As an animation, Bakemonogatari has a simple, clean art style. But the guest illustrations for the series are anything but simple! So, it's great to see that °Tens took on a more complex illustration and made it his own with vector gradients so fine at points it more resembles painting that vectoring. Do have a look at this beautiful wallpaper!

Sorry for the Avril song insult.

Question:

Why do most foreign otaku (weeaboo) act like fucking retards, while the japanese otaku seem to be somewhat mannered, and not annoying as shit while in public?

For example, I was in akiba last year, minding my own business, when all of a sudden a group of 10-15 gaijin appear about 3 blocks away, and I can hear them shouting "MAID CAFE!! LETS GO GUIEZ!! OMG NARUTO! I NEED TO GET MY HEADBAND!! I LOVE SASUKE!" etc, etc.

The thing I hate the most about weeaboo is not that they like Japanese stuff, but the fact that most seem to be unbelievably immature.

copy pasta from 4ch

I will say this one thing, I am one such person who likes anime like it is a definite part of my life, I cannot don't browse anime or watch any for one day, in fact, I even carry it on my Ipod.

That said, I am a good 25 year old individual who works as a supervisor at a training center, I earn quite aplenty, and I do not really have any mind of sharing my pleasures with others, as long as they ask me what I like, I will openly admit to anime, cartoons, and artwork in general (dousing my power level with quotes like Da Vinci) just in case people go... "oh, so like... you are into Japanese animated porn?!"

I also have a not so active social life, although I don't go to the extent of staying at home with figurines and DVDs, I do however, keep a good collection, and since my job includes convo with clients and training, I have no choice but again, to supress power levels.

I am not as annoyed over the issue of anyone being loud of their culture, in fact, I wholesomely approve it, but I would only hope they can get satisfaction, for themselves, in view of how they can be annoying towards others.

TL DR, I am otaku, power level supressed, work, don't hate etc.

So are you doing your bit to be an over-excited Narutard today? (sorry)
Are you going round your block asking your similiarly tasted friends to go "Jutsu" on the playground with your plastic knifes and shurikens? Are you out there screaming out your power levels over 9000? (dragon ball related)

This is an interesting topic!

I'm extremely good at suppressing my power level, personally. I do like anime a lot, and I have some anime pins on my purse, but I'm calm about it and I don't talk about it with people that have no interest. I'm a little bit different at anime conventions, but even then I'm fairly calm, and I always ask permission before I take pictures of cosplayers, etc.

I used to be a lot like the people you described, though. When I was younger, I would take Pokemon plushies to the park with my friends, and pretend to have Pokemon battles while loudly yelling "GO, PIKACHU!" and stuff like that. I think it's okay for children to do that, though... I'm 21 years old now, though, so I wouldn't do that anymore.

That's why I don't enjoy anime cons. They are full of teens (and adults) behaving like sugar-rushed 5 years old. It's a hobby, dammit, not a visa for la la land.

The reason they act like that is the same reason why masses of 16-year-old girls gather in a group and talk about Facebook, who's hottest between Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, who they did last night, or any topic for that matter: fitting in a group.

When weeaboos, not otaku, weeaboos, act like that, it's because they want to feel "speshul" for being part of a sub-culture, with shamelessness being an essential ingredient of this group. Strip them off their peers, and they won't act like that. It's proven that idiots do not act like idiots when they are alone.

I admit that even though I really enjoy anime and misc., I don't go pushing it into people, unless they are people who are like me, and won't mind the pushing. Piss someone off a bit too much, and you'll end up beaten up in a back-alley of an unknown place.

The worst representation of a group is usually the loudest.

I used to be somewhat obnoxious about anime (I think a lot of people go through that stage), but I've matured and I respect those around me, and I can understand the annoyance. Some of my friends haven't really realized yet that some of their behavior isn't exactly appropriate. You can like and talk about anime/manga/whatever, just use your indoor voices when doing so, and respect those around you.

(I hope that you didn't equate this to LARPing. Sorry to assume, it just sort of came off that way.)

I've always been quiet, reserved, almost anti-social in some cases before I actually got into anime, so I've never had problems with this. I'll let you guys in on something: I hate loud people with a passion. All my classmates that chat a lot even during a lecture or when someone else is talking annoys the crap outta me. In my eyes all they want is attention and can't support themselves unless they've got someone to turn to. You leave them alone and they go bonkers. Having said that, I can't imagine myself behaving like a loud-mouth in the middle of Akiba yelling out stuff about anime in english, it's just...embarrassing.

There was a thread where a rant was posted from another blog or website about a guy who hated anime fans, and the main reason was basically the obnoxiousness some of them are. There're a lot of anime fans/otakus at the university I go to, and it's pretty difficult to spot them unless you catch them reading manga or watching anime on their laptops. that's alright, it's when people start yapping about it everyday in class that bothers me, and just about everyone else. It's like owning a honda civic, ricing it, and bragging it to everyone you see. It's like owning an iPod and bragging about how you can watch videos and the hard drive size in it.

