Sad ending like in the book or happy end?

Well, I've seen that there are huge speculations about how the series will end.
Will it be like in Shakespears' play? Or will it be happy ending?
Which one do you prefer?
I know that I might be seen as a bad person or so because I'm really thinking that the tragic ending like Shakespear writes it would be the best.
Romeo and Juliet is known over decades in this way and I think the main point which makes the play so well known is because of the tragedy at the end. It's a sign that nothing can break such a deep love even then the parents and over people are against it.
I also think that it will destroy the main aspect of the original play if there is a happy ending.

I strongly advocate the classic ending - both must die. That's the only way the legend of Romeo and Juliet can end. If it doesn't end tragically, then it's simply not Romeo and Juliet... Not that I want to be mean... I always feel very sad when watching this series, because of my expectation that both will die. Esp. during the OP and when the two get together and seem happy, makes me even more sad... :(
I cannot see this anime not having the sad ending as in the original play written by Shakespeare. I mean common, there are already enough differences made into the anime that it has set itself apart. I believe that changing the ending to have the both of them live as a happy couple would be a betrayal and insult to the original literary work of Romeo and Juliet. Its a tragedy and thats just how it should be.
At first when I encounter this topic I thought that it would be better if the ending is a happy one for a change. They had both been through a lot as portrayed in the original story but after I read the comments above, Romeo and Juliet would simply not be the same Romeo and Juliet that Shakespear had written.
But still I think that it would actually be better if the ending is a happy one.

Well, those of us who subtly wish for the happy ending have been led so because of the character development. If this series continues on for several more episodes (and by that I mean another 10 or 15), then the addition of the original ending would be detrimental to our viewpoint.
Either way, the tragic ending is traditional, and without it this would just be another starcross'd lovers story.

Let me think. I could prefer the good than bad ending of story
I just started reading novels and manga too as well. Without the good ending the overall ratings were could possibly be in downfall. But, still that is important too for the story which makes good or bad ending.

Well, Romeo and Juliet isn't a love story, it's a tragedy. Otherwise the balcony scene would be towards the end of act 3, not the beginning of act 2.
I'm a bit disappointed that 18 episodes have gone by and it hasn't really passed the development stage of the two main character's relationship. There hasn't been enough build-up to the tragedy theme for it to seem plausible at this point. It feels like it's really pushing for a happy ending.

I agree with Kyto, there hasn't been that much development between Rome and Juliet to warrant a tragic ending. it definitely seems like a more hopeful story than Shakespeare's original play.
I would definitely welcome a happy ending over a sad ending (it's most likely that a lot of side characters will die instead and that Rome and Juliet are left to rebuild New Verona). However, if it takes the sad ending it'll be more like Romeo dying and Juliet will rebuild Neo Verona (never forgetting about Romeo or she becomes pregnant blah blah) and will continue on for future generations.

Romeo and Juliet is greatest tragic love story ever told and it really wouldn't be Romeo and Juliet if it had a happy ending. However I do have to say that i have enjoyed the version of the story that is told by Romeo X Juliet. It brings new life to characters of the story. I specially like how Juliet was turned into a heroine who fights for her people. Sure the basic concept of the story is in there but the anime is really different from the Romeo and Juliet that Shakespeare wrote so the ending might as well be very different from what was originally written. It would be kind of interesting to see a happy ending for Romeo and Juliet.
I really hope it doesn't have the sad tragic ending. I mean sure it Romeo & Juliet, but what's the point of knowing how it will end.
I hope they set a new ending be it happy or sad.

I like the happy ending for this anime, I don't want the sad ending because it's a anime and Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is the original. Maybe this anime has a different ending. I don't know only the author of this anime knows what is the ending.
I really don't like sad endings.

Like pretty much everyone else said, Romeo and Juliet wouldn't be Romeo and Juliet without a tragic end in which they both die [although personally I don't want that to happen :( *sniff* ~ but we must pay tribute where tribute is due]

Yeah.....Hopefully it wont be a tragic ending following the typical Shakespeare storyline...I don't know why but it just feels like it'll aggrivate me a whole lot if they both commit suicide in the end. But seeing as the storyline is steering pretty far away from the central play storyline, I think we can all expect a good ending to this one. Especially because its a romance anime....I really dont like bad endings to Romance anime, just leaves me with a crap feeling in the end after I finish it.
