Attempt two. 
This time with a different subject. I was looking for something a bit lighter. I loved the vector from Khairkhan and I tried to keep as close to the character as I could. Right now I`m just looking for some constructive crit on the overall piece. The text is just a place holder right now, I`m trying to find a decent quote that fits Sakura`s personality, I was just testing the over all colour and effect of the text.

the colour choice is ok but i cannot say the same for the background picture. sakura looks like she is pasted onto the marble wall it looks pretty impossible for her to actually wave her staf. in other words.. the bg has almost no depth...
you might want to add some colour to the featers or at least a shadow as it looks painted on to the wall...
colour scheme and text is suitable...

I took your advice and I edited to add shadows to give a bit of a separation. I think there are a few more things I could tidy up, but it's hitting 2 am here, so I'll take another look in the morning :D Any crits to see what I might have missed would be a great help ^_^

I've been tweaking this for a few hours now. I brightened Sakura, adjusted the shadows slightly, and added the foliage in the lower left corner. I have a few questions on general placement, I'm mainly concerned with how the foliage works in the overall image or if it takes up too much room. Also if the text is out of place or if I should just forget text entirely.
If anything else is out of place let me know. I'm about ready to submit the piece and I want to make sure it's up to snuff. :D

I would say this wallpaper is a little bit boring, the BG color has the same color with the scan, you have to make a BG which has color that contrast with the scan, that way the scan can stand out better

Thanks Phill! I took your advice and I have two options as of now. I would like to keep the colour scheme light and fun, I don't want to go too bright or poppy so I'm staying in the pastel range but I did a stippling effect on the marble surface and brought out a few more colours with it.
I'm walking into unknown territory with what I'm doing right now, and from here I'm really not sure where to go. At this point should I put this in the Session Zero gallery Or is there anything that *should* be done before I even consider that?

The image of Sakura is great, but even with the different color edits I'm just not feelin' the background. With the foliage added it seems she should be more in a landscape rather than just against a marble wall. You may consider playing with filters on the current bg or trying some different ones all together cause right now everything just doesn't seem to flow together. Also, I like the feathers, but they seem a little large in scale. You may consider sizing them down just a tad.

there, the option 1 is much better, at least you have concentration point in the wallpaper now, however, you still have quite a long way to complete the wall, the rest is up to you to decide, follow your instinct ^^ have fun making walls
