Microsoft to release six versions of Windows 7
No, actually, it doesn't support Windows 98 drivers.Moroko1. Well windows 7 supports (depending on the build) drivers all the way back to win98 drivers, Im able to run devices that i could not run with win xp and vista.
Windows 7 supports the same drivers as Vista. If a device works with Windows 7, it also works with Vista. Indeed, many of the drivers that 7 is using right now were actually designed for Vista (with the exception of some of the video drivers on Windows Update, which are WDDM 1.1 compliant).
Can you explain this, please? I've been running Vista since November 2006, and haven't observed this.Moroko2. Vista is crap, get it off your system as soon as possible and downgrade to XP or upgrade to windows 7. (users with an older system stay with XP)
If an application works with Windows 7, then it also works with Windows Vista. Microsoft went to great lengths to preserve app compat with Vista.Moroko3. Windows Vista was the same thing as windows ME (AKA: Mestake Edition) A crappy bunched together operating system not compatible with anything. With windows 7 you get that compatibility back.
While Windows 7 is very fast and very stable, also find Windows Vista to be very fast and very stable. Vista almost never crashes on it, and it hasn't crashed during the past six months (that crash was after I built a new rig. The wireless driver I installed didn't like my 8GB RAM). Before that, it had been well over a year since my last Vista crash.Moroko4. Stabilaty and speed are definitely there. Im running it on a dualcore 1.8 laptop and its stable as all hell. Sometime where XP and Vista would crash windows 7 well slow the hell down and then it gets thrue the problem and continues to work.
Have you considered the possibility that you had a poor selection of drivers installed on Vista?
This is very much a personal thing, and each person will interpret it differently, but 7 feels nothing like OS X to me. I've got a few Mac's, and 7 still feels like Windows, and OS X still feels like OS X.Moroko5. Windows 7 has this neat look and feel ALMOST like a MAC interface feel to it! But it has its advantages. Options for active monitor detection, the new menus for graphic options are great and the feel is much improved since vista and XP.
Oh, and Vista can detect monitors on the fly, too. As can XP and Win2k for that matter.
1. When i tryed installing it it did and to this day still works. I did howevery try an other device and it failled so i guess on the driver i was lucky. But XP drivers and 2k drives do work depending on the device.
2. I know that this is more of my personal opinion on that comment but for the ammount of PC's and laptops i had to revert to XP most people did not like it. I personally hated the fact that i could not control or make changes to specific settings and had to comfir, and re comfirm and again and again the fact that i wanted to run an app. Atleast on win 7 i can control the securaty settings and not have the same message 1000 times for the SAME app.
3. Windows Vista was the same thing as windows ME (AKA: Mestake Edition) A crappy bunched together operating system not compatible with anything. With windows 7 you get that compatibility back.
I actualy have abbandonwarez that did not work in xp or vista that im able to run now on the same system. Exp: redfaction 1, wolfenstine, dune2000, Star! and wolf3d had some bad video issues or some other glitches and they seam to now work on win 7.
4. I did concider that it might had been the drivers but when i upped to win 7 i noticed a huge improvement. Dont forget the known fact that a system qunning on vista (before service packs) ran slower with more ram then with less. With win7 i found my self with a faster benchmarking machine and more ram available after a fresh reboot.
5. I completely agree that the looks and feel of an operating system is a personal matter ^-^
6. ((Oh, and Vista can detect monitors on the fly, too. As can XP and Win2k for that matter.))
Actualy to be more specific i mean that when you connect a 2nd monitor on these versions of windows you need to reboot the machine in order for it (video drivers) to detect that there is a tv or 2nd monitor connected to it. With Win 7 i was able to just plug it in and it found the tv right away (using a s-video cable).
^-^ Thanks for the recap on those and im happy that i could reply to your inquiries ^-^
Oh, I see what you're doing. You used a WDM driver. Those work in Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. So it's nothing new.Moroko1. When i tryed installing it it did and to this day still works. I did howevery try an other device and it failled so i guess on the driver i was lucky. But XP drivers and 2k drives do work depending on the device.
I've found that it's largely a case of OEM's presenting users with bad images. I've yet to need to downgrade a user to XP. The most I've had to do is uninstall trialware and update drivers.2. I know that this is more of my personal opinion on that comment but for the ammount of PC's and laptops i had to revert to XP most people did not like it.
You're doing it wrong, then. UAC only appears if an application is trying to run as administrator. There are very few apps that need to run as administrator. Indeed, it is dangerous to approve those prompts, since you are allowing third parties full access to your computer.I personally hated the fact that i could not control or make changes to specific settings and had to comfir, and re comfirm and again and again the fact that i wanted to run an app.
Again, you're doing it wrong. I can count the number of apps on one hand that I have that need admin access. Those being CCleaner, SpeedFan, and CoreTemp. If an app is prompting you multiple times within the same session, then it's probably doing bad things to your computer.Atleast on win 7 i can control the securaty settings and not have the same message 1000 times for the SAME app.
There are very few apps that I've found that don't work with Windows Vista. Even Windows Vista x64. Installing a newer version of those apps fixed the problem.3. Windows Vista was the same thing as windows ME (AKA: Mestake Edition) A crappy bunched together operating system not compatible with anything.
Wolfenstein what? I've successfully run Wolfenstein 3D, Return To Castle Wolfenstein, and Wolfenstein Enemy Territory on WinVista.wolfenstine
This works fine for me. I have the id pack on Steam. Try it in DOSBox. The Vista and Win7 command lines do not support the graphics modes that Wolfenstein 3D require.wolf3d
Have you taken into consideration that your graphics issues were caused by your video driver, and the fact that they're fixed in 7 is because you're using an updated video driver?had some bad video issues or some other glitches and they seam to now work on win 7.
Try updating drivers in Vista. You'll notice an improvement, especially with games. I actually have more game compat. issues in 7 than I do with Vista (although this is due to immature WDDM 1.1 drivers).4. I did concider that it might had been the drivers but when i upped to win 7 i noticed a huge improvement.
Wait, what?Dont forget the known fact that a system qunning on vista (before service packs) ran slower with more ram then with less.
I use two monitors (One LCD connected via DVI, one CRT connected via VGA, using a DVI -> VGA adapter). I didn't need to reboot under either Vista or 7. However, under both operating systems I did need to tell the video driver to look for displays (by clicking the "Detect" button...under Screen Resolution in 7, and in the CCC under Vista) before either OS would see the CRT. Indeed, this is also the XP behavior. It's wasteful to constantly poll for new display devices, so the driver has to manually detect it.Actualy to be more specific i mean that when you connect a 2nd monitor on these versions of windows you need to reboot the machine in order for it (video drivers) to detect that there is a tv or 2nd monitor connected to it. Speaking from the IT perspective, I love vista, and windows 7 even more. The amount of additional resources including the resource manager, the new boot manager, and even the utilities right on the OS disc make repairing any problem that comes up or even speeding a clients computer up in general is a breeze.
The thread seems to be about laughing at the fact that microsoft is releasing multiple versions and mac's would never do that, oh god no! Instead, mac's just make you buy the ultimate equivalent version at the max price with no discounts ever. The whole idea of having multiple versions is to make windows cheaper for people who don't need remote desktoping and all the extra perks that come with the more expensive ultimate and pro versions. If all you want is word, an email app, and a web browser, chances are you're not getting a decked out computer either, so get the starter version and save an additional $120+ dollars on a computer. (IMO no one should get starter, 3 limit app limit? wtf were they thinking lol, just using it as an example).
I used the windows 7 beta on a backup laptop I use for repairs at work and it was very nice and easy to use. One of my friends is actually the "microsoft representative" for our college and has to give presentations once a month on campus for them. He came right out and said exactly what Moroko said, "windows ME was god awful, everyone agree? Well XP is essentially the same OS, but with a different feel that people liked, nearly everything underneath is the same." Vista is the same thing in this case, a prequel version to windows 7 which has a feel more accustomed to previous XP owners. He also keeps telling me a rumor that anyone with vista ultimate already will be getting a discount on windows 7, but cant confirm it yet since microsoft hasn't confirmed it either. I do hope it's true though, I wouldn't mind owning a legit copy of an OS for once and I can grab a vista ultimate license from work for the discount =P

