McAfee help

solexWell you can upgrade to the $ version but free works.
Yes AND on the 31st they're coming out with AVG Free 8.0, so I'd highly recommend checking it out.
I have McAfee and my version picks up cookies and other minor stuff, be worried if you do find a virus. It should clearly mark what it has found even if that's only in the logs, so check the log.
Regardless of your version of McAfee (virus, internet suite etc.) get a good spyware scanner. McAfee should pick up nearly everything, in a recent review McAfee picked up 83% of known virus and spyware, but having a back up never hurt. I have SpywareDoctor and that detects and/or immunises a lot of cookies, bad site, loggers and Malware. So if you're really worried get a spyware scanner.

Ugh, I hate that program. It never worked for me. I could detect a virus myself before that thing did; it never seemed to benefit my pc in anyway, just eat up my harddisk space. Off the top of my head I can't think of any other good antivirus programs (mostly because I've been using a mac for the past several months and haven't needed to use one).
I'm not sure about you, but McAfee works pretty well in comparison to other anti-virus software. Getting 3-4 viruses often in your scheduled scans is pretty abnormal. Things which cause this to happen may be the transmission of a virus from a removable thumb drive or hard drive. If your computer system has more than sufficient protection it would only be logical not to be detecting viruses.
From my experience with using McAfee, the newer versions tend to quarantine the files detected as viruses. So you will have to go to restore function to remove or restore the files or programs and cookies.
There are other anti-virus software mentioned by the others. Everyone's opinion differs when it comes this topic, so its really up to you what you choose to do. However there is always the alternative to just install the Linux operating system. It is an open source software after all. It does have many people in the community modifying the codes to suit their needs and even fixing problems for others. Since it's always being upgraded and its much more secure from what i know and you don't get any viruses.

We used McAfee in work, buut we wasn't too satisfied with it, so we bought NOD.
It found a lot of treats which McAfee wasn't able to detect.
Is out now :P
At home due "no money - no funny" limitations I used AVG 7.5 Free and it was full okay.
Now I downloaded AVG 8.0 Free, was surprised with the much bigger filesize (47,1 MB),but cause is now together with AVG Anti-Spyware. (until now it was 2 different softwares).
Before that used Avast 32, but I cannot recommend it.
