Windows Vista
If linux was easier to use making the switch wouldn't be so hard
Granted, it still does have some rather kinky options in certain places, but by what I have used it doesn't exactly require much more than Windows to work. My university uses SuSe 10 and thus far I haven't got any problems with it. Ubuntu, on the other hand, refused to install to my home-comp, so guess there is some difference in the distros too. But generally speaking, Mandriva and SuSe should be as easy to use as WinXP.
IMO, it would make no difference to the casual users either if just the computer dealers had them pre-installed in office setups. Would save some 200 euros too (when including antivirus and Office). Come to think of it, perhaps I should just take a screenshot of what I mean once I get back to the uni...
I beta tested vista a bit awhile ago (back when it was still longhorn), and messing around with the rc's somewhat, its not that bad an OS so far, tho far from perfect
the visuals were stunning tho, to have everything cranked will slow systems down, but thats why there configurable, you can turn on waht you want, and off what you don't want just like i do with xp
dx10 is going to be ok, tho the backwards compatablitly i hear sucks, old dx9/8 an so forth will still play, but it'll act more like a software rendering mode, than a h/w which will sucks cause even tho obviously nvidia and ati'll be releasing new full dx10 compatable drivers soon, but that won't do much for the older games, tho from what i've heard there's already quite a few games already scheduled for release later this year that are going to be using/supporting dx10 (i hear ms's actually debating wether or not to release dx10 ahead of vista)
either way tho i'll personally probably just dl vista when its actually released(hehe i love having MSDN access), and chose if i'll use it then, when i get to use the final build
