1. Kage bunshin requires alot of chakra, so if he didnt have a source in the first place, he would end up being a really dud ninja.

2. Suprisingly, whenever Naruto learns something he has a teacher... thus we also have to factor independance. Is Naruto independant enough to learn something all by himself!?

3. The scenario is as follows: Kakashi wants to teach both Naruto and Sasuke a water technique, which requires seals. Naruto would have to first learn how to use the water element, then create the shape manipulation for the technique, remember the seal formations and execue the technique.

Sasuke activates the Sharingan, copies the seal and immediately executes the technique. His mind ends up memorising the technique.

Now tell me, did you say Naruto could catch up to Sasuke!?!?!?

In order to get anywhere Naruto has to pull his head out of his butt. He's far too oblivious of his surroundings and lacks anything resembling tact. If he where to develop a little reasoning ability he would be much more effective, as it is it's just too easy to walk him into a trap. If it weren't for the Kyuubis overwhelming power, I could count off an endless stream of times when he should have died due to his thick skull.

If he's ever going to have a glimmer of a chance of surpassing Sauske without using the Kyuubi, he's going to have to learn to notice the world around himself and think, just a little, about what's happening.

That said, I believe that Naruto has the raw power and the potential to exceed Sauske once he grinds out a few new skills and learns to use his head to maximize the effectiveness of the skills he has at his disposal.

Oh, and for the love of god, learn to get a razengan going with one hand already. He's been training with it for three years and even realized it's full ungodly destructive potential, but he still hasn't mastered the use of it's basic form. Just that small improvement alone would give him a technique superior in almost every way to Sauskes chidori. Shorter prep time, more destruction. As it is he has to divide his remaining energy every single time he wants to use razengan, and he has to carefully move in tandem with a clone while it's formed. By doing that he loses time, he loses a lot of energy, and he loses maneuverability.

I've noticed several people saying that Naruto needs to learn a way out of genjutsu to fight Sauske. I agree that he definitely needs to get something going in that area, but the fact is that I'm not sure he's smart enough to get very far with that. That aside, even if by a miracle Naruto turns out to advance far into the world of genjutsu, the Mangekyo Sharingan is just too fast to be broken. Most genjutsu is broken a couple seconds into the jutsu once the target realizes what's happening, but when the entire genjutsu takes a fraction of a second, the body simply can't react before it's over. so against an opponent who possesses such an ability, learning to break genjutsu is utterly pointless.

Well, if Naruto would be better able to communicate and gain control of his Jinchuuriki would he be able to gain such control and power from the bijuu. Things at the moment dont look so bright since Naruto himself has practically no knowledge of hos powerful, let alone having a compatible relationship with the kyuubi. Furthermore, Naruto's attempt to mid transform, that is to summon just four tails was on the verge of killing Naruto. Itll be along time for him to muster such a power, let alone master it.

If Naruto wants to surpass sasuke, he definitely needs to work on two things: Speed and his demon mastery.

Naruto is pretty much a stronger choji without being able to grow. He's just a complete "power" guy with no speed whatsoever. Nine times out of ten, his fights end with him hitting some guy with a rasengan. Now in each of these situations, it takes him the entire fight to land one on the guy. In order for it to land, he needs to take obscene amounts of damage to figure out how the guy fights, and he's gotta do some elaborate kage bunshin setup. Increasing his speed would allow him to connect much easier and without having to get into a near death state.

2nd, he needs to master using his demon chakra so that he can become immune to sasuke's genjitsu. Otherwise, he literally has no chance. Sasuke's genjitsu's seem to get more ridiculous with every new chapter.

I would say that Naruto can't really surpass Sasuke right now. At the end of the series... maybe he'll be able to surpass him, and that would be an achievement!

At the moment... well, Naruto is Naruto... he's got a lot to learn.

Yeh well "WHEN" and "IF" are two really good questions for such a statement at the moment.

Although we have not seen much of Sasuke in the Shippuden series to date, the small glimpse at his ability that we were given suggests that Sasuke has has far surpassed Naruto and practically all of the ninjas in Konoha, but this does not mean Naruto can not be his equal or even surpass Sasuke. While Sasuke seems to have developed many new techniques and abilities during his time with Orochimaru, Naruto has been training with Jiraiya on controlling the chakra of the nini-tailed demon fox and also training with Kakashi to develop a new technique using his elemental wind chakra and his rasengan. To date, Naruto can only control the demon's chakra up to the third tail. There are still six tails that Naruto could develop, and if he can learn to control it and use it on his own, Naruto would easily surprass Sasuke using just the demon's chakra alone. Although such an idea would be dangerous and Naruto does not want to rely on the demon's chakra. One way Naruto can improve himself would be to learn how to use the rasengan with just one freaking hand already. That would make the development of his new technique much easier, save time during combat, and more. Another thing Naruto could do would be to refer back to his training with Jaraiya and the frog summoning. There must be a way Naruto can use that to his advantage, considering it is one of the reasons Jaraiya became so powerful. I can not remember any time in the Shippuden series where Naruto actually summoned a frog. It's as if he's totally forgotten about that training and technique.

Naruto pretty much needs to learn how to stratagize. He jumps in head first too much and is very impatient, which is very annoying at times.

Also I dont think it's just about learning how to use the Kyubi. People keep saying, "well if he were to use 3 or more tails he automatically wins cause he has more power". I dont think it works that way. I'm not sure if naruto's body can handle it either.

Naruto could never defeat Sasuke even if Naruto had a 100 lives he couldn't beat him. Sasuke in the current storyline is already way too powerful for that dweeb of Naruto to even fight equally. When Sasuke fought Naruto when they were kids Sasuke did defeat him. Sasuke was trained by that Orochimaru with his sharingan he must have learned everything that Orochimaru had to offer. Even after that he obatained the MS his power grew to new levels something that Naruto can't even catch up too. The only thing that Naruto has going for him now is the sage training but we all know that training Naruto always tends not to work.When Jiraiya trained him for 2 years we saw that he didn't improve much he still makes to much of the same mistakes he did when he was kid. Sasuke in the other hand is always thinking of a strategy on fighting his opponent. When it all comes down it on actual battle of skill Sasuke could defeat him no problem. Maybe if Naruto actually trains seriously and stop his normal fighting strategies of just rushing in then he could improve and fight Sasuke on a even field.
