Intel or AMD Processor
Intel runs cooler and a bit faster than AMD... (Assuming that their GHz is the same...)
AMD CPU computers runs about $100 cheaper than Intel. Why? Because Intel dominates the market and in order to compete with Intel, AMD lowers their prices.

Got to said intel is way better then amd. But price for low end amd are dirt cheap(most of them) and high end cpu are almost the same price as the intel's. if you want high end stick with intel for faster cpu. if your going low end stick with amd for dirt cheap prices.

I have 2 desktop computers that has Intel Processor inside the system. I have Intel Pentium D 2.8Ghz for my dell and my new computer is Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16Ghz.
Bellx > Just have a look on the recent Intel price-cut action, and you will see, it beats the AMD prices ATM. Yeah I know low-end.. but what is it means for you? Low to run win95? Or what?.. :) Intel DuoCore (that cheap cpu) is affordable anyway. (I have q6600 / Intel ATOM 1.6ghz)
Dream123 > True. But calculate. The amd ... ~5600+ (just an example) runs on 2600-2800 (I really don't know, cause the AMD cpu's have very stupid model number). So... You buy an Intel what runs on the same clock. But the AMD price is much higher. I don't know exactly why, but I assume they are watching their model number, not the performance when they are determining the price of each CPU..

I had experience with both brands of processors. Through that experience, I have found the Intel is the best way to go. Not saying AMD sucks or anything but I have experienced many problems with PCs running on AMD cpus. My computer (which is outdated and needs upgrading) is running on an Pentium 4 1.60GHZ processor and I have had that processor for a while with little to no problems. My previous cpu was and AMD chip and it had many problems and it was frustrating to deal with, so I went Intel.
IMHO, Intel would be the better choice. I am upgrading my comp soon to a quad core Intel processor (Q6600). AMD maybe cheaper, but like most people would say, you get what you pay for. AMD chips are close in the competition but Intel is still King.

I already has Intel and AMD processors, and i saw, serviced a lot of them. I like both, but now i have AMD.
The Athlon X2 good, and cheap, but the 780G chipset not perfect, especially my Gigabyte ds3h board.
Anyway the cpu great for this price.
I like to change some quiet, matx form system with integrated graphics ( this must handle 1080p), but it's a really hard thing.
I'll wait, and the Intel can present a better way, i choose Intel. But the AMD makes better, i choose AMD. Simple. Money and performance. Brand doesn't cunt, if i've became, what i payed.

My first Computer was an IntelPentium it was an 800 Mhz pentium i and i have to say even now he is in a perfect condition not even once i had to repait it but i had to go with the Time and so i buyed an AMD Atlon 3000+ and he was really good and had never problem with it it was cheap and could make the sam things like an Intel pentium so i buyed som yers later a new one and i have to say iammore then satisfied with a AMD Atlon.
ight now i use a AMD Atlon X2 6000+ and it is perfect it was cheap again and he is far better then i had imagine okayi dont know how a intel Pentium with the same system is like but i know that i will buy AMD Atlon if it is possible

I don't know if anyone mentioned this because i only looked through a few pages. But if you are going for a low to mid ranged PC i would suggest going AMD ove Intel for price and performance. Intels Low and Mid range chips aren't as fast as they should be and i have a lot of problems with them when i'm working at the shop where as the AMDs seem to perform well even if you have a $50 3500+.
And i can give you a technical def. answer for why this is.
AMD chips have a superior Front Side Bus, This means that the CPU can communicate faster with the RAM, in turn making your system run smoother. Now because the low end Intel Chips have slow FSB to start with this is a bad choice for a low end machine because it cripples its performance further. This doesn't matter with the Higher end Intel Chips because the FSB is fast enough to cope with Intels weird FSB Timing settings.
Currently I am running all AMD chips in my house (AM2 X2 4600+, AM2 X2 4600+, AM2 X2 6000+) and i am happily running games like crysis with full graphics with no lag. and for systems that cost me under $800 to build i would say thats pretty good.

Intel is dominating the market but I still prefer AMD. It really depends on what your computer is made for. AMD i more geared towards gamers while Intel is more for applications. While Intel does provide the quad core, it is not necessarily the best for everyone and yes, its damn expensive.

Intel CPUs are more expensive.
Earlier, AMDs used to give faster performance I think - but the latest Intel CPUs seem to beat the AMD ones. It is a matter of what you want the PC for - I think for processor-intensive usage, Intel is better. For normal usage, AMD is preferable

Im going to have to disagree with Intel being better for more intensive applications. It is well known that AMD Chips are designed to be Multi-tasking and Gaming based chips. AMD just announced that they are moving in a different direction, They will no longer build chips on the bases of who can open a program faster but who can give that program the most efficient processing and overall most bandwidth. The two companies both seem to change the leader every 2 years or so, i'm just waiting to AMD to gain the upper hand again.
Again it's price to performance and you get about the same for your money no matter who you go with anyways.

Same here, I'm waiting for AMD to come out top again mainly b/c I prefer AMD to Intel.
Using Less power but better performance try Intel E8400 this CPU is better at power and performance only using 65watts same as AMD Athlon X2 5600 but better than Athlon but still if we try to compare about the price Athlon X2 5600 is cheaper than Intel E8400. the different between Intel and AMD is only that AMD using performance rating rather than clock speed so if some one try to buy AMD X2 5600 that doesn't mean it using 5600 MHz CPU but instead it using 2.6 GHz but Intel using clock speed like E8400 3.0GHz also there some different between those two CPU, Intel actually is not using dual or quad Processor like AMD did Intel using one core divided into two or four core instead AMD using two or four core in one processor but if you want some speed and performance in any rate try using Intel is much more faster than AMD if you want to know more of it try

All of the new X2 AMD Chips are now going to be based on 45w architecture. And you only get 45w Intel chips when you start getting up $400+
E8400 isn't 45w, it's 45nm

I've been using and running Intel on my computers for most of my life and so far it none of them haven't let me down as of yet. When I build my new computer next year I planed to move on to their new Nehalem chips that they'll be releasing near the end of the year. I'll probably wait a few months after they release the nehalem to build my new rig to see if there are any reports of bugs or defects on their chips and on the motherboards supporting them.
