[Anime Discussion] Romeo x Juliet

I hate GONZO, and how they ruin stuff. They ruined NHK, Bokura no, The Count of Monte Cristo, and now Romeo and Juliet. Is it really that hard to stick to the original story?

It's nice to see all the anime I'm following ep by ep are popular here~ ^__^ I really like Romeo x Juliet, the story is fairly similar to the original story, well...kind of..they have the same characters and town...^^;; but there are significant differences. Let's just hope the ending isn't sad because I'll be very upset...
I LOVEEEEE the opening song...especially when it's by my one of my favourite Korean singers. I knew it was her as soon as I heard the song because of her distinctive voice. The artwork is also very stunning and beautiful, nothing less expected from Gonzo.

I have not watched the carton, but now I am very intrested to download.I have listened the op and ed in english,is very good. That's reason of one for my instresting.
I have just started this series so I don't really know how much it is original story related. But so far I like it (So much I even started to wall it).
I don't mind the character design. i think they are pretty and the quality of the backgrounds, and scenes are also very good imho.
Romeo didn't look too manly so far but I hope it'll change.
Well I should continue watching it... later when I have time to watch more than just one episode ^__^

I still remember trying to get people to vote it in for watching at my anime clubs 24 Hrs of Anime marathon. I LOVE this series. Most everyone else was like "Shakespeare? HELL NO! I hate that guy, and I hate all his plays!" Meanwhile I was like "But...but...they make *fun* of him in this show!" But nothin' doin'.
I think one of my most favorite aspects of this series is that they've keep the basic plot of "Romeo and Juliet" (boy meets girl, vice versa, boy likes girl, vice versa, can't be together), but beyond that and the names, it's an entirely different retelling. I can't remember the last time I saw an anime series be so good at showing so well such an innocent romance between two young people. Sometimes I find myself thinking "I hope they get to be together in the end!" only to immediately remind myself of what I'm watching (to which I always reply "Awww. Dammit."), you know? :)
Another thing I like about the show is the music. Especially the contrast of the opening and ending. They are so completely different, and yet they both capture the nature of the show. I love singing along to the opening. ^_^ The music at the end of episode 7 is probably some of the best scene enhancement I've ever seen done by music. It was just so well placed, both in timing and lyrical match.
Me waiting for a new episode to finish downloading:
Me watching a new (or old) episode:
Me in the aftershock just after an episode:
Me realizing the next episode isn't out yet:

(And anolibb, Romeo isn't supposed to look manly. He's supposed to look young.)

Haha. LittleHobbit13, I kinda know what you mean.
I sometimes wish there was some way everything could work out perfectly, but then again, it wouldn't be so much more interesting if things went as I wanted it to. Although, I'm kinda wondering..if Romeo and Juliet end up dying like in the actual play, who's gonna rule Neo Verona?

Hm... True that GONZO as change the original story here and there. If that's true, isn't Studio Deen is too? Rurouni Kenshin 3rd serie was nothing to do with manga. And Baidai Visual didn't follow the DearS the way the Manga did. Studio Gallop miss few manga events in the anime on Initial D. BONES as well, didn't follow RahXephon manga serie. J.C. Staff's Gunparade March was way different from manga. Or if you go by original story changing, Densha Otoko has more than 5 (that I know of) different story event manga, noval, TV serie was made.
I believe it's not wrong to change it, but how they change the original story and make it little bit unique and interesting by changing it here and there is the point. Just like Romeo x Juliet.
btw... All those studio name is from back of my head, so if I was wrong on the studio names, sorry.

Watched it until episode 16 I think and episode 11-15 are the worst episodes in the series. They're wasting time with all those romantic cliches and predictable storyline. Well, I do hope things will improve in the succeeding episode and the promise of more action (as shown in the OP) will come.
Screenshot for episode 16:

Discussions aside, for some reason I find Hermione attractive.

I agree that eps. 11 - 15 were awful. all of the attention was turned away from the troubles sprouting up all over Neo Verona (was I the only one thinking that there would be an all-out rebellion against the Montague family by now? I always figured Romeo and Juliet would be commanding opposite sides of a battle by this point in the series). With so few episodes left, there are so many questions that need to be answered, specifically about Ophelia and the twin trees and their relation to the world.
I thought RxJ would be another Gankutsuou (probably my #1 choice for a 20+ episode series), but it kinda fizzled out halfway through. I'll follow it til the end, though.
