I know what you mean. I hated how Mello was killed off. I was very upset when L died with Light's smug face was the last thing he saw. Which made me hate Light even more.
But L still lives on with many L fans out there (including me). I've seen a lot of avatars with L in it.
I wish Matt had more of a role than just a guy who helped Mello, who also died without really doing anything besides tech stuff.

I'm very much looking forward to getting the second DVD boxset soon; I placed a pre-order though amazon along with another title and I was notified it was shipped, so it could arrive anytime. Another great complete series to add to my collection. The DVD's are great too, I have the volume 1 boxset, and it has some good bonus features, they have interviews with the english cast on there, which I really like to see, can't wait.

I agree, especially about Matt. I only watched Death Note recently after being familiar (and spoiled, lol) with it for a while, and I always assumed Matt was a prominent character because of the amount of fanart he has. He got less screentime than -insert character who got very little screentime-BlackMokona

Anyway, I didn't really know what to expect when watching this. I always somehow knew I'd like it, but never watched on account of how spoiled I was for most everyone's death. Despite knowing so much about it, I still found it very entertaining and finished it in less than a week. I didn't know Nozomu Sasaki could sound that manly!

Death note is my favourite anime of all time...love all in it..the story was what it took me to see it at first, and the "games" between Raito/Kira with L..really nice ..my favourite character is L probably because hes kinda weird :D..about the movies..well they are ok,nothing that special except some parts..anyway i advise to see them anyway

I very like death note. it's wonderful cartoon.
This is the first subbed anime that I ever watched and it was so fast that I had to pause it to read everything but it is was awsome I have never seen any show like this and it was awsome I think I picked a good show for my first subbed anime to watch.

A really unique, awesome anime. That being said, by around the third episode or so, and all episodes thereafter, I really wanted something horrible to happen to Light. Heh.
Anyway, if I had to give some sort of criticism, it would be the somewhat lackluster character development. Light...Raito, or whatever, was easy enough to understand in that the motivation behind his actions came from his childish notion of justice. The thing that bothered me was that he didn't seem to want anything else beyond the whole 'become a god' thing. I mean he didn't (seriously) care about what happened to his sister, his father or Misa: He was just genuinely obsessed with his one goal. Generally, characters in a reasonably complex anime have multiple factors and motivations influencing their actions.
Ok, that's kind of a lame critique, but yeah, it's all I could think of.

I loved this anime and I loved the Live Action Movie so much more. The story was just insane and the plot twists as well as seeing all the main characters suffer and go through the hardships that they did. I think L and Light could've became friends if they weren't in the predicament that led them to have to fight each other. I also think Light let his ideals take over him too much to the point his ideals became him.
