As an animation, Bakemonogatari has a simple, clean art style. But the guest illustrations for the series are anything but simple! So, it's great to see that °Tens took on a more complex illustration and made it his own with vector gradients so fine at points it more resembles painting that vectoring. Do have a look at this beautiful wallpaper!

Very nice figures everyone ( []-[])9 emoticon

I don't have many myself, only a few of the small figurines that come randomly inside a box. However, I do plan on changing that relatively soon. The nendoroid series caught my attention, namely the exclusive Comptiq versions of Konata and Kagami. The two run extremely high on ebay, fetching between $70-100 USD per figure. I saw Kagami slip by a few times for around $65 USD, much to my dismay that I wasn't able to get a bid in overall. While I want both, or atleast one, I think I'll wait behind the brush to grab luck by the tail and get them for a decent price.

Update: To start things off on a small expansion in my stuff, I placed a pre-order for this figure:

It's a limited Alter release (1/8th Scale) only exclusive through HobbyStock so I had to buy through a proxy, and managed to get it for a good price - just about retail in Japan with USD conversion. The release date is in September, unfortunately. I'm still after the Lucky Star Comptiq Nendoroids, though I'll probably have to opt for just one instead of both since the pre-order put a bit of a dent in my budget (x_x) emoticon

Kagami was right when she said people are weak when they hear the words 'rare', 'exclusive', or 'limited'.

I know. I first saw her on the Tsuki-Board Figure Database then did a little research. Overall, the styling and detail looked amazing but the price put me off...until I saw that she was only a HobbyStock exclusive so I decided to go out on a limb and go for it.

Not only would she look nice but as far as investments go, it's not at all a loss on my part. I can already tell by the time the release is out, ebay export sellers will be charging a lot more than what I had payed. I tend to keep my stuff in pristine condition - even the boxes - so in the event I'd have to sell, I'd be able to get a nice price.

Don't you just hate those dents? LOL. But IMO you're better off just buying Konata because IMO the face of the (regular sized) Kagami Nendoroid looks weird for some reason. I like how she looks for the Nendoroid Petits though.

Yea. The pre-order was an unplanned buy. I was saving all that up for the nendoroids and the first half of the Sketch Cell Books for the Lucky Star series by Kyoto Animation. I scanned the cover of the second book for the AP Galleries. If you look at Miyuki she's holding the first book in her hands. It's proving to be a difficult find, more so than the nendoroids.

I actually like the Kagami one, though Konata does look better. Out of all three sets, the Comptiq ones look the best for both characters.

I'm sure at least one person around here has one or both and is smiling quite evilly at my envy.

Update: I placed a pre-order for this figure - considered one of the most awaited for releases this summer - and got it for a good price even with shipping. I admit that I'm a sucker for a good deal.

It's another Alter release (1/8th Scale) but due out this August. Even though its noted as being 1/8th, Alter stated that it's actually "scaleless" due to the dress and how she was overall designed, seemingly 'floating' in air. I didn't recognize the series or the character's name, though I saw some scans pop up recently in the AP Scan Gallery.

She's a nice figure. The guitar pretty much sold it. And, again, it shouldn't be a loss on my part even if it's a regular production model. As opposed to other figures, it's more active with the flowing dress and guitar and all the detailing...and would undoubtedly look nice in any collection. An easy sell if I ever needed to.

That puts my PVC (pre-order) count at two.

On another note, as if trying to take advantage of my buyer weakness at the moment I came across the Konata and Kagami Nendoroid Comptiq Versions, being sold as a set, in auctions. I'm on the fence on whether or not to go for it once it passes a certain dollar. While I want the figures, I've got sticker shock from all the purchases I've made this month - the two figures, a couple of DVD and book releases, and a new IPod. Guess I'll just have to put in more hours at work to make it up.

I'm very tempted to buy this one:

Alter 1/8th Scale of Rei Ayanami (Rebuild of Evangelion Version). I'm holding myself back, self-control. There's other stuff I'm aiming to get and I've put enough dents into that budget this past few days.

Wow haven't seen this Rei figure before. It does look good (actually looks like Rei compared to the other figures of her, if you know what I mean).
Does anyone know about Key's game Little Busters? I'm currently saving up to buy figures of characters from that game.

I'm more so a hoarder in that I keep most of everything that I own feeling that I'll need it sometime down the line.

Wow, I don’t think I would ever buy a large figure from an anime I have never seen before. I mean it is my love for the character that makes me want to collect three dimensional representations of them in the first place.

For me it's the figure that compels me to purchase, regardless of whether or not I'm familiar with the series or character. If the craftsmanship is well-done and the character cute then I'd mark it up on my wishlist. It's only a plus if the character is from a series I know, much like how the Comptiqs are to me right now (9+_+) emoticon

Yea, she's a beauty. Everything about the figure is perfectly Rei. However, I'm not really fond of the lying-down pose for figures. The only good view is by looking down necessitating that the figure be placed on the lower levels of a display case or a low-lying shelf. Even if you were to place her on the top of a table or other surface, it creates a "dead-space" in the horizon that is made even more apparent when among standing figures.

