Animes that make you feel good
Makes me feel good... hmmm, well, i just recently watched Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, and i think that must come close. Now most of you who have seen it will now go... WHAT?!, well, if you watch it ALL the way to the end, it does actually end happily, a pretty nifty Anime, but, untill the very, very end, it is really, really depressing, i won't ruin it for people who havn't seen it, but, the ending is great, but in the middle, it goes from bad, to worse, to depressingly bad, i wouldn't reccomend watching it in one hit, but great, and the ending, it does actually make you feel good.

Although I've only seen a few episodes of Azumanga Daioh, I definitely agree that it is an anime that can cheer anyone up...just seeing the absolutely ridiculous intro sequence brings a smile to my face...plus even the halfway segment (for example the ones where Chiyo is cooking) are equally silly and happy. While I haven't been able to fully appreciate the series...I have listened to OST many times...and the music on its own also reflects the upbeat cheeriness of the series
Another series that I also find has amusing music is Genshiken...especially the songs for Kujibiki Unbalance...I mean how can you not find an anime in an anime series amusing as an anime fan (also rather philosophical...but that just adds to the humor of the series) I really enjoyed the model building episodes because although I've never built one myself...the series did a great job conveying the exaggerated tension and seriousness to such comic effect...
The one episode of Aria I've seen definitely qualified it as a feel good anime...but in a very different way from Azumanga and Genshiken (although I could be wrong about the whole series) the anime seemed to take itself seriously for its plotline and I felt like I had reverted to listening to moral fables in elementary school...that made me happy and amused...heavier on the amusement part though
I enjoyed both Kare Kano and Honey and Clover, but I'm not sure I would classify them as "feel-good" series...because they made me so anxious while hoping that the characters would have a happy ending...there were feel-good moments in both series though...especially towards the beginnings when they were more silly and less serious
I'm also waiting to watch Pani Poni Dash, which I hear is quite similar to Azumanga. Hopefully it will keep me cheerful in my busy days
One last thing I'll mention (although it's not a series) is My Neighbor Totoro...which is clearly the ultimate feel good anime movie...one look at a Totoro and you've got to smile!
PS. To answer the question about commercial success in the west, I think it's not necessarily that western audiences wouldn't appreciate these purely "feel-good series" but I would imagine it's probably hard to market them. They're mostly not based on plot so have few exciting elements to describe; they're really shows you have to watch to appreciate. Hopefully, the companies will take more chances on series like Azumanga

Azumanga Daioh is definitely among the greatest of the feel-good series. Besides just having cuteness beyond your average series, the characters are charming enough to leave you with that warm, fuzzy feeling. Osaka's antics especially are lighthearted (if she's the only character who ever left me fascinated when she did absolutely nothing for a long period of time).
Koi Koi 7 fits the bill for "feel-good" fairly well, too. There is almost no story to speak of (it's about panties, that's all you need to know), so there's really nothing standing in the way of the loads of fanservice. Despite one or two more dramatic episodes which happen to be the worst of the series, most is high-octane fun delivered in the form of fanservice, mecha, parodies, and big explosions.

Well hmm,..my last Anime that I liked and where I was tuched of was Kono Minikuku mo Utsukushi Sekai.
Reminds me a bit of Elfen Lied (which Anime i love too..)But this one was cute, funny and so sad sometimes. I love those Animes who set you in the Situation on the character and you can feel with the character.

School Rumble, One Piece and Full Metal Panic Fomuffu, they make anyone feel good. Kimi ga Nozomu is one of the best animes, but is too sad.
Hehe...forgot about Full Metal Panic Fumoffu.
I haven't seen FMP regular series, so I can't compare, but I love how fumoffu puts it characters into such silly situations.
My favorite is definitely the episode at the amusement park with Sousuke in the Bonta-kun costume. Just thinking about him running around and then ending with the conversation with Chidori makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Fumoffu was so a series that has absolutely no point with some downright ridiculous episodes, but the characters make it fun.

Hey guys?? what is MFG??
Fruits Basket just warms my heart.
I used to watch at least 1 1/2 episodes before I went to school every morning religiously. XD
The opening theme is very calming, and the stories are always so hopeful, and give you that warm, fuzzy feeling inside. n.n
It makes you feel like you can really make it through the day, no matter what obstacles you may have to face.
