I haven't really been into all that many relationships to answer it for myself (being a guy), but I do have many friends who are just so uncontrollable in their pursuit of women even though they already have their respective girlfriends.

The lamest excuse I got from one of them is this, verbatim: "because I have 'it' man, and I've got to use 'it' every chance I get."
Totally sexist right? But he does have a point being that this is a paternal society and that using 'it' would be a rudimentary form of expressing superiority like in the animal kingdom. But having such an excuse only makes one more an animal than a person; to be motivated by primal instincts despite the fact that we as a species have evolved to think farther than that. And yes, this friend of mine isn't the most philosophical of the bunch.

From yet another friend is this answer: "I shouldn't be constrained into showing romantic affection to one partner only. We have two genetic parents right? And a lot of people have 3 or more siblings. Why can't this kind of love (romantic) be expressed to different persons as well if not for it being socially looked down upon." however, in not so many words. In actual words, all he said was "I love them both".
I'm actually inclined to believing this answer, which does have some validity to it if it weren't used as an excuse. Moreover, this doesn't make the statement sexist only that society generally turns a blind eye to the cheating male.

Your thoughts on either of the two examples/explanations if not include a 3rd.

I disagree with you. Girls normally are faithful to their partners, and usually it's the male who cheat on their female partners, not the other way round.

1. My elder sister now has a boyfriend, who had a girlfriend before he managed to win my sister over. This is what we call "insurance", that is, if he did not get my sister, he would still have that girl as his girlfriend.

2. You know polygamy right? It's only allowed for males, not females. Why is that so?

3. I believe that there are more female prostitutes than male gigolos. This is because guys do not care about turning their backs on their partners just to satisfy their "need" whereas girls are better at self-control in this matter.

Lol... i agree with the above posts too somewhat.. the answer: for very similar reasons to why girls would cheat.. but in all fairness.. i'd have to say guys cheat as much as girls do.. the observation that males cheat more than females is probably because we seem to get caught more often.. we're too careless =/

i don't think you are in the league to decide for every woman what they are, as far as I know, there are enough women who have more than 3 BFs at any one time, I know mine did flirt even before I dated her, she continued and I didn't really mind until she started giving tickets to a guilt free sensation trip.

So fidelity isn't all what its cut out to be, at least, thats what I'm hearing from the first few posts. That and we seem to have touched a soft spot on Omnidevils side.

But if we are to assume that everyone cheats, then why should we even be bothered by it. Does my friend with the second answer win a prize?

Sorry all but I am the same as him...Almost the whole truth I think...I have had two girl friends and out the two one cheated on me for some other guy...They other girl I broke up with and in 3 days she had another boy firend...lol...So ya, i dont really see alot about a boy cheating in my school...So sorry if it is like that with you...Last year of school anyway so i wont have to deal with all the little school things anymore...

I would also like to thanks you for your lovely post here...It is some what I was trying to say but could not come up with teh words...lol...I am the same it seems, always getting a girl that is nice but then after a good time she just turns into a big you know what...Gl with your love cookie...

I think that this isn't a thing of gender, but personality.
I for myself am very faithful and if there's not something going really wrong in a relationship I would see no point in cheating on my partner.

I don't think its a gender thing, but it could be correlated to gender. Aka if men are generally raised to believe that having more than one gf is OK, more men will do it.

Why do guys cheat? Cheating goes both ways, girls cheat too. ^^ But guys do it more often. Why? Beats me, its some "crazy macho" idea that some morons have.
I've been only in 2 relations and in none of them I thought about cheating. I mean, why whould I do it? I have a wonderful girl at my side, I should be grateful for that and not thinking in ruin it.

I also think it's personality related.

When my relationship is coming to an end I just break up. There's not time nor need to cheat. Some of my friends let it drag on though. Maybe they just don't want to be single while they're looking?

About the girls keeping guys in reserve.. that's so true. Personally I think it's dishonest and cruel to keep someone who's falling for you "as just a friend". It's no small wonder that when a breakup hits they fall back on their "just friends" instead of just being single again.

For some reason or another most people are allergic to the single status o_O
