This psot is for people who knows what is a geek... this term is very used but the defeinition isn't very clear at all... i hope someone around here knows really well wht is to bo a geek, because i have an idea but i don't know how to explain it... sorry hahaa

I'am deffinately not. Well it's not that i don't wanna admit it but no i'am really not. For some reason i'am an anime geek but the 'geek' is like so big that it also occupies the school activities. I'am a normal person with stupid art schedule but i go out with friends so i'am not stuck with anime all the times.

Yes. I am a geek, and my wife is a geek, and probably our cat is a geek. All our children will be geeks, and the cycle of geekdom will continue unhindered as long as my family line is strong and without disease.
Geek is a title granted to the unnecessarily smart, the overly competent, and the studious. The person who gets straight "A"s because he/she does not party and instead goes to bed before a test is a geek. The person who fixes your computer is a geek. The person that can (and will) explain the happenings at the event horizon of a black hole or the armor class of a Halfling Rogue/Swashbuckler with unenchanted studded leather armor (fighting defensively of course) while on a packed train is a geek (12 plus their Intelligence or Dexterity modifier, whichever is better, by the way). The person that tapes Nova because a show about the minting of coins sounds fascinating is a geek. Any person that can name over one half of the period table's elements with corresponding letter denotations is a geek.
Get the picture? All the smart, focused, slightly deranged, cerebral folks that do not conform to society's standard of . . . I won't say "cool" because Anime, D&D, World of Warcraft, and black holes are all cool . . . "normal" are considered geeks. And most of us are proud of that title. Geeks excel. Geeks are stronger than most. Geeks are the coolest people on earth . . . because our mothers (and our geeky significant others) tell us so.

Hmmm geek... if you are referring to my odd sense of humor that only certain people understand yes. If you are referring to my glasses... yes, and no they are not that thick (my lenses), and yesI do like computers and crunching numbers because that is what i find fun... Dont make me take you out in video games to prove to you that i am 100% certified geek.

Nova is a good show and watching how coins get made are intresting i watch the history channel every chance i get by those means i guess i am a geek. never got straight a's though

Well i gues i am a geek. i am an otaku anyways. i would say that i am a normal person that is descent on a computer and likes anime/japan. but apparently that makes me a geek here at my school. i play sports ect so whatever. decide for yourself.

That's the definition but you missed the bulls eye.
The definition is like you put it, mostly, but there is one other un-written rule to be considered a "geek" and not a "genius". To be a geek you have to be a damn obsessed bastard in whatever you are a geeky, to the point that you forsake social interaction with other people.

Well whatever yours is the modern day definition. See the Geek T3st @ InnerGeek for your level of geekness with the old school definition.

Alright, I'm kind of a geek, but I don't look like one. I'm quirky, outgoing, but I'm a smarty pants. People usually imagine geeks as those nerdy folks with big rim glasses, overalls, and pants up to their chest, but, there's a new wave of us, sexy smart people ;P

I about peed myself from laughing reading that D&D rundown. I started playing D&D in the late 70s and was the DEFACTO Dungeon Master for the neighborhood I grew up in until 1987. Was also a member of the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronisms).

Nova? Check. Even took notes. Read an entire encyclopedia set. Watched "highbrow" British TV on PBS. Watched some episodes of Dr. Who 13 times! I was unimaginably geeked as a kid.

Fast forward 20-25 years, and I'm still geeked, but primarily an anime geek and computer-nerd.

I dont really think of myself as a geek mostly because i know people who are far geekier than i am, and i dont play wow...so
Other people probably view me as a geek though.
reasons: I watch anime, am on the computer for a better chunk of the day, dont have a face book (and didnt know what it was until my first week of college), straight a student in the honors program, and...umm...i read forums and post on them...

You know, asi could say, geek is a very strange position that goes around "loser" and "average people", i think, and we have to accept that we are geeks in a certain area: for example, we can be geeks referring to videogames, books and study, but the fact that you get good grades doesn't mean youre geek, or that you play often videogames makes you a geek..

also geek is a really good word it sounds funny nd please give you definition!
