FLAC vs mp3 (at 320Kbps)
iroveashe... Well, it shouldn't change your mind, since music (and this whole MP3 vs. FLAC debate) is purely based on sound. If you can't hear the difference some graphics won't make your (or anyone else who can't, not particularly you) ears better, therefore, it shouldn't matter. Again, the subject is not if FLAC has greater quality, it's if it's actually worth it given the space it takes, and the fact that not all people can hear it and you can't take its full advantages without proper equipment.
I agree. FLAC has greater quality, it is a fact (believe it or not). Whether your ears can tell the difference between a 320kbps MP3 and a FLAC file, well that's another story and the point of the discussion here in this thread.
I don't think I can really tell the difference, but if I had to choose one of those formats to store my music collection, I would definitely choose FLAC.

I'm an MP3 V0 fan, and can't tell the difference between it and a 320kbps mp3 even with my PA2V2 headphone amp and Audio Technica ATH-A900's, though when a FLAC is thrown in, I can very easily tell the difference, and I can especially hear the difference in my car playing from a FLAC audio CD vs an MP3 CD or even my iPhone. Things just seem so much clearer with FLAC to me, but it always depends on the type of music. I love me some FFXI OST's and otherwise it's all pop/punk/alternative/indie stuff, mainstream mostly, not a huge fan of rap/hip-hop, but kanye west and fort minor are on my playlists...
...
Flac = I'm a freak of audio software and hardware
Mp3 = I have my chepo headphones
Flac is much better then mp3. Mp3 is popular since the files are 50x - 10x smaller then flac, but I'd always prefer flac over mp3.

I've tried both and theres no difference between them, only that mp3 is small (like always) and so i think i'll stick with mp3s.
Well, MP3 are more convenient for me
small size so it can used at portable player also the quality aren't that bad either, though for the high quality sound i will choose FLAC instead

Yes, I can hear a difference. It's quite subtle in some cases, but it's still there. I don't have "audiophile" grade equipment, either - just my iMac G5 (which actually has a mid-high grade sound card in it, believe it or not - look up Burr Brown PCM3052), my $150 Klipsch 2.1 system, and Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's. Not terrible, but far from the quality of the ridiculously-priced "audiophile" components.
And at least for me, the space argument doesn't matter in the least. This is 2008, not 1996. Space is cheap. 35mb+ for a single song is no big deal. But then again, I don't attempt to take the entire record store with me on my 20GB iPod.
So when I can, I go for lossless.

I normally just like to use mp3s because it takes up less space. It's easier to put music on my Ipod with it. I'd rather use FLAC because it sounds better but it just takes up too much space considering as much music I have.

Well from my point of view on the whole MP3 Vs. FLAC is this
I honestly use WMP for music and music only because of the great sound quality it gets and use KMP for HDD video files and MPCHC for dvds so with that being said I would have to go with mp3 192-320, I try to stay away from 128
it's sooo horrid.
FLAC seems nice but 1 cd can get close to or go over 1gig of HDD space or it's gonna be 100MB - 300MB (Depending on the album and how many cds there are).
The biggest issue I had with playing FLAC was WMP will not read it and I have to go with another media player for it and to be honest, I get really crappy sound out of anything else than WMP because WMP has Tru Bass and wow effect with imho improves the sound of 90% of all songs.
I tried Winamp with DFX and...
that didn't sound so great and didn't have as much bass as WMP did with Tru Bass turned on and when I forced it to it turned my music into a garbbled mush.
Mp3 is also the format that you are safe using because just about anything can play it, while FLAC is touchy when it comes to what can play it.
So the results:
MP3 320 Wins
and FLAC Loses
To all you iPod users...
Why? Just... Why spend that much on something I can snap in half with my fingers? And also using iTunes?! Bleh....

Don't you all understand the wonderful format known as OGG?
Surely it is preferable unless you are some audiophile.

(whoa i never knew this thread got so many replies due to me not logging in for months)
Anyway, Omni, i would never disagree that OGG is indeed a wonderful format. The only thing is, my i-pod cant play it -____- (same situation with Flac)

Your iPod can play Apple Lossless, however - just google up a FLAC --> ALAC converter and you're good to go.
