I have no idea, my friend's about to build a new computer using a 9800 (not sure which version) but after he builds it and plays some games on it then I can get his feedback.
The 9800 GTX is a decent card, it runs about as well as it's price indicates. My gripe with the card is that it is not much faster than the 8800GTX, infact it is slower at high levels of AA and AF due to it's smaller memory bus width. Actually, the 9800GX2 suffers from the same problem, small memory bus width.
I can pretty confidently say the 8800GTX is still the fastest card out there at high levels of AA and AF because it has the widest memory bus of the fast cards out there. And lets be honest here, why would you buy a high end card if you didn't want AA and AF on?

Cabal has sick graphics? haha, what games have you been playing if you think Cabal looks good.
Anyways yeah I have a 9600GT and kinda hate it because of the retarded fan issue where the fan speed will drop to about 25% RPM when it reaches 60*C, pretty much failing any overclocks.
Im going to be getting a ThermalTake DuOrb soon because the stock HSF is just crap.
The week I bought the 9600GT, the 9800GTX came out...and it was about $150 more. I was actually about to return my 9600GT because of the fan issue, but the 9800GTX also has this stupid problem. If this isnt fixed soon, Im going to sell this card and go back to ATI when they release their HD 4000 series cards.

DAMN it is hard to read what you just wrote, maybe lay of the emots a little man.
Anyways, the 9800 is the fastest GPU, but it is implemented poorly. If they released a version of the card wiuth a memory bus of 384 or 512 it would be the fastest graphics card, but it doesn't. The only implementation of the 9800 chips are on cards with 256biut memory bus which kills performace at high levels of aa and af. Thats where the 8800GTX and ULTRA wins out, they both havd 384bit wide memory bus and out performs the 9800 cards.

Yeah, I heard that it wasn't all that much better than the 8800... you'd probably be better off just buying an 8800 instead of paying the extra couple hundred.
Hmm i have to invest in a new VGA.
the 8800GTS just aint cutting it for me anymore i love my games hehe

what in the world are you playing? that is a very powerfull video card, pretty much as good as you are going to get. It is most likely someoyther component in your computer is holding you back.
I recommende that you dont buy it atleast now.News has it that a new version 9900 is gonna be released in 2 months or so!.So i'd rather wait then buy this now and suffer later cause its not cheap now is it.I'd rather buy an 8800 GT/GTX and then later upgrade it.Or just totally wait for it ^^
Agreed

IF there is a user of this card, please write down the power consumption. I wasn't able to find any data. If its not too much, then I should really think about getting 2 for an SLI based PC. (No I'm not gaming, just running an X.org + KDE , .. but I want to 'max-out' my PC to keep it away from upgrading for years..thats why..) Thanks afterwards.

What is x.org and kde? My brief google seems to simply tell me it is a os, why do you need such a powerful setup? More over, it is generally more econimical to upgrade as you go instead of building a beast straight from the start.
You had to Google that?
Either way, I agree with the wtf-sentiment on an 8800GTS not being enough, unless you're gaming on a 24 or 30" flat panel. Either way, Nvidia is in a position where they can release a card they know will only appeal to enthusiasts safely, because right now, they pretty much own the market and AMD/ATI would have to pull off something almost inconceivable to change that.

I don't mean to start a fight in the forums but do you have a beef with me or something? I find that statement rude and un-necessary. If you don't care to respond in a constractive manner (like "X.org is ____ and KDE is ___ and that user most likely wants a powerful computer because those do ___") please just omit answering to it. I think it is in everyone's interest to keep discussion in the forums civilized.
This coming from someone who said:
I said it because for someone who claims to know their stuff, you don't seem to actually demonstrate it much. All of the posts you've made that I've read have had an air of bullshit about them, and I haven't said anything until recently, and I'm not going to bother to continue to do so because you'll just post your half-right tripe in reply. I don't hold grudges online - I treat posts by intelligent people and idiots with the same level of impartiality when making my replies. It's just that the idiots that think I'm coming down hard on them.
As a note if you can't read between the lines: I'm not calling you an idiot (at least not directly); just that if you're going to talk down onto people like you did in that quoted passage only to have them prove you wrong later in the thread and then you go on to ignore it, perhaps you should re-evaluate how much you actually think you know and start posting accordingly.
Again, I can only assume you posted your comments because you do not work in the semiconductor industry, then the comments would make sense, but in truth the semiconductor and microprocessor industry is very complex, don't make assumptions
