Instrumental or Lyrical?

Wow I'm surprised that someone else knows of E.S. Posthumus, they are indeed quite spectacular. And while I agree for the most part that instrumental songs in the long run will be much more remembered than lyrical, I must disagree with the use of the word "lyrical" in this regard as it encompasses such a broad range. Some of the best, most hauntingly beautiful music that I've heard include some form of harmonic choirs or ethereal incantations in Latin, Greek, etc (Gladiator and various epic Middle-Eastern-styled soundtracks come to mind), along with the devastating aural tremors of the renowned One-Winged Angel with the Latin choir. These can't exactly be considered "lyrical" in the sense that Linkin Park (and I do love Linkin Park songs) songs are lyrical.
In the end, I believe that the emotional "lyrical" songs are the best, far more superior to pure instrumentals or your typical mainstream vocal music.

Well, IMO, lyrical songs are those where the artists put their words over the music instead of part of the music, I enjoy listening to such groups as Globus and E.S. Posthumus becuase it's truly not about the lyrics, it's about the music. I guess you could say it's almost like an instrumental with the voices being part of the music instead of the sounds, meshing almost perfectly with the songs in ways never imagined.
They both serve their purposes, and I listen to a lot of both.
That said, to ME, being a music student and musician and whatnot, the music itself comes first. I'm a sucker for good vocals, but the lyrics themselves are an afterthought.

I mainly listen to Japanese music which I totally do not understand except for a couple of phrases that are pretty omnipresent so in a way, lyrics are quite negligible because they do not really have much meaning for me. However, I think the vocals are a very important part of a song, particularly in pop music, because it is like another instrument. It gives people something easy to latch onto because they can do it with their own voices instead of doing something like... air guitar.
I don't like lyrical music if it's repeating the same thing over and over and over again (aka soulja boy). Most of the time, I only like instrumental when it comes to techno, e-heh. But I do like classical music sometimes...
I technically like both...
I cant live without lyrical moreover when the song has deep content...
same as instrumental which remains wordless and yet felt in depths...
I've never been aware until Aleatz posted this thread, I think Instrumental songs are those I would not easily get fed up with, unlike lyrical songs which I only prefer for a month or even weeks! for God's sake, most of my anime BGMs are still on my top list unlike the other one that keeps changing constantly...

I like both lyrical and instrumental. Most of my collection of music consists of soundtracks and various other instrumental pieces, but my lyrical collection has been growing. ^_^ It really just depends on if I feel like singing to words of music as to which I listen to.
I like both in different ways. Generally lyrics make me want to listen to a song over and over again, while instrumental music has so much more complexity, originality, and mood.
Most artists don't get the lyrics right anyways. They don't make the song, the voice is just another instrument. And most artists have completely unoriginal lyrics. So that's a big turn off.

I love instrumental music, especially piano and orchestra. I don't really like the electric sound..
But, i like if lyrical, the back sound is instrumental like piano and orchestra, eg: 1000 Words.

Instrumental and lyrical. ...sometimes the mood goes to classical, jazz, techno, or another instrumental track. ...and other times can move to U2, Sleepy Jackson, Guitar Wolf, Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band, or another individual/band.
Live concerts... there is just something about hearing music in a space and sharing that experience with others, while being in your own space at that moment, that is so incredibly awesome.

I totally have to agree with you DagetAwayMaN421. It's nice to hear another version of a certain techno song or what not but it gets old real quick. Besides, listening to instrumental music you get more creative when it comes to writing either poetry or any story. While listening to lyrical music all you do is write different versions of the lyrics you hear. As for me tho, I honestly don't mind. It all depends on my mood.
I like them both. I can't live without one. Instrumentals put me in the mood and lyricals are lots of fun to listen to. Gotta have 'em!
I usually listen to lyrical music but I love to sometimes sit down and just listen to the Tsubasa Chronicles or DNAngel soundtracks because they're really pretty ^^

I like a balance in both.
I like music with meaningful lyrics, otherwise their rhythm and melody.
For instrumentals, I use them for karaoke sessions or just easy listening.
While I am not really into heavy metals, electric guitars or techno, I like acoustic instruments like piano and violin as they are more peaceful.
I so totally agree! I LOVE D.N.Angel soundtrack. When you listen to it, it feels like you're in heaven :D

Sometimes I would prefer a mix between the two. It counts on my mood too at the time. but a majority of the time I like instrumental and then again at times...So yeah I guess it would be a mix between the two that I like most. ^___^