However, her pose is perfect if you place her one your bedside table. Everytime you crawl into bed it would look like Rei is lying beside you. Just make sure you don't accidently smash her when trying to turn off your alarm especially if your the type to hand smash that snooze button User posted image

You mean like these ones? User posted image Nope. Never heard of them. LOL. The anime shopping website benippon.com is so cool (IMO) because they freely give you the IMG Code for their figures so you can post them on forum boards; first time I saw that before (I’m a newb, lol). Never bought anything from them though; I just like to browse through their pre-order section to look at all the pics of the new stuff.

I was wondering where you were getting these images lol. Ya, these are the Little Busters! characters (btw the game is great). I'm thinking about getting some of the 1/8 scale ones but too expensive lol

Is this old news for everyone? I just found this out today but they started reservations for Shana nendroid in Japan. And Solid Works now has Shana II series for the DX collections.

Hmmm… I’m not too crazy about the Solid Works collections by Toy Works because I have the Solid Works trading figures for Yuki Nagato (witch) and the Mikuru (maid) and to tell you the truth the quality isn’t too good when you look at it up close. The paint is kind of bland and there are a lot of bumps and roughness to the surface. But far away they get the job done. LOL. But this could just be an anomaly to the TMOHS batch.

Ya I know what you mean. My friend has some of those but they aren't too hot. It is only like 300-500yen in Japan so I guess you get what you pay for. For the same amount I say nendroid puchi is way worth the money.

As if trying to fully take advantage of my weakness to 'rare', 'limited editions', and 'exclusive' all at the same time, Alter and HobbyStock revealed an alternate version to my first Pre-Order at this Summer's Wonder Festival 2008.

An Alter Production available only through HobbyStock: Tsuzuri - WF2008s Version limited to 1,000 pieces

Compared to the Original release:

While I much like the Original version better since blue is more my color, I can't help but want the WF08s release due to the fact that it's exclusive and limited.

I won't cancel my Pre-Order though or try and get the WF08s version if I come across it (I can't be too certain about the latter though - that would depend on the price and my level of self-restraint at that moment).

Still...

Anyways, the DC site has some awesome coverage of WF08s available. Since my interest in figures sparked a couple of weeks ago I've been doing a bit of research.

I'm interested in several of the up-coming Alter releases, especially Haruhi. I'm really wanting to Pre-Order this one but holding myself back. I could cancel my Churam order but...nah...

Some of the other Haruhi figures are nice as well:
Captain Yuki - EP11 Uniform
Haruhi Beach (Cast-offable)
Haruhi - Lucky Star EP20 Soda Commercial Ad Version

Unfortunately there wasn't any sneak previews on the Kallen and Shirley (Code Geass) figures that were being advertised. They only provided screenshots from the series as to what to expect. I might fall prey to those but we'll see.

One thing is for sure, I won't let passion get in the way of finances as it has for so many that I've seen. Figure collecting is very costly, and while I also see them as investments I'd rather keep money in my pocket and have somewhat vacant shelves. I'll just need to vent everything on this thread to lessen...well, the pain of want.

However, I - am - on the hunt for the Comptiq Konata and/or Kagami...which I have been going on for just about every post. Adding to that list, I'm also looking for the hugely popular Fate Testarossa by Alter. I haven't seen the anime but the quality and amazing pose of the figure just gets me.

When I did go over the Original version again I felt better since it looked much nicer overall. Now my only qualms are just about the release date - 2mos. I'm more or less a patient person (>_<)9 emoticon "I want it now!"

As far as Haruhi goes, Kyoto decided to make an entirely new season for the series. Basically, it won't be a direct continuation of the first. The image of Haruhi with long hair:

Read more... (click to view)

is actually of her when she was in Junior High. It's a take on "Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody" from The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya when Kyon goes back in time with Mikuru to help Haruhi. This meeting influences her to apply to North High hence being able to meet Kyon - again - and form the SOS Brigade. I'll spare the intracicies of the explanation but that story should be included in the new season. I can see why people would hold their funds for potential new-season figure releases.

I don’t buy video games, dvds, or books (or booze and drugs, lol), so I can spend all my extra money on anime toys. LOL.

DVDs make up the bulk of my collection. I have some manga, magazines, and a couple of light novels.

They had Kagami spot on from that episode but changed up Konata from a fox. I would have liked to see Tsukasa and Miyuki versions as well.

I'd really like to see a Kallen and/or C.C nendoroid as well. Make it a limited released and I'm all for it.

Speaking of nendoroids again. I'm rather liking the Yoko (Gurren Lagann) version.

I would get that one if it came out.

The Saber Lion isn't bad either.

Coverage at DC.

I don't think I'm going to go for Konata unless I find one for a too-good-to-be-true price. With concerns about fake reproductions as well I doubt I'll get Konata. Either way I'm happy with Kagami. Now I'm just waiting for Alter's Churam and Tsuzuri.

Aside Alter's Fate Testarossa that will most likely be it for my figures. With just these three I've already torn through the maximum budget I set aside. It may not be as extravagant as other collections but I'm satisfied with just a few. I guess that's one reason why I gravitate so much to just rarities, exclusives, and limited items.
