Terrible anime. They started out good, and it was on par with the manga, then decided to go off and make their own storyline which sucked horribly. Cut your losses short and read the manga, because the manga was really good, but the anime itself sucked all hell.

Another amazing anime that made its own way to my personal top of favorite series. As most people here said already, this is one of the greatest series from the last years. Even though the plot is not original but adapted from a manga series, I think BONES did quite a glorious work.
The characters are all charismatic in one way, makes you like them for real. And you better grab yourself some tissues, because when people die here you will cry buckets. And contrary to some rather popular animes, here each character has his own way of seeing how the world revolves. Very distinct people appear through this series, and each of them has a strong personality. I personally love Edward - really deeply built - and Roy - also was brilliant. Both are really important in the plot and the way they interact with other characters is amazing.
The plot itself is something totally new (I've never seen something like this). Arakawa-san is way too creative for her own good. The way homunculus are born, history from the story line itself, automail... Even though it got quite screwed on the anime version, I kind of like it. They didn't ruined it way too much as everyone else says. I also loved the movie (I think they did quite well actually...).
The soundtrack surprises me in much ways. Classic music adaptations and nice calm touching tracks, Michiru-san did a truly beautiful job. I swear, this anime wouldn't be what it is if it weren't for its soundtrack. Who doesn't listen to Bratja these days? That song is purely awesome. Usually they're really - really - depressing songs and they fit the video so damn well.
The seiyuus also helped tons - they were always super in character... It kind of locked them into those characters. Paku Romi will always be Edward - always.
The animation quality was also splendid. From the very start to the last episode, BONES improved their animation and made it so that you would cry tears of joy. Super good in action sequences, the movements came out really smoothly.
Maybe you won't notice half of these things (even though the soundtrack, it is impossible not to...) but all of this together make of Fullmetal Alchemist what in fact it is.
I think that everyone should go ahead and watch this series (even if you already did it! XD). It's such an amazing story, it's impossible not to like it at the very least.

A great series no doubt about it. Great premise, great characters, excellent plot. I think it's a good example of an anime that starts off great and the viewer is in for a ride that they're not sure what the outcome will be.
Nothing is too over done, like the way they take the mick out of Ed and his height. Also it's a series with heart.

FMA is a great anime, it keeps you into it until the very end. I especially enjoyed it until the end. While the end is satisfying, it is definitely not up to the caliber of the rest of the series. I think they should have waited and continued the anime possibly. The ending doesn't leave really a lot of loose ends, but it isn't really satisfying like it should be, especially considering it is a great anime series.

Well i never read the manga so i don't know how the manga series differs from the anime. However i really liked the anime series, it's so sad and interesting especially the ending. The ending at first didn't make sense to me but because it kind of just cut off. Then I discovered there was a movie after the anime series that finished up the where the anime left off. After that i felt a little bit more complete but it ended kinda of cut off again. I think that it should of continued to show how their life was after the series ended.
This series intrigues me. I only saw one episode of it on Adult Swim a year or two ago, and I liked it. Do they make any DVD box sets of FMA?
Can't compare with manga because i haven't read the last.
But on its own this anime is one of the best i've ever seen. Can't but mention the great music and good graphic of it.

I watched the anime series a while back.
It's cool with the deep plot and awesome actions even though some parts of it are really sad. I am going to rewatch it and then get a taste of the movie. ^^

You obviously didn't read my previous post, because this series was terrible. Also a deep plot that was easily predictable and completely out of whack, especially towards that later part in the series is not really that entertaining. I saw a deep plot in the manga start to get followed and then ruined by the later stages of the anime when they tried to break off their own path and finish the story themselves. One series that I wish did not waste my time like it did.

I recently watched, like, all of the anime and the movie in three days. Good grief, how amazing. The, in my opinion, horrible ending aside (don't get me wrong, it was sad, but the whole going to
) were awesome homunculi and I nearly cried when
I'd really love for them to continue it, somehow. Despite the awesomeness of most of it, I felt that a few things deserved further exploration (Roy and Hawkeye's relationship, for example; not to mention the fact that someone needs to get Ed and Al out of Germany now!). It's the second anime I've ever watched (aside from Devil May Cry; I'm not counting stuff like Pokemon and Digimon as pretty much every child with a TV has seen them) and I'm really glad I saw it; it reminded me of a lot of good times I've had and inspired several parts of me quite a bit. If anyone's curious about this anime or just wants a random show to watch, I'd highly recommend this as it will blow you away. Believe me, I say that about very few things.
Watch it. Now.
SPOILER (click to view)thing sucked), it was incredible. I really love Ed, Al, Winry, Hughes (
SPOILER (click to view)), Roy, and pretty much everyone really. Wrath and Envy (who was pretty hot for an anime character
) were awesome homunculi and I nearly cried when SPOILER (click to view)as he was such an adorable character and Gluttony just needed several Slim Fasts thrown at him. I loved the jokes, especially recurring ones like Hughes showing people his daughter and Armstrong going on and on about his muscles and family. Normally, a lot of sub-characters get very little screen time, but I thoroughly enjoyed the antics of most of them, especially Mustang's subordinates.

I finished the whole 51 episodes but I did not watch the movies, nor did I read the manga...I think the whole series rock despite what other people might think about it.
The emotions that run in this anime are deep - they managed to touch me although I did not really cry. The deaths that occured are realistic...the anime did not try to layer it with sugar to make it suitable for kids...
The plot is nice too. From when Edward and Elric are inexperienced youngsters to where they grow up, mature and become stronger. The anime also had me thinking deeply about how humans use technology now, and will we end up having these artificial humans in this world, seeking revenge against natural humans?
The last episode is sad...It's cruel that despite how much they have done and sacrificed, the Alphonse brothers still had to be separated.
I truly recommend this anime to people who are still wondering whether it's a good watch xD

Well, you can't blame the guys for the divergence of the anime; after all, the manga was far from over when they made the anime, and surely keeping up with the manga would be exhausting, and FMA would be too long for most people to follow. Whether you prefer the anime or manga is up to you; there are two different story lines, each with its own positive and negative points. I know some people who preferred the anime and got tired of waiting for each chapter of the manga to come out.
