Nightwish
Nightwish is BACK!
and so their latest album "Dark Passion Play" check it out and tell me wot you think of it.
my opinion, I'm glad they're back but I'm not a fan of this new lead singer "Anette Olzon"
It just doesn't feel the same and i don't feel the same emotions. Nightwish is still as popular as ever but i just don't feel the same without Tarja.
Who else has listened to their new album and what do you think of it?

I haven't listened to the album, but from the samples I've heard... ugh. They're not Nightwish, anymore. There are so many talented classically trained singers that would give their right arm to be in Nightwish, and what did they do? Picked a chick who doesn't even have enough power for her voice to carry over the bass.
I suppose I could get used to her, but it's just not the same band. They should've changed the name if they were going to get such a radically different vocalist.
Between the very unprofessional way they fired Tarja (I don't care if their allegations are true or not, that was just dirty) and the disappointment over their new pick (after waiting over a year to find out who it would be), I'm pretty much over them. I'll listen to their old albums from time to time, but I'm not going to throw any more money their way.

Still don't listen, seems that my husband has the same ide as you LadyPyre, something changed.
The new singer is ideal for a pop band. For a band like Nightwish... NO!

Hmm ~ *scratches head* I actually like their new album, but I agree with the people who say that Nightwish definitely doesn't sound like Nightwish any more T_T Of course, the most radical difference is the vocalist. Anette sounds a lot like the vocalist from Within Temptation [forgot her name ^_^'] - her voice is much more higher and 'girly' than Tarja's, and it's less fitted for the kind of songs that Nightwish do. I would've preffered a vocalist with a voice closer to Tarja's.
Then, there's the instrumental background - which, again, reminds me of Within Temptation a lot. It's lighter, you can hardly feel that this is a gothic metal band anymore :(
But I'll still stick with Nightwish XD Heck, they were the first metal band I ever listened to, and they must've had a pretty hard time with all the changes they had to go true. I'll stick with them all the way, like a true fan :)

Um... Nightwish was NEVER goth metal. They're power/prog.
Nightwish = symphonic power metal
by the way.. the album is still good (for the instrumental.. hehe)
so much for Tarja Turunen her head got big..

I havn't heard the new album yet, but nightwish is my favorite band and the new singer does have a good voice. Shame we had to heard her voice at the expence of tarja's. :*(

Tarja was great in Nightwish, but as solo she is awful, the new singer of Nightwish is'nt that bad but I think there are a lot of better female singers that could replace Tarja.
I heard the single "Bye Bye Beautiful" It's a good song because Marco Sings xD!.

I like the new album when it comes to lyrics and music but the singer is just bringing it all down. I mean she doesn´t have such a rich voice, can´t really sing the higher tones and alltogether..she sux... I might get used to it...but there will never be anything like Once again and that´s what´s scaring me, coz they were one of the last good metal bands...
I like early albums of this excellent power metal band (Once, Wish Master etc.)

Havent heard their new album. Saw their new singer in Kerrang forgot her name
