenshin and know what it's about. Or a little bit of what it's about. So why should I give a plot summary if everyone knows what the heck it's about? XD
A man's atonement. His suffering. It's a sad, sad story, but at least Watsuki had the smarts to put in a ton of humor along with the seriousness and drama through it all. The story, to me, was kind of complicated, with many military factions, governmental alliances, and stuff like that. But throughout the confusion, it's the characterization that shines through the most.
Take the goofball Sanosuke for example. His fists fly faster than his mind. But his character really shines through in volume 26, where he meets his family again, in particular, his father. At first, Sano's the guy who followed the leader of a rebel group and the leader was beheaded, so Sano has been looking up to him since. But, it's not his past that made him shine. I particularly enjoyed that he at least showed some compassion to his sister, especially the part when their dad was going to fight that sumo dude alone.
Uki: (crying) "Dad's not home!"
Sano: "Hey, calm down. Is he at the restroom or something like that?"
Uki: "No, he can't be! He always tells me where he goes!
That I won't cry like I cried when my older brother left us!"
Sano: (!) "... Don't cry! Don't worry, I'll bring your dad back!"
The realization that she was crying when he left the family ten years ago makes it all the more important. He doesn't want to cause his family pain like he did before. And what made it worse was that just a couple pages before, he thought the family was doing fine without him, so he attempted to leave a second time to fight alone.
Sigh.
I feel almost every character that deserved some sort of background was given a sufficient and thorough characterization. I really feel like I'll make a separate page on characters alone. ><
It's the poignant areas like these that make Kenshin, Kenshin. Soujirou's tragic past and Kenshin's response. Kenshin's past and his unwillingness to be a hitokiri. Enishi's downfall, in particular, his reason for revenge, because he cannot protect his sister. Sanosuke meeting his dad. All of this always had some line that makes you gasp, maybe pause in the rhythm of madly flipping pages, and make you think. Or just reread the whole page once more like I do.
Anyway... too much on story, I can get too carried away with that alone. Art. The later volumes like the 20+'s were spectacular. Although the fight scenes were blurry and confusing, does it look like it matters? Really, it's the outcome that counts. Early on the art was kind of lame and normal, but through experience, I guess, Watsuki really make each character look sharp and awesome.
And the theme. At least, the way I interpreted it was exactly what Kenshin was searching for. That exact line was what I was thinking all along. Of course I won't give it away here! You must read it to fully understand it's meaning. You won't regret either. It's an excellent manga, no matter what the length, and I suggest everyone should give it a spin. It's reputation was deserved. So all those Kenshin haters really don't have a reason to hate because it's popular. The manga was golden.

IMO, yes, you made a mistake taking the series. you should just get the 3 OAV and then forget about the series and get the complete manga.

Well Seasons 1 and 2 from Episodes 1-60 are IMO the ones that follow the storyline the closest,... I guess Episodes like the Circuis-cram and the Sumo-guys were filler episodes, I don't know for sure, because I never read the Manga-versions 1-17,... I bought the Mangas 18-28... because by previewing it in my local comic-store in Germany, I immidiately fell in love with the storyline. So I saved all my money to boy the last 10 Manga-volumes.
Well the ending between in the Manga is totally different from the whole Anime-series and the last OVA...:
SPOILER (click to view)
IMO it's okay to have both, the Manga and the Anime-block,... if you have enough money to afford it...
The Kanshin OVA's 1-4 are told in between Mangas 18-28, somewhere near the beginning, I don't remember correctly 'cause I didn't bring my Mangas to Thailand where I currently live...
The kenshin OVA's are good, but the manga is better.(and funnier) the final OVA does not appear in manga, so that's the best one to buy.
