Rurouni Kenshin
Hmm.. I didn't really get the hype about this anime. I watched the series, not the ovas yet... but I never really got into the story line much, I was hoping for more romance development between kenshin and the girl.. but it wasn't really focused on for the most part, it was too light. I also didn't like how the action was too fast for me to see, so that took out the excitement of the action as well. I think because it was a historical anime, it hurt it even more since I don't have a clue about japanese history, and I watch anime to be entertained, not to have to do outside research to understand it.
You have not watched the OVA'S?
I can not stress enough how awesome it is
The TV series was great, well until the fillers way late in the series anyways
The OVA's are pure gold
Best work of Japanese animation in my opinion, it has it all
Also the beautiful animation is a + and the use of limited dialogs in most part are just brilliant
You don't have to have any knowledge of japanese history to get it
Hands down one of the best anime ever

I did not like the OVAs at all. However, the Rurouni Kenshin anime series was just awesome. While I did not watch season 3(filler), the first two seasons were truly wonderful.
Kenshin's master was the best thing that ever happened to that show now that I remember back. What a serious, mean, sarcastic master he was to Kenshin. He even had the ability to get through to that Fuji Giant one of the Shishio assasins who was controlled by that bold mercenary. "Baka apprentice" that was a cute expression towards his student Kenshin.
The anime is fantastic and the OVAS too cuz they animated all the arcs of the manga, the Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki was so cool, the duel with Shishio was so amazing!, the last arc was so interesting and the end was very sad but well too.

Rurouni Kenshin is the best anime in history. I LOVE this show. You learn so much from this show about many things. Kenshin is SoooooO hot!! He is the best and my favorite character in this show. I just wish they had the Tomoe and Enishi arc like the manga. But other than that this anime is the best in Japanese animation history.
I re-watch it again now. YAY!... (but still stuck at ep.10 season 1...) ^-^"

The story does take turn-offs sonetimes because of the confusing scenes but I still love it.

I remember I used to watch this every day on Toonami. Once it moved to Saturday nights only, I tried to keep up, but I kept forgetting, and then it just seemed like it disappeared from the lineup. I made it through the first two main arcs, and I'm thinking I should find some time to rewatch all of it, except for some of the filler episodes, because it was all in English. Or maybe the manga. That "Freckles" song...what the heck was that?
The thing I remember most is that I found the characters quite fascinating then. Looking back at it after watching many more series, they seem a little bit cliché now. Also, Rurouni Kenshin is the one of the few series that I've read that had decent fanfiction.

I just finished watching this and it was great! The part where Kaoru got drunk was my favorite. Very funny. although I watched the OVA that took place after the anime, not truth and betrayal, the other one. And this one brought me to tears. I am not one to cry at an anime either. I have seen alot of sad ones to like; Now and Then, Here and There, Elfen Lied, Grave of Fireflies,...etc. and not a single tear. But for some reason this one just touched me.
Rurouni Kenshin has to be one of my all time favorite animes. I loved the beginning OVAs, I loved the TV series, and I even thought the ending OVAs were pretty good...sad as hell, but still good material. Kenshin seemed to have a hard life from the very beginning, at least he found happiness (in Kaoru) at the end. That's what it's all about. And the anime was very touching. I guess the characters tend to grow on you after about 96 episodes... I cried too.
Really good anime, it is old and the animation can't be compared to today's pieces, but it wins in all other fields (well maybe the music wasnt the best too)
If you watched it in Japanese (hope you did English was horrible i managed to listen to it for whole...13 seconds) then you just had to love Kenshin's style - i like those types of characters - master fighters/soldiers(guess the anime :) )... with little common life skills (although Kenshin is on higher level than Sagara)
