Thats not funny

We've all done it! heard about something horrible on the news or seen a person in a bad predicament but against all the common decency within you you chuckled, guffawed snickered, or even full blow laughed out loud at something if other people saw it would call you terrible for laughing at. its often some thing simple like a person falling out of a chair or you hear that some one got beat up an the description was hilarious to you at the time. i challenge you to describe a situation you thought was funny but felt guilty for laughing at...or not
I laughed at similar situations too.
A neighbour of mine had an car accident, but he was not that badly hurt. Despite that, he begged the driver not to call the police which request was not fulfilled.
I did not laugh, because he was hit, but that my neighbour stood up and begged the driver.
It is not hilarious though... I still feel guilty about it, although he made a joke of it himself.

Yes, during Black History Month,
I laughed at a departmental stall that hangs under a HUGE SIGN of Black History Appreciation Month
(under the sign of which says "Let us remember our forefathers who fought for our freedom and died for it, let us remember that and make them proud")
under all those words are cotton balls.
(EXTRA LARGE, made from cotton field best quality cottons)
I laughed so hard.
(you have to research a bit to understand this racial joke, it is also where part of the N-word came from)

A few weeks ago a friend of mine was working with her new horse and the horse spooked at something and took off. Her saddle slid and my friend went flying and was nearly trampled. I was stunned for a moment- trying to figure out whether to chase after the horse or make sure my friend was okay. Of course I went to check on the human. When I got over there I started cracking up. She had sand in her mouth and her face was all cut up. She was out of it- and I couldn't stop laughing.
I checked her out and ran after the horse, then went to get help. Even after calling her husband and helping her get cleaned up and moving again- I still kept smiling and giggling like an idiot. I felt horrid but I couldn't stop.

For some reason this post makes me think of the song "Schadenfreude" from Avenue Q. Anyway... to respond to the thread, I laugh when I'm nervous or uncomfortable... so I tend to laugh at really inappropriate times. Like once this random woman (at a church function) came up to me, and showed me a picture of this little baby and she said "This is my granddaughter, isn't she cute?" and before I could say yes she cut me off and was like "She died, then her twin too, and then the dog died." And I was caught so off-guard and she was so bizarre in her interaction that I ended up laughing really awkwardly... which did not go over well at all (obviously).
I can't think of any real life events recently that would make me laugh even though I knew it may be wrong. But it's easy to find videos on them, just go to YouTube and type in something like "fat kid"
Most of the things that i know are wrong have made me laugh. For example, Passion of the Christ with Benny Hill music makes me lose it everytime. Well, anything with Benny Hill makes me laugh really.
It's happened so many times. When it's serious though i can usually stop myself from laughing I'll just look stupid though as I try to stop smiling. I find tough that the shows like you've been framed tend not to make me laugh just go wow how do they find this funny. Half the clips are people getting hurt.
If I get hurt a or friend does I usually just laugh and help them of course.

Once I saw a woman to fall of her bike and instead of helping her to stand up and see if she was ok, I laught really out loud.

My mom once told me a story that was wrong but i had to laugh later on when she wasn't looking because of how outrageous it was. she said just before she was about to cross the street when she was young an elderly lady made a hard turn and flipped over upside down in her van so a young guy immediately rushes to the van gets down and reaches in. My mom says she thought he was trying to help her and as fast as he got down he came back up with the ladies purse in his arms and bolted off as fast as he could. she said it all happened in a matter of 2 minutes.

*face palm* congratulations everyone in this thread is human.
its called a self defense mechanism that allows us to cope with even the most horrible situations. If we couldnt laugh at things like world leaders or horrible situations wed probably spend most of our days cutting our selves and moping around crying..

I take this from a philosophical point of view. I believe that people like to laugh at other people's misfortunes because it's natural to show that, "Hey, look at me, I'm in a better position than you are. You have placed yourself in a position where we can make fun of you because it makes us feel good." The German word that is schadenfreude. It's natural to laugh at someone else's misery. And I think it's also natural for that schadenfreude to come back right at you in the form of karma.
All natural.
All natural.

every one has laughed at an awkward situation weather it involves another persons misfortune or not. It's not always voluntarily not like a premeditated action but as a reaction. also its not always the situation its self but more or less how it is presented to you at the time that can also be a factor. Its often the absurdity of the situation that grants it the rank of laughable. Reap what you sow and karma are one in the same to me, but there are some things that don't cause any equal and opposite reaction because they don't really initially effect anything or any one in any harmful way whatsoever. like a fart joke. you know who that hurts? people who don't like fart jokes are they going to die?... think about it. i think there is a difference if you are laughing at that person to directly harm them then that is an issue, other than that life is sad enough and things are going to be funny weather you want them to be or not. like this
i know this is by far one of the stupidest things some person with too much free time has ever created but when i first saw it i.... laughed... and i assure i WILL laugh at it again *enter dramatic music*...dare to laugh every one dare to laugh
it's one of our very few true freedoms left in this horrible and bleak world!

Yea I certainly have done so. I was in class one day and we were watching a movie. I don't remember the name of the movie, but it was about the Dalai Lama. There was this point where people were talking about the Chinese forcing the children of Tibet to shoot their own parents. Then it showed a kid shooting his parent. I was laughing at that even though it was very serious and very sad. Most of the people in my class just looked at me kind of weird. I told them that I wasn't laughing at that because the movie was so boring and that I had just thought of something my friend said earlier that day. They didn't believe me, lol.
The thing is that I didn't laugh at the kid shooting his parent, I laughed at how the kid started crying "mommy" after that. It was pretty funny.
