Mac vs. PC
I think it's up to the person. I prefer a PC over a Mac because I'm more familiar with it, I have built my own computer with great specs at a low cost, and I like to play games. However, since I'm a Graphic Design major, I'm stuck with using a Mac computer in class. From my personal experience I don't see a major difference where I can say it's better to do graphics related stuff on a Mac computer.
I have been using a PC regularly since I was about 12 (I am 33 now) I just recently acquired a MAC. I do like it over all better but there are a lot of things I miss. Most are simple things like the ability to create a document by right clicking. I hope Apple grows much larger then they are in computer world to compete with PC's. I think some competition will make both formats better.

No doubt of competition will make things better, I don't think it's a "VS", just that each OS is perhaps suited to excel over other OS's in one and vice-versa. I have to agree with the point that you can choose your own components on a pc, but of course building a computer from grounds up isn't what apple wishes to see, don't you think?

Pc or Mac
I think a mac is better for Video/Music editing and programming
and a Pc/Windows is better for Gaming, because most Games are designed for Windows

I always go PC for several reasons:
(a) I find you always have more options in terms of both hardware AND software.
(b) MUCH cheaper hardware.
(c) PCs are more... "general purpose" if you will. They can be used for just about anything.

The writing was pretty much on the wall when the transition was announced. Anyone who bought a brand new PPC machine after the announcement was either ignorant, or in desperate need of the hardware (probably for professional work). At that time Apple had already developed a notorious reputation of pushing newer hardware by rapidly dropping support for older hardware and software.
What about the people who bought a brand new PPC machine before the announcement?
Like who? Me? I bought my first mac in the spring before the transition to intel was announced. You buy based on what you need (want?) and the information that is available to you. There will always being something faster that will come in the future. You can do can do all the necessary research and still get something that gets outclassed in a few months or you can get something like a radeon 9700. That's the nature of computing hardware. Caveat Emptor.
Mac doubtless, with OS X Leopard, in my case, it is far better that a common PC, it offers a exelent graphic interface and the work surroundings are comfortable as much for edition as design , perhaps is not intuitive like a Windows Vista (it is necessary to have something of knowledge) I speak of software. With respect to the design of hardware, they are elegant.

Both mac and PC have their ups and down as for me since im in the design business I use both and cant really say which is better.
Macs excel at simplicity and most design professionals will lean toward mac But chances are you can live without it. MAC does make things up in terms of audio and video editing/playback.
PC is cheaper and more versatile. Plus you can also entertain yourself with some high end gaming which MAC really lack.

It's not a matter of performance.
It's a matter of Apple dropping support so that their development costs go down, and to, hopefully, encourage users to buy new hardware.

I thought this point was already established. No one is trying it deny it. What's was the point of your prior comment?

To re-enforce my point.
You mentioned that something faster is always around the corner. This is true, however, unrelated to this topic, so I felt it important to re-enforce my point.
I don't know if either is better than the other. I've used Windows practically all my life and liked using the programs on it. I only got a Mac more recently as well as an iPhone. I have to say that Macs are more flashy but under that are pretty much the same as any other computer. The only reason I would probably get a windows is because I'm more use to it and most everyone I know has a windows computer. It really all depends on what you like and other factors in your life really.
