As an animation, Bakemonogatari has a simple, clean art style. But the guest illustrations for the series are anything but simple! So, it's great to see that °Tens took on a more complex illustration and made it his own with vector gradients so fine at points it more resembles painting that vectoring. Do have a look at this beautiful wallpaper!

I have a few vectors in PS still, and wanna finish them.

~NosVII 58 minutes ago
Aki, are you going to use inkscape aswell?

`akiranyo 1 hour 18 minutes ago
Hahaha. I hate that site. A bunch of anonymous people who think that can do anything what they want.

Q: Why do people use 4chan? I watched it once, but I nearly turned blind.

`akiranyo 1 hour 39 minutes ago
Thnx. Only 1 will be selected tough, and maybe mine :P

~NosVII 1 hour 40 minutes ago
Well you can use mine aswell

Hi all.

So, I made my first wallpaper for AP. It is about Zegapain, a new anime.
I used a screen capture from a 1280x720 raw divx. I followed some tutorials for extracting, cleaning, special FX,... And here comes the first version.

I have some troubles with the edges : the green color from the capture remains unchanged, and I need your advices on how to properly remove (or clean) it. Next problem : quality... it is divx, I know some parts remain pixelized : Sogoru's hair is a great example. Once again, I need comments and ideas :)

Here are the images :
The capture.

Well....first of all....that black thing should dissapear inmediatly, never is a good idea to do that, it breaks the whole concept.....
second of all....the extraction is not really good, looks poxelated in someplaces (remember to use the pen tool when extracting) and some parts you can see part of the old bg.....
the new bg i way to much like the old one....the same color, and is too simple...
you should keep the scan, extract it again (this time with the pen tool, look for a tutorial about it if you don't know how) but try to make another bg, more interesting.....and get rid of that black part, and get rid of the lens flare too =P...

when i see the scan makes me wanna vectorize it....maybe you should try, but that's up to you...

good luck!

I'm not familiar with vectorizing (?) but I'll have a look at it tonight :)

Lol your avatar is freakin hilarious! ;P

i also suggest you vector, it's intimidating at first but it's actually quite easy. i don't have the link anymore but i learnt from a tutorial on deviantart.

here's a good tutorial for extraction and cleaning:

http://www.imanimetions.net/tutorial/tutorial.php?view=clean

i'll wait to see a new version before giving a detailed critique. good luck! :)

So...

I've vectorized Sogoru :) I used Adobe Illustrator to do this part, after having some headache caused by Photoshop >_<

Now, here is the vectorized part. There's no background nor art, but I just want your comments about what I could have to correct on this work.

I think I have to work a little bit on the eyes : see those gray parts, going over the black and white ones, do I have to play again with them ?

Thanks ;)

Well, nice job, first of all.
next, the hardest part of vectoring...imho is the lines...lol..that's why i didn't add in the lines for my first vector wall. but you made a good choice to go for it! and well, now you have to fix them up a bit.

At some places, the lines just end there. make sure you have a thin trailing off sort of ending.

At other places, the lines are misplaced and shows gaps between value and value.

Awesome job for first try!

C: good luck!

Yes you're right, I'm fixing them step by step just now :)

Here is the vector v2 :)

I removed the gaps, corrected some outlining errors, and changed to a bevel shaped brush that gives a better look (in my opinion).

See the result here :

Please tell me if there are gaps I didn't see, cause I had a few problems with this f*** brush that messed up my work at the beggining >_<

Now I'm looking for a proper background. A kind of tech-like one, I suppose.

EDIT : Smthg I wanted to ask : do you think the wall size would be better if Wild Screen ? Or should I find a way to get something up and down sogoru ?

Yeah! Here goes the first final version :D

I told you I was planing to make a tech-like BG. But I wanted to try something before.
The wall is 1280x960, and I had a lot of fun drawing the missing parts of Sogoru with my mouse XD I kinda like the result.
I had a break and watched again the first episode of Zegapain. And then I had my idea. I saw this :

User posted image

I found it quite beautiful. But I didn't want to vectorize again :D So I created my own mirrors, my own sky, took some city caps from High Res video, arranged them and here it is.

User posted image

I had some problems with Illustrator, and wasn't able to export to photoshop format. Too sad, cause it prevented me from adjusting some details in the background, like the mirrors blur, etc...

I also thought about the title. and I found a great one. "Virtualité réelle". Yeaah, it's french, but it kinda r0x, doesn't it ? XD
In english it means "Real Virtuality".

Now I want your comments, what could I improve/change/think about before I submit it.

Great thanks ;)