Is there going to be a new layout of windows 7 compared to vista?

I heard that Windows 7 is basically a fine tuned Vista, what Vista should have been when it was released.
I think i will still use Xp, i don't like vista or window seven.
Ishikawa-YusukeI think i will still use Xp, i don't like vista or window seven.
You can't say you don't like Windows 7 when it isn't out yet. And Windows XP is reaching the end of it's lifespan. It's support will die out sometime later this year. And I think Microsoft has stopped making disks for XP for a while.

Even Microsoft said they have been trying to kill off XP for awhile now. I heard Windows 7 suppose to be faster than XP.
0o hmm ultimate can get quite expensive... and im not sure if ill need all of its functions. I think I would get the Home Premium... that should most likely be enough...
And I hope its better than Vista...

If Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate editions is very expensive i would go for Windows 7 Home Premium because i think this is the recommended editions for all normal computer users and i'm using Windows Vista home premium which is a good edition for me. For computer users that want all features of the Windows 7, they might want to get the Windows 7 Ultimate.
morokoI found window 7 to be a great operating system. To clarify things for most users posting about this topic. Windows 7 is NOT available in stores yet. If you have it its ether cause your compagnie got versions of it our your a pretty l337 persone and knwo your way to 2600 your self a copy. I know some people got a bad built. If your looking for the right one 6956 seems to be the best ver. Now for those of you out there asking the diferences between xp vs. vista vs. windows 7 1. Well windows 7 supports (depending on the build) drivers all the way back to win98 drivers, Im able to run devices that i could not run with win xp and vista. 2. Vista is crap, get it off your system as soon as possible and downgrade to XP or upgrade to windows 7. (users with an older system stay with XP) 3. Windows Vista was the same thing as windows ME (AKA: Mestake Edition) A crappy bunched together operating system not compatible with anything. With windows 7 you get that compatibility back. 4. Stabilaty and speed are definitely there. Im running it on a dualcore 1.8 laptop and its stable as all hell. Sometime where XP and Vista would crash windows 7 well slow the hell down and then it gets thrue the problem and continues to work. 5. Windows 7 has this neat look and feel ALMOST like a MAC interface feel to it! But it has its advantages. Options for active monitor detection, the new menus for graphic options are great and the feel is much improved since vista and XP. 6. The action center is a prog that actively scans YOUR antivirus and spyware software to make sure you keep them up to date and scan once in a while. It also detects any trouble you may have with drivers, stability and many other aspects of running your PC and ACTUALLY comes up with some useful solutions to your problems you may have.
well window 7 is not for sell yet but you can downloaded freely for use until July or August this year right now I'm using Vista and Xp for this moment but I already try it but there is some miner different with XP and Vista but not like vista, vista is bad I think and I still using Xp for all my program and games also utilities 7 is better than vista but I think Xp is still the best for now

It is probable that Windows 7 corrects the problems of Vista, I hope a better yield. I use Windows XP and if Windows 7 seems good, I will change immediately. I will buy Ultimate :)
Starter Edition is avalible in XP and Vista as well it is for "High Piracy" areas so it mostlikly wont be available in the USA just like how Vista and XPs werent
