In my humble opinion, Mello should have been named Marsh-Mello or Mello-Yellow, because he is cool just like the food(s).
Also, I believe that Misa-Misa was very cute and shouldn't have been abused by Light. ^____^

He's still my favourite character even after he died.
Death Note is one of the best anime to manga transitions i've ever seen. Even some of the camera angles are the same. The only thing changed was the ending (slightly) but it was all the same in the end. I don't understand people who say that one is better than the other because they're both the same and both are awesome. The story, the characters, the music and especially the voice acting is just amazing. The only thing people might not like is the lack of action but it's simply outweighed by all the other things I mentioned.

Certainly one of the best anime I have ever seen, in some parts i was completely frozen ... although the quality gradually decreased, but still those 12-15 parts were G>R>E>A>T

I watched this in a marathon watch and enjoyed it so much that I kept thinking about the storyline for days. It was and excellent concept and brilliantly scripted.
I was really sad when L died, because it seemed that Kira would win, but Near and Mello came into the story as well and it felt kind of like that they were able to avenge L.

I've just seen the anime, and I was quite surprised to find something so, let's say, "fresh". I also enjoyed the first part with "L" more than the following, especially because I think that "L" is a great and deep character. In my eyes, the 2nd part was too constructed and based too much on chance. It was much harder to follow the reasoning of Light, and Near seemed to me a quite hollow.
In all, I liked it very much (the first part), the story, the characters, and the design. It was a new style, and not just that "mainstream-anime-for-Americans/Europeans".
I can recommend it to everyone!

like the part where anime and manga have a
little twist from each other. I read some series
that manga and anime that has totally the same
story lines, and sometime I didn't like that too much.
Death Notes is one of the few series in which I like
both manga and anime, I am kind a picky person so
there are many series that I don't like either anime or manga.
But that's now the case for Death Note, I think it's got
brilliant plot for both manga and anime!

One of the crown jewels of anime, hands down. Every character fits in just right and it ends as it should. And to avoid a high level spoiler, episode 25 is the best worst episode of DN.
It was just so well done, and yet ... so .. so heartwrenching. ='(

I can't blame on how they end the anime or why they made L died and chose Near to win instead of L.
Because the manga's plot is actually like that too. And as for the ending, they end it like that too in the manga wasn't it? Who else can you blame on?
About Near's appearance, i agree with someone's opinion that he and his folks are made only to cover the true ending of good defeats evil. I personally think it's not necessary, really. It only made Death Note looks uhh..cheap.
Though i agree that the quality of the anime decreased past episode 25, i think DN still an anime worth watch in your spare times..or at least something like that.

I have reading polish scanlation, but it was released sparsely, one/two chapters by month! However scanlation time was pretty short, one of the polish manga publishers, "JPF" have bought rights to DN, they announced they publish it per half a year, one month later the news about anime comes ^^

Now I'm purchase volumes in my indigenous language :) and I'm watching Death Note once again.
