After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

Heard about it, hoping google suceeds. Right now most people say apple is the only legitimate alternative to windows, which makes me sad(I hate the apple os). Ubuntu and linux are pretty cool but much more of a pain if you run into a problem (windows so many problems/solutions are out there already).
OS X is the only viable alternative at this point in time.

Linux distro's such as Ubuntu still have a long way to go when it comes to catering to the needs of the average user.

Ubuntu is currently on the only Linux distro that can cater to the average user, it is the easiest to install, has the best support forums and works right out of the box on most hardware. The problem with Linux currently is there is no standardization, there is too many choices and the average user needs some sort of standard to keep to. That is why Microsoft office has such a high perpetration in the consumer market, users use it at work, so it is good enough to use at home.

Frankly I think that all the vendors need to standardize everything, that way it doesn't matter what OS you use it will all just work. Until that day happens Mircosoft will hold a good share of the OS market.

This will be nothing but another Linux distro that will fall by the limelight. The last thing Linux needed was another distro.

We don't know exactly what we're getting yet, but to me it appears to be a browser to use web applications and nothing more because it will be tightly integrated with Google apps like Gtalk, Gmail, and Google Docs.

While possibly being cost effective that would only help startups who are looking to save capital early on in their venture. Mature companies that already have a sound IT infrastructure will never change due to the huge cost of changing. If all your applications are Windows based moving them to a web based application, building the new infrastructure and re-training all your employees will cost far more then companies are willing to spend.

google chrome may be better than IE but if google try to fight in making OS is far far away Microsoft has making this before 1995 and become hits in 1995 with window win 95 than win-98, win-me etc even know other OS such as mac, Linux, still cannot compete with windows google may have made some success in some way like google video, google chrome, search engine but if he try some luck in making OS perhaps it should be consider first make some research first before it |(o_o) emoticon |(o_o) emoticon |(o_o) emoticon (9+_+) emoticon

Interesting. I hope it doesn't just flop like so many of you are expecting. Microsoft needs to be put in check. More importantly, developers need to realize that Windows isn't the alpha and omega of computing platforms. I mean... as far as I can tell, Linux has come a long way and will hopefully continue to improve, and hopefully Google's OS wont be as buggy as it's browser (I use Chrome but find it crashes often) but even if operating systems like these do become completely stable/usable, it wont change the fact that software is developed for Windows. It will be interesting if sooner or later developers start to break free from Microsoft, that's when these other OSs will really shine.

Explain why MS needs to be put in check? They're not doing any wrong (things in the past not withstanding).

MS isn't stopping anybody from developing for Linux. They certainly can't stop anybody from developing for Chrome OS since it's going to be nothing but a web browser.

Linux isn't used because it is still too complicated for the Average Joe. Ubuntu and Linux Mint have made things easier but it still doesn't compare to the ease of use with Windows. When Linux starts to really gain desktop market share that's when you will see development start to grow. No company is going to spends large sums of money right now to develop software or drivers because they can't profit off of it.

The other problem is Open Source will always suffer because it is free. For example Canonical has no idea when Ubuntu will become profitable. Right now it's just a huge money sink. Mozilla gets roughly $50 million a year from Google to keep developing their fantastic browser Firefox. Now that Google has Chrome how long do you think Google will continue funding Firefox? Sure Mozilla gets money from others as well but $50 million is no small chunk of change and that loss of money will hurt development.

Don't get me wrong Open Source is great but it has an inherent flaw in its business model that will hold it back for a very long time and that is not Microsoft's fault.

Like a few have said already, this operating system will just be like another Linux distro... I mean, unless it has great compatibility with windows programs, it won't get very far...

Google can try, and I love google and rather dislike microsoft, but I doubt they will succeed, they should focus on components, not the OS as a whole, components are where the money is.

I just can't see this working out properly, there's too many questions about it and it's so close to release... but we are talking about google after all, we could be in for a big surprise.

I kinda trust google cuz they made everything perfect till now.

And if it will be compatible with all windows programs (it must or 90% people wont even try it) it will be a big blast on the OS choice ^^^

looking forward to test it :D

@~SkullOne very interesting and well written response

to add to the thread, I think it'll be interesting to see what happens. I don't see it being an immediate mega-hit but over time I see it still being there and improving

A new step to something again for google they're so innovative I like google very much but another Linux distro again? Even a chrome browser still lack many things if they aim to make chrome OS to be the best for internet browsing friendly chrome browser is one of the important portion that they need to work on.

Well, we'll wait and see if they can make something stand out from being just a Linux distro I still have faith in them though.