In the end, the reason why people do that is because they need attention and want popularity. If they have to be loud and for a good reason then so be it, but if you want attention, find some other way of making a name for yourself.

I actually haven't encountered such people before, but I can tell that they'll probably be annoying, the way you guys mention about them. Thankfully, I'm sane, though I like anime like most of you guys, and I know when to draw the line. Perhaps these kinds of people are attention seeking losers? Perhaps, but if it keeps them happy, let them be. I just hope they keep their enthusiasm about their interests down when around normal people..

Only idiots who don't know when to do such a thing.

I remember there was a video of a kid; the most immature one, Wearing a Naruto headband and "using" jutsus on passing people. If I were his friend, I won't talk to him in eternity.

It's still okay if you're just 5-10 year-old kids who love Naruto but 12 above wearing a headband in a Plaza and ranting jutsus? Outta my book.

I do have some Naruto-maniac friends in my class. They do rant some of the jutsus but it's when they're joking in the class during recess. I don't mind since it'll make things more livelier (they never done it outside class). Some of my brother's friends even actually done a Sannengoroshi at their classmate but it's never been serious. It's usually to see someone overreacted when their favorite manga/anime's already out. It's just like a fan's reaction on Britney Spears's new album or saw real-life Tom Hanks hanging around. Just don't wear a Naruto headband or swinging an imitation Zanpakuto in public.

Oh... i can control my behavior in expressing my otakuness..
however i don't seem to like people that are weeaboo...
it is almost like cosplay...
a very good one is like a very beautiful girl dressing like misa amane...
a very, very, very bad one is like a man with wrinkles dressing like lacus clyne...
(try imagine it in you head)....eeeyuuu...
thats is why sometimes i get annoyed when people try to talk japanese words but doesn't say it right...
there is also some cases where they just say it in word where they get from an anime and think that is the coolest words and think to themselves "man do i say it right" ...

LOL @<@)7 I used to waste a lot of my energy being annoyed by youngin's, hehe. They're just kids that don't know any better, they'll grow out of it eventually. They make the otaku culture look bad with their hyper-fanatical lack of self-awareness/sensible decorum, but it doesn't mean they're bad people, just socially awkward. A bit of pity, a bit of patience, meh, they'll come around.

Well props to OP, some of those people may have read this topic and calmed themselves...or not?
I went to high school with a bunch of these people. They were usually in my art class goofing around and attempting to draw anime. They were in my japanese class too, but I never talked to them. I dunno, maybe its because im asian but I pronounced the japanese lanugage better than they did. I even got an award for "Achievement in Japanese" (not trying to show off, sorry)
Another thing was, majority of them were overweight, so that kinda shows how much they care about appearence. Not that Im saying you should care what other people think but daym control yourself!

It is pretty annoying. I'm not even an otaku so it especially annoys me. I dislike how everyone gets into it so much. And you're right, its a hobby, its not like a life choice as they think it is. I think they need to get out of their own little world and experience life the right way. There's a time and a place to act crazy and I guess its more appropriate at a convention but of course its still annoying. Just try to ignore them. They need to get a life. >.>

OMG there were so many fukken Naruto weeaboos at my university that I was thinking "my god this is funny." but when I saw the same idiots skipping class and studying the naruto hand movements instead of the actual school work, I promised myself that I'll stride harder to become less involved in such activities by myself or with others...funny thing is, im a gun-owning, labor working, anime watching, rebublican artist...I dunno how that happen. Also im more likley to wear a shirt that says "HK" than "Cowboy bebop"...eww animu shirts!

Hey yeah everybody! Let's get on the bandwagon and be hatin' on people who don't act the way we want them to! Because of course, unlike us, they're losers who should get a life. XP

...Speaking of which, I'm writing on an anime forum about how I'm annoyed with people that don't meet my definition of normal. Yap yap, I could be looking for the cure for cancer or volunteering at a homeless shelter, but lord knows sharing my annoyance is constructive and top priority... Double XP

I believe showing otaku-ness should be kept to the otaku group only. When otakus get too uncontrolled they tend to become loud, and it actually disrupts public peace. From what I know about otaku, they are generally people who are not loud because their hobby makes the 'common' folk look at them in a somewhat negative light. Those yelling idiots are not otaku. They are just extroverts. Real otaku carry themselves proudly that they love anime, game and manga. They don't shriek about it, but when commoners laugh at them they stand firm about the fact that they are otaku and they are proud of what they become. IMO. I'm the only otaku in the entire clasroom. The rest are the brad pitt, porn and cars people. It don't effect me one bit because I am me. No one's opinion can change that.
