Tokyopop, Viz, or DelRey?
Tokyopop has Chobits, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Love Hina. Viz has NARUTO, One Piece, Ouran High School Host Club, and Full Moon wo Sagashite. DelRey has Negima!: Magister Negi Magi, School Rumble, and Pichi Pichi Pitch: Mermaid Melody. Which company do you like most and dislike most? Why? I like DelRey the most because they have great translation notes that help me a lot sometimes. I think the extra dollar is worth it! I dislike Viz the most because even though they have Ouran High (one of my most favorite manga) they do a lot of things with translation that I don't like (like lack of honorifics).
I have a variety of manga from different companies.
Mostly because I go by the stories (not company names) when I want to buy a series.
However, I do think (out of all the manga I have read ^__^;) the best translations come from DelRey :D
I love how they keep things really close to the actual translation and always have cultural explanations at the back.
It really helps you to understand the Japanese culture.
Also, I love how they keep the endings on people's names (like -san or -chan) ^_^
Tokyopop has a bad rep for brutalizing manga. I remember long ago when I first was getting into it, (with Sailor Moon :P)
they changed the names were changed like in the dubbed anime, so you can imagine all the cultural references that would have been lost.
They even used to flip the manga so it was read the "american" way.
--But I love how they now keep it authentic :D
They have made more improvements too, and they don't do a terrible job..
Lets just hope they follow in DelRey's footsteps :)
So often when you are dreaming of reading an unlicensed manga you can only pray that a good company will be the ones to scoop it up and do it justice.
O!
It is also stinky when different companies grab a hold of a mangaka's series, when one of their other series have already been released by a different company.
Like with Arina Tanemura: when Full Moon o Sagashite was already released by VIZ, and CMX mangawas talking about releasing Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne.
I was terrified when CMX got the rights to KKJ and they were going to americanize the title to "Phantom Thief Jeanne"
- luckily there was wide protest on their company forum

Well, I suppose I'd noramally say I like Viz the most since the majority of my titles are released by Viz. However, as was stated, Viz does have a tendency to make edits and changes I don't agree with... a lot. As far as integrity goes, I'd probably go with Dark Horse. I understand that companies need to make edits and changes to appeal to the mass market (though that does NOT excuse CMX from butchering Tenjou Tenge), but there are somethings that should just be left alone. No company is perfect though.

I would say that tokyopop is the most popular manga deliverer for the most of the people even i (i´m from german) know it, but i don´t know the other two

Yes yes ^_^ we also have tokyopop here in germany. Other puplishers are EMA and Carlsen...
Well German Manga...let's not talk about them :D
As for the English I think DelRey does a very good job. VIZ may have the bestsellers like Naruto, One Piece etc. but I don't like them too much. Actually of all English publishers I like "Drama Queen" the most since they do a beautiful job with their manga.
In general I'll stay with French manga. They are cheaper than english or german ones and still very beautifully done. They're the most like the Japanese ones.

I'd have to say tokyopop translations are pretty bad. i remember one of my most beloved series, Petshop of Horrors, being totally ripped apart to the core by these guys. i have read that series in chinese, and boy, it's like reading a completely different story in english. i was so offended and disappointed.
i like viz, actually... although, yeah, some translations weren't correct, but it's like heaven compared to tokyopop. =_=

I get a lot of manga from ADV Films ever since they had the title for Steel Angel Kurumi and Full Metal Panic. Other than that, most of my manga comes from Tokyopop and Del Rey (especially now I've discovered Negima!) Viz Media LLC is pretty good. I'd have to say I like ADV best and then Tokyopop and Del Rey.
I like Viz. Partly because a lot of the series (the ones from Shonen Jump, which is a part of Viz) are cheaper. XD I think Tokyopop has the most series, but I don't like their translations. I like DelRay, too, but I've only ever read about three series published by them. Their translation notes are really handy, too.
Another publisher I can think of is CMX, with series such as Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne and The Devil Does Exist (Akuma de Sourou). I don't think their translations are bad, either.

Viz and Tokyopop. I only occasionally buy something from Del Rey

This was awhile ago, but Kodansha used to do Bilingual comics, where the actual japanese company released manga in english (with Japanese on the sides) - they were awesome, but they've since stopped doing it. I dislike Viz and Tokoyopop, unfortunately they have some of the most popular titles. They're translations are pretty bad (I'm not so sure about Tokyopop anymore, since I've stopped buying their manga). Del Rey is alright, the notes are nice, but I find that sometimes the English translation doesn't flow as much as I'd like it to.

I'd probably go w/Delray.
I HATE TOkyopop. Especially after they butchered Ikkitousen. I know the series didn't have anything deep regarding story, but when the characters say stupid crap like ebonics, I can't help but question the translators. It's so bad, and it's one of the many reasons why Japanese manga > translated manga.

I go for all three. My manga collection comprises all three manga brands. But i mainly only like Del Rey for the Negima series.

Viz Media, because they have the mangas I want to buy, for example, Tenjou Tenge and Bleach. But, if I find any other manga I would like, I wouldn't care about who's the one who licensed them, I'm still going to get them. But I find that Viz Media manga's are well-done, and look neat.

Last I heard, they were editting the Tenjo Tenghe manga by taking out all the nudity and replacing it with a bunch of crappy add-ons like bras and panties. I don't prefer nude, but I do prefer originality. Not some lame add on to cover up explicitness.
