Should one upgrade from Vista to Windows 7?

I wouldn't recommend upgrading Vista. Windows 7 is way too overhyped. Just get the latest patches of Vista and you should be alright.

You apparently haven't read up on squat about Windows 7 otherwise you wouldn't be saying that. There's more then a few changes minor changes.

I upgraded from vista to 7 a month ago, feels significantly better. I get better general performance while using the file manager(explorer) and other explorer related performance issues relating to stability and speed. The move to 7 has removed some useful api's that were present in vista, but that is expected with any new os. As of yet there is no aspect of 7 that has made me wish I hadn't upgraded.

Out of curiosity, which API's were removed?
I'm not a computer expert, but...
Used Windows 95 to Windows 7, also used Debian and Mac OS X, and I know my way around my hardware. I use my computers for learning photoshop and playing games. From both perspectives Windows 7 is the best thing since XP (though I am a fan of 2000 =D), if you compared Vista as of now to the RTM version of Windows 7, Vista operates more sluggishly here and there such as when opening documents or programs, ending programs or loading applications. Windows 7 on the other hand is more snappier and is far less likely to eat your resources up like a kid with candy on Halloween.
Windows 7 is much more user friendly after a hour or two of adjusting its vista-esque in terms of appearance but not as dark, more clear. Heres a screenshot of things crammed into one monitor http://imgur.com/9pDer.jpg
You can adjust volume for individual applications, and Windows 7 has drivers for 90% or more of hardware on the market right out of the box. I use small icons for my systray (start menu/bar) but you can find the original style in most pictures online.
If you happen to be a college student with a .edu email you can get a copy for $29.99 http://windows7.digitalriver.com/store/mswpus/en_US its windows 7 home premium to be specific.

I plan on taking advantage of that discount $30 is a great price. I also have to agree. I've used MacOS X and Ubuntu. Windows 7 just works better for me. My TouchScreen/Tablet is much more supported and works out of the box with calibration (in the case of MacOS, I actually have a touchscreen XD). Photoshop opens quicker and everything just seems to be snappier. I don't think Windows 7 is overhyped at all. I think it is a great OS, but that's my opinion. I still say that you need to try it for yourself.

I certainly would, Vista wasn't that great even though I used the 64bit version fine.
After upgrading to WIndows 7, everything ran quicker, and everything was more refined and smoother than Vista.
Overall its basically a tweaked/fixed/upgraded version of Vista since it wasn't so great.

What crashed for you on Vista? Vista is probably the most stable OS Microsoft has created to date because of the new driver models.

Amusing. As above Vista is stable. Most crashes can be attributed to Nvidia's drivers.
I have already used Window XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. At home, I still use XP since I believe it is still better at games. At the office I use Vista most of the time, and then Windows 7. I like XP, because it is quick, I hate Vista due to its slowness but we are required to use it
But since we already have Windows 7, I would try it time to time, and I was amazed by it. I was expecting it to be nothing more than a Vista reincarnate but no. It really is faster, from installation which is very simple compared to XP, to start up and shutdown. My PC only takes a few seconds to load Windows 7
I guess Microsoft finally got it right this time. I have also read some reviews that Windows 7 "might" beat OSX but I can't say. I haven't used OSX that much.. yet.
If you have the money, I suggest you upgrade to Windows 7.

It probably comes down to personal experience, but vista was an absolute disaster for me, I couldn't wait to replace it. Windows 7 is the first OS that I've ever felt is worth paying money for, I'd recommend it.
Just one thing, YOU WILL REGRET FOR NOT UPGRADE WINDOW VISTA TO WINDOW 7. finish, end of story.

I recommend to upgrade window vista to window 7. I use to be vista user, and I can't handle their systems coz it looks like too complicated. Window 7 can be solution and answer to the problems which came from vista. Lets upgrade to window 7...
