This wallpaper gives us a perfect example of how a simple manga scan can be turned into a beautiful vector. Not only did danalm trace the lineart, but he also added amazing details and a simple, yet wonderful background. Furthermore, the wallpaper shows us how the monochromatic style can make your work look really interesting.

It's Toaru Majutsu no Index. It's pretty popular,it's just airing now, and it's only had 13 episodes come out and it already has 4 wallpapers.

I'd have to say Tokyopop. I get most of my favourite manga so it'd be my first choice. The others I haven't seen much of in my bookstore so I wouldn't from them.

Viz has a lot of known titles that interest me, they publish Shonen Jump, their titles are the most economical books available so far but their printing quality is decent and their translations sometimes are a "hit or miss" case, using a lot of english slangs and other things that make the dialogue sound too strange.

Tokyopop has more obscure titles than Viz, their printing quality is superior to Viz', as well as their translations. Two of my favorites (Ai Yori Aoshi and Fruits Basket) are published by them. Price is reasonable.

Del Rey has such an excellent quality in their impressions, and their translations are the best and more serious of the 3 publishers, and even though their books are the most expensive, they have overall more quality. My biggest complain is that they only have 2 really good titles (Negima and xxxHolic), and the rest are too "bleh...".

My vote goes for Tokyopop.

I like DelRey and Tokyo Pop since they have Tsuabasa Chronicles, which I might add has those notes I like in the back to more about the anime so I agree with you there Haruhi-in-Wonderland, and Tokyo Pop because they have more of a selection than Viz and DelRey. Viz, I don't like much for they have cheesy titles, I think. I'm not much of a One Piece reader or Naruto. I do have a couple of Viz manga like Hikaru No Go.

I would have to say Viz since it's cheaper and the series that they sell with that company name, in my opinion, are more interesting. Well im mostly into shojo beat and stuff and yah. Also i think Tokyopop takes too long to release volumes. .__.

Well this is a thought one. I don't really now, I can't choose. If they have the manga I want to read that I don't really care from which one is. As long as I can read it! ^_^

Well I am happy with all. As long as they bring manga to my little country, I don't mind either one.

My collection is almost 50/50 between Viz and TokyoPop with the exception of Suzuka which is the lone Del Rey series I am currently buying. On TokyoPop's side I am buying/have bought Ai Yori Aoshi, Mahoromatic, Pita-Ten, Sekai Trilogy, Chibi Vampire, Tsukuyomi Moon Phase, Great Teacher Onizuka and Voices Of A Distant Star, on the Viz side there's Ayashi No Ceres, Monster, Ranma½, Here Is Greenwood, I"s, Midori Days, SaiKano, Please Save My Earth and Video Girl Ai. But my favorite between the two would have to be Viz and the main reason for that would have to be because of Maison Ikkoku which is my favorite series of all time.

It's worth mentioning that my 2nd and 3rd favorite manga of all time are currently NOT licenced in North America! Dark Horse only released the first 8 of 40 total volumes for 3x3 Eyes and no one has bothered to even pick up the rights to the 18 volumes of Kimagure Orange Road, which in my opinion is the 2nd greatest romance series of all time behind only Maison Ikkoku.

Didn't CMX licensed Tenjo Tenghe though?

I prefer Viz because they have most of my favorite titles like Imadoki, Buso Renkin, Skip Beat! and etc. Part of the reason is that they're cheaper too. The variety of my manga collection is Viz. I own a few Tokyopop of the same series and none of DelRey. I think some Tokyopop manga series have bad retouching.

Actually, i just go for the series they sell. all companies have their good and weak point, and while there might be some series where certain companies butchering it, there are exceptions (e.g. tokyopop totally butchered initial d, but the translaion and quality of fruits basket is exceptional or viz's rurouni kenshin, that is like the best translated series they put out - the translated the sfx, suffixes are used and there are historical/cultural notes at the end). it really depends on the staff that works on that particular series, since they use different people for different series.

Tokyopop - pros: has the largerst selection of manga
-cons: a single volume can take up to 6 months to be release. most of the series are like... meh and they dont translate the sfx (which is bad for certain people like me as i dont read japanese.

viz - pros: has most of the better titles out there. the newer series the bring out are geting better as well (translation wise)and they translate the sfx. the redoing of the pics are pretty good as well. this company publishes manga the fastest (actually it depends how far it is in japan compare to here)and are cheaper compared to other companies.
cons: they dont retain suffixes (rurouni kenshin being an exception), have translation notes (ouran and some other series being an exception)andtend to make occasion edits (like the one in FMA volume 8)and most of their (shonen, especially) are extremely long meaning it could take years to catch up/ finish the series(NOTE:not entirely their fault though).

Del Rey - pros: they retain suffixes, translate sfx, there is little or no editting, has some of the better series out there as well ( TRC, xxxhholic, negina, wallflower, suzuka, nodame cantabile - well i lie it, airgear etc).
cons: there have been soe inconsistencies with a few series (e.g in vol 3 and 4 of negima, instead of the "1000 master"the translator translated to something like something summer, however this was fix in later editions). also the prices tend to be more expensiver than other companies and the wait for each is rather long as well, between 3-6 months (though they are catching up to the japanese site of things)

well i cant really judge on other companies like cmx, adv, dark horse, broccoli books etc. since i only read like a series each from each company and i cant be bother writing one for chuang yi (singaporean company) so i shall leave it here for now.
in all, it actally depends on the team assigned to tht partcular series and how much money is actually invested on it.

That's a tough choice. I have manga from all three companies! let's see--I like it that Tokyopop have lots of manga--but not all the manga i like. there are only a good bunch that I actually read from tokyopop---however now they are releasing Heaven!! a very good manga I loved!

Let see...Viz is really good at choosing their manga because most of all the manga i have is from viz. they really know how to attract their auidence. And their new linceses are really good too! and i like that it's kind of cheap.

as for Del Rey, their manga has really good quality! but very EXPENSIVE! the only manga i have from there is Wallflower.

Therefore, I would say that I like Viz more. because it has lots of cool shoujo manga and it's cheap. I'm able to buy them and still enjoy my read! ^^

Viz is gonna start publishing the Shakugan no Shana light novels this April... that's enough for me, the possibility of them for publishing then the Suzumiya Haruhi ones has increased a little bit.

They are all pretty good. I like them all. But then, it seems like tokyopop has the largest selections out of all of them (or is it true? XD).
