Well, at least it will be better than microsoft.
Broswer based OS, here I come!

I'm looking forward to it, hopefully it'll be better than Mac and Windows.
If 100% of what you do is web based, then you're in luck.LongbowI'm looking forward to it, hopefully it'll be better than Mac and Windows.
If not...
It's just another Linux distro. There's not too much to be excited about other than the fact that Google is backing their own a Linux distribution and spreading it to the mainstream market.
Hopefully it's less bloated and AIDS-filled than Ubuntu.

You can just about bet that it's going to work really well with their plan to go against the IPhone with their own version.
This will be nothing but another Linux distro that will fall by the limelight. The last thing Linux needed was another distro.
We don't know exactly what we're getting yet, but to me it appears to be a browser to use web applications and nothing more because it will be tightly integrated with Google apps like Gtalk, Gmail, and Google Docs.
While possibly being cost effective that would only help startups who are looking to save capital early on in their venture. Mature companies that already have a sound IT infrastructure will never change due to the huge cost of changing. If all your applications are Windows based moving them to a web based application, building the new infrastructure and re-training all your employees will cost far more then companies are willing to spend.
Businesses tend not to look beyond the current fiscal year due to the budget. They don't care if 5 years from now it'll save them $3 million a year in licensing. They care about the bottom line this year.
Cloud computing will have it's place. A few niche markets like the one Google appears to be targeting will use a full cloud infrastructure run by others like Google. A few other niche markets will run full cloud computing infrastructure run by themselves. I think the most common market though will be an integration of cloud computing with the current desktop operating system as it will be the easiest and cheapest way to implement it on current IT infrastructure and you then have the best of both worlds.
Oh and for those who think anything from Google is free:
How about them scanning all your emails if you use Gmail? Last I checked they have monetized every one of their products or left a little piece in the EULA retaining the right to do so (read Chrome’s EULA about ads in the browser itself). Google and Free don’t go in the same sentence.

Hey! Youtube == Google!!
This thing(OS) is not going to work, especially because the Google is extremely careless with customer care.
--> This happens to me when I use Google's services. They do not respond to any problem. No response at all.At help forums, I get replies to questions.. but they are just the other users.. reporting the same problem
Google is the only one that can fight against microsoft now..?

It seen that google will try with Google Chrome OS. May be based on linux. Actually exist Android, the google's mobile OS based on linux too. I would like to try it, but I think that will be a GNU/Linux clone with google docs compatibility.

Somehow I doubt this will go anywhere...the biggest problem with OS's at the moment is obviously that microsoft has the monopoly...Apple could have challenged them but decided to keep their OS specifically on their machines...Microsoft went mainstream and here we are...

For this OS, I think this relies on the network support. If your network speed is not fast enough, it may cause some problems. Anyway, I will look forward to the new OS.

Heard about it, hoping google suceeds. Right now most people say apple is the only legitimate alternative to windows, which makes me sad(I hate the apple os). Ubuntu and linux are pretty cool but much more of a pain if you run into a problem (windows so many problems/solutions are out there already).

Google's OS will be just as successful as Google video ;)
Frankly Google has missed an great turning point this past year, had Google not been all about inventing they could have easily bought up an IP that was in need of funding and support and they could have broken into the market a year ago. However with Windows 7 being released in October, and Snow Leopard being released in September there will be very little market share for Google to pick up.
I am not surprised, but as of recently Google has dropped the ball, android is/was a great piece of software for handheld devices, but it has no market penetration when comparing them to RIM or Apple.
We shall wait and see however I don't think it is really going to take off.
