Yoko Kanno

Yesterday I just lost myself listening to Escaflowne's ost... It's just so incredibly beautiful... It's impossible not to listen to the songs and don't remember the series scenes... Especially the Black Esclaflowne and Dance of the Curse tracks I find most similar to a few orchestra plays... like Carmina Burana...

I dont know all of her work, but from GITS SAC ost I like Shibirian Dooru Housu (Siberian Doll House), Monokuroomu (Monochrome), and Inner Universe with Origa and Shanti Snyder.
And yes, the ost of Escaflowne has great songs too.

Yay! Love the OSTs of Escaflowne. It's lovely. She's a great composer, Yoko Kanno, I meant. ^^
Only had the pleasure of GITS SAC and Cowboy Bebop. I love her work on Bebop! It's such a nice difference for an anime soundtrack.

Gotta love Yoko! I liked her GITS music! With tracks like Inner Universe ans Rise... -sighs dreamily-
Darker than BLACK reminds me somewhat of her Cowboy Bebop work which definitely stands out on its own. Jazzy and always never fails to invoke a sense of nostalgia in me.
Wolf's Rain is superb as well! Kanno has written wonders for the singer Sakamoto Maaya here.

Her work is amazing. While I am particularly a big far of the GiTS OSTs and the Cowboy bebop OSTs, my favorite music from her comes from her solo album Song to Fly. The songs on there really seem to speak to me, even though they don't all quite have that inspired feeling like her OSTs do.

Luv it !

Yeah! i have listened a few OST from Yoko Kanno composition, like Escaflowne, Wolf's rain , the Cowboy Beebop and Macross Plus.
Her music is very cahrming and in some compositions she "recruit" very talented singers and musicians like Gabriela Robin (ohh love!), Maya Sakamoto and Steve Conte that adds their own influence into the OSTs.
Recomend me some other works of her.
Ah! And the OST of the movie "A girl in Gaea" of Esca, have a good variety of sounds, I like that.

You folks should also look up songs from Earth Maiden Arjuna. They were all written by her, and the series is by Shoji Kawamori who did Marcross. The songs from Arjuna are, as he requested, 'feminine'. You'd think that would be hard to write into the score of a series, but she pulls it off so wonderfully. They're more instrumental- I can count on a hand the pieces with song. The best one by far is one that was not released on any official soundtrack, which the fans call "Clouds". You can find it on YouTube ;D
And if you like the songs, give the anime a try. It's severely underrated ;;>>
