Good program to go with backgrounds.

The easy solution would be only put the icons you use on your desktop lol, Mine are organized by program type into little squares, don't judge me lol.
Using Blackbox for 3 years, keep desktop clean (no icons, just Blackbox plugin or widget). Now, I can't live without it...
If you hate icons you can always...
- hide them
i.e.
right click your desktop and yeah... (example image was from windows 7 other windows OS may very)
- use the quick launch (small icons next to start button)
- use the start menu
I have a distaste for 3rd party apps that manage my programs because they tend to cause more trouble for me than they are worth and initial setup is a pain

Just make you own. Thats what i do :)
A program that goes good with backgrounds for Mac OSX is TinkerTool. It's free to download. In the Finder settings you just selecting "Disable Desktop Features" and no icons will appear on your desktop. This makes your desktop nice and clean to fully bring out the look of your wallpaper. Don't worry, though, all the files on the desktop still show up on "Desktop" in the Finder window.

I use the following applications to keep my desktop sleek and clean Rocketdock, Rainmeter, Rainlendar.
My current desktop :) Sleek & sexy, no anime wallpaper currently though.
